1 I, Tiffany Jana, acting benefit director and CEO of TMI Consulting Inc. (hereafter referred to as "the benefit corporation") do hereby affirm that the benefit corporation acted in accordance with its general public benefit purpose. TMI benefitted the public by advocating on behalf of marginalized demographics and by helping its clients cultivate inclusive workplaces. The benefit corporations directors complied with their duty to consider the impact of their decisions on stakeholders. 2 MISSION Inclusion for Innovation is the core of TMI s approach. Inclusion is a value input, and when organizations invest in inclusion, innovation is one of several outputs they can expect. Diversity is WHAT you get when you mix different demographics in one workplace. Inclusion is HOW you make the mix work. Innovation is WHY you want to prioritize the mix through your inclusion strategy. Of course, a diversity and inclusion strategy should be part of a complete corporate social responsibility strategy, but the resulting innovation is what increases the bottom line, reduces turnover, and makes the workplace exciting and inviting for high-performing and high-potential talent. Embedding the Inclusion for Innovation paradigm into all of our projects whether its system-wide leadership development programs, civic engagement facilitations, or social responsibility strategies allows TMI to build and implement high impact programs with long-term effectiveness. We proudly serve clients that include public, private, religious, nonprofit, university, Fortune 500, government, international, and community interests. This is what helps to set TMI apart; we work with everyone who needs help. We are looking to improve the community as a whole and have different rate structures so that each organization is able to afford us. Research indicates that as diversity increases, trust decreases both within and between different ethnic groups. Research also concludes that diversity trumps ability in terms of the capacity to create innovative solutions. TMI helps manage the space between the decrease in trust and an increase in creative diversity. How do we do it? We skillfully leverage inclusion for innovation. We don t hide from the inherent challenges diverse groups experience. We help build trust, facilitate tough conversations, and unlock the creative potential that is often stifled when communication breaks down and people lose sight of their mission, vision, and values.
3 BENEFIT CORPORATION TMI Consulting, Inc. is a leadership and organizational development consulting firm specializing in diversity and innovation strategies. Their highly skilled team of consultants helps organizations and communities become more inclusive and leverage diversity as a strength. The TMI Consulting, Inc. team values social and global responsibility, so we help our clients maximize profits without marginalizing people. TMI Consulting Inc. is a benefit corporation under Virginia law, and is certified as a B Corporation, by the B Lab, a non-profit organization. TMI elected to become a benefit corporation in the fall of So why aren't we a nonprofit? Our status as a for-profit company allows us the flexibility to develop innovative, customized solutions for our clients. With TMI Consulting Inc. we work with clients to develop the training and support they need to reach the next level of socially responsible business growth. We take a systems approach with our inclusion strategies. One-day training is often insufficient to create lasting change, particularly when a culture change strategy is needed. We have flexible rates to accommodate a variety of organizational structures and budgets. In practice, TMI has always behaved similarly to a benefit corporation due to our modus operandi. The process of transforming into, and functioning as a benefit corporation has helped TMI to quantify the public benefits it generates, study its practices in closer detail, and identify areas where TMI can create additional benefits that will help the community as a whole. TMI s benefit corporation designation has been a source of pride for employees and other organizational and community stakeholders. As a benefit corporation, TMI is required to produce and post an annual report publicly, which describes the public benefit it has generated, and how it will continue to provide public benefits in the future. IMPACT ASSESMENT Overview A company s Impact Assessment score is measured on a 200-point scale, with a minimum score of 80 required in order for a company to be eligible for B Lab certification. TMI Consulting Inc. completed its Impact Assessment in the summer of 2012, and received a score of 116. In 2015, we were recertified with an increased B Score of 130. Among companies that completed the Impact Assessment in 2015, the median overall score was 80, and we are proud to set our mark high for next time! The four Impact Assessment categories are the Environment, Governance, Workers/Employees, and Community Involvement. This report will explain how scores within each category are tabulated, its shows TMI s score in each category, and actions TMI is taking to improve its score. Our Impact Assessment scores are as follows (next page):

5 Community Involvement We are highly engaged in our community and committed to positive growth. We create jobs with new projects, and we outsource to suppliers of small and minority-owned businesses. While the continued growth of our business and team are important to us, that is not our primary motivation. We actively volunteer and encourage our team to do so as well. We encourage a 20% growth time policy, urging our employees to take time during their workweek to engage in community wide acts of kindness and growth. We also proactively promote community events and diversity and inclusion events in our community and around the world. We use the TMI website, public speaking, press releases, and social media as our primary communication outlets. We consider TMI a learning organization. We actively engage our board and community stakeholders in seeking new opportunities to contribute to society. While we all agree that we are creating and facilitating positive relationships within the community, in the United States and abroad, we know that there is always room for improvement and opportunity for increased positive impact.
