1 Worldwide Contats GRINNE Produts Figure 7 Grooved Expansion Joints for Blak, Galvanized, and Stainless Steel Pipe General Desription GRINNE Grooved Expansion Joints are ustomdesigned, thermal movement solutions that utilize the proven design harateristis of GRINNE Flexible s. Expansion joints are designed to be used in both hot and old appliations. When pipe heats up, the expansion joint ontrats to absorb the thermal expansion of the pipe. When pipe ools down, the expansion joint expands to absorb the thermal ontration of the pipe. Grooved Expansion Joints are fatory fabriated and alibrated to the speifi thermal movement onditions of the piping runs. The joints are manufatured from preision mahined grooved nipples with the following GRINNE Flexible s: Figure 70 s are used for sizes 11/ to 1 inh ( to 00). Refer to Tehnial Data Sheet G1. Figure 707 s are used for sizes 1 and inh ( and 0). Refer to Tehnial Data Sheet G10. Figure s are used for optional stainless steel assemblies in sizes 11/ to inh ( to 00). Refer to Tehnial Data Sheet G. The tehnial data sheets for these ouplings provide pressure ratings, temperature ratings, and materials of onstrution. These ouplings provide dependable, highpressure performane in a variety of appliations. Figure 7 Expansion Joint Assemblies an be ordered to aoodate total movement requirements over four different lengths: 1.00 inh (, ) 1. inh (1, ) 1. inh (,1 ) 1.7 inh (, ) Nipples are manufatured from standard wall, ASTM A blak steel pipe. Galvanized or Stainless Steel onstrution is available on request. Anhors and guides diret thermal movement towards the expansion joint. Anhors also prevent expansion joints from expanding to their maximum length due to system pressurization. Guides help to ensure proper axial movement. Pipe must be guided on both sides of the Figure 7 Expansion Joints to ensure optimal performane. Beause angular defletion will redue available axial movement, use of a support radle under the expansion joint is reoended. Expansion Joints must be anhored and guided in aordane with standard industry praties. Anhoring must be apable of aoodating the maximum pipe end load. After installation and pipe supports are in plae retaining braket assembly must be removed. WARNING Never remove any piping omponent nor orret or modify any piping defiienies without first depressurizing and draining the system. Failure to do so may result in serious personal injury, property damage, and/or impaired devie performane. The designer is responsible for selet ing produts suitable for the intended servie and to ensure that pressure ratings and performane data are not exeeded. Verify that material and gasket seletion are ompatible with the speifi appliation. Always read and understand the installation instrutions. The produts desribed herein must be installed and maintained in ompliane with this doument, as well as with the appliable standards of the Approval ageny, in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdition. 7 Page 7 of Installation The GRINNE Figure 7 Expansion Joint Assembly must be installed in aordane with this setion. WARNING Failure to follow these instrutions may result in improper produt installation, joint failure or leakage, serious personal injury, and/or property damage. Step 1. Install the Figure 7 Expansion Joint Assembly on straight pipe runs in the pipe system in aordane with standard oupling installation instrutions (Figure ). Step. Verify that the installed Expansion Joint Assembly moves in the entral diretion of the pipe axis. Step. Anhor the pipe system and install Pipe Guides (Figure ). Step. When using a support radle, ensure that the support radle flanges make ontat only with the tangent to the oupling housings. Ensure these flanges do not interfere with the oupling lobes, nuts, or bolts ( Figure 7). Step. After the pipe system is properly anhored and guided, remove the Retaining Braket Assembly from the Figure 7 Expansion Joint Assembly (Figure ).
