3 2 THE 4th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL STRING COMPETITION 2015 OBJECTIVES International Competition is an educational opportunity and is committed to equal rights, equal opportunities. The competition, all programmes and the competition are conducted without regard to race, gender, national origin, height, weight, personal attitude and religion. The competition's goal is to make a serious contribution to music life and encourage young pianists from all Asian countries and the world. To develop and identify potential international music talents.

6 5 THE 4th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL STRING COMPETITION 2015 REPERTOIRES REQUIREMENTS & PERFORMANCE DVD round for both Group A, B and C All participants must prepare ONE FIRST MOVEMENT only of the followings: Pre-selection round ( DVD recording) for Group A ( 24 years and below) and Group B ( 17 years and below ) The length must not exceed 10 minutes for both Group A and B and submit to the organizer by good quality DVD Violin : One movement of Violin Sonata of candidate's choice Viola : One movement of Viola Sonata of candidate's choices Cello : One movement of Cello Sonata of candidate's choice

Bach Two movements from one of the Sonatas and Partitas for Violin solo BWV Part II : Romantic composers A sonata of candidate's choices ( Two movements only ) Final for Violin / group A A Concerto of candidate s choices ( complete) by one of the following composers - Tchaikovsky, - Mendelssohn, - Brahms, - Beethoven, -Stravinsky, - Prokofiev or Glazunov or one of the following Concertos w. Cadenza by W.A. Mozart: Bb major, K.207, -G major, K.216, -D major, K A major, K.219 VIOLA Semifinal for Viola / group A (Max. 20 mins) Part I : J.S. Bach Two contrasting movements from either: Sonatas and Partitas for Violin solo WV or Suites for Cello solo WV Part II: Important 20th century piece for Viola solo or for Viola and Piano, performed in its entirety or one movement, or a fragment. Bach Two movements of Partitas from one of the Sonatas and Partitas for Violin solo BWV Part II : A sonata of candidate's choices ( Two movements only ) Final for Violin/ group B A Concerto of candidate s choices by one of the following composers: o Mendelssohn ( 1 & 2 movements only) or Bruch ( 1 & 2 movements only ) o Or - One of the following Concertos: 2 movements w. Cadenza by W.A. Mozart -G major, K.216, -D major, K.218, -A major, K.219 o It is recommended that urtext editions are used for all works. Bach's work and the concerto have to be performed from memory. VIOLA Semifinal for Viola / group B (Max. 20 mins) Part I : J. S. Bach Two contrasting movements from either: - Sonatas and Partitas for Violin solo WV or - Suites for Cello solo WV Part II : Important 20th century piece for Viola solo or for Viola and Piano, performed in its entirety, or one movement, or a fragment. 10 9 THE 4th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL STRING COMPETITION 2015 Group C (Violin, Viola and Cello) Age Group: 8-12 and under Semi-final round Free choice of repertoires with max. Duration: 8 min. Final round (10-12 minutes) Competitors to play two contrasting pieces of own choice. OR Suggested graded pieces to be chosen from any of the approved examination boards (ABRSM, Trinity College, London College or AMEB). MUST be from the 5th Grade up from group A or B but not to exceed minutes minutes: Only two (2) contrasting works from two (2) of the musical periods listed below. 11 10 THE 4th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL STRING COMPETITION 2015 ENTRY PROCEDURES Each entry must reach D&M Music Studio by 20th August 2015 at 6 pm. for the following documents: Complete application form Photocopy of birth certificate Photocopy of music piece Registration fee Applications received after the date will not be considered Changes of the submitted programme must be notified in writing to the organizer no later than 31 August Amendments submitted after this date will not be considered. Registration fees must be submitted together with each entry. Please make cheque payable to D & M Music Studio. The registration for the respective categories both are 4,000 baht and call for pick up or for oversea participant.he or she must send or transfer USD.135 by Western Union along with DVD to the address as listed below.

12 11 THE 4th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL STRING COMPETITION 2015 CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION 1. The registration fee is not refundable 2. Acceptance of entries will be confirmed within one week by return or telephone call. 3. The organizer will decide the participants order of appearance 4. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify participants who arrive later than the scheduled time assigned to them for the competition 5. The organizer will not be responsible for any on-site practice arrangement 6. Winners concert and prize award ceremony will be scheduled within that week

15 14 THE 4th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL STRING COMPETITION 2015 TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATIONS 1. Contestants accepted to the competition are responsible for their travel arrangements and expenses to and from the competition venue. 2. Contestants will be provided with their own accommodations during the time period of the Competition, Family members can make their own reservations to stay at their expense. 3. Contestants participating in the Competition under the age of 18, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. 4. All contestants should arrive in Bangkok, no later than September 26, Applicants requiring visas should consult the nearest Thai Embassy or Consulate for advice.

16 15 THE 4th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL STRING COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS A. ELIGIBILITY: Group A for 24 years and under Group B for 17 years and under 1. All performances are to be from memory. 2. Submit a DVD not more than 10 minutes. 3. The repeat should not be played 4. The competition is open to all nationalities and those who are residents of Thailand whose ages 24 and under for Group A candidates and whose Ages 17 and under for Group B candidates. 5. All participants are required to be neat and appropriately dressed for the competition 6. All rounds of the competition will be open to the public. 7. Supporting materials: Proof of age (photocopy of birth certificate DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS) For international applicants outside Thailand. 17 16 THE 4th THAILAND INTERNATIONAL STRING COMPETITION 2015 ADJUDICATION The adjudicating panel will judge the performances under the set rules of the competition The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners of all categories will be determined at the Final. Three international academic adjudicators are invited to be the judges for both semifinals and finals.