6 Employees One of our core business strategies involves creating inclusive workplaces and communities- making sure every person receives the respect they deserve. We extend our mission to include our employees we practice what we preach. We also fight intolerance and bias to ensure that workplaces can flourish and bring out the best in employees. We incorporate the Benefit Corporation model for successful and fair work environments in our office and with our clients. We have created many internal operating systems that take into account both individuals and teams. Among the many operating systems that we have created for TMI is our Life Well Lived Program, where each employee is encouraged not only to bring one s whole self to work, we also actively incorporate life and work and to create a functional balance. We believe that this type of behavior fosters a sense of wholeness and wellbeing in the workplace that enhances each employees ability to not only do their job more fully, but enables them to be as healthy and happy as possible. As we grow and bring on more employees, we will continue to reassess these operating systems for our team and ensure that they still are still pertinent. We are an inclusive workplace that welcomes the whole person we hire and we ensure that we are fair in all of our hiring processes. We will continue expanding the employee pay scale and benefits structure as our growth allows, ensuring that we are maintaining appropriate compensation and benefits for our whole workforce. Environment As a small consulting firm, we try to maintain green practices and will continue expanding these practices as we grow. We are setting up standards to offset our carbon footprint for all company travel through a third party carbon-offset program. We are currently encouraging employees to seek low carbon or carbon neutral transportation to and from the office, biking, walking, car pooling and riding public transit are all applauded. We use a points system to encourage green transportation and offer incentives including office parties and special events. We are working on an office space that allows for ease of biking by offering better storage and employee showers for a quick clean up upon arrival. All of our office supplies are post consumer recycled, FSC certified, and sometimes second hand where applicable. We make sure to recycle all potentially recyclable items. The environment is very much a concern to us all and we are mindful of it when we are creating programs for our clients and during daily operations. We hope to continue operating as we do now, mindfully focusing on what matters as we grow and maintaining high accountability to B Corps standards. Hopefully our purposeful dedication, stakeholder commitments, and the B Lab standards will continue serving as a guide for strong social and environmental accountability.
7 Governance A company s positive governance impact is measured by the extent to which the company is accountable to stakeholders, and the extent to which it s decision-making is transparent to stakeholders. At TMI we maintain transparency with our internal stakeholders, our board, employees and clients; as well as our external stakeholders. We prioritize transparency so we can operate with a clean conscious and maintain our reputation as the best, most accountable diversity supplier. TMI is very open to sharing its data regarding the company with its shareholders. Shareholders and management regularly communicate regarding corporate decisions, such as growth of the company, financial decisions, and operating procedures. We strive for increased transparency and stakeholder involvement at all levels of our organization. CONCLUSION TMI Consulting, Inc. helps organizations and communities recognize how our differences can make us smarter, more productive, and more fun! TMI Consulting Inc. seeks to facilitate local and global discourse about diversity and inclusion. TMI Consulting Inc.'s strategies ease the tensions inherent in discussions about sensitive topics, the things some folks don't talk about in polite society: Race, politics, sexual-orientation, religion, money, and socioeconomic class.
