2 COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS Go Further with WGU Indiana Nursing Degree Programs Meet an important need for Indiana by taking your nursing career to the next step by completing your BSN or becoming a nurse educator or nurse administrator. The Future of Nursing Initiative According to the IOM report, the Future of Nursing Initiative has established the following goals: Increase the percentage of BS-prepared RNs to 80%. Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning. Prepare and enable nurses to lead change and advance health. RNs and nurse educators are in high demand Despite recent changes in the economy, the field of nursing continues to be an area of strong job growth. This growth presents significant opportunities for registered nurses who wish to further their careers by completing a bachelor s or master s degree. WGU Indiana makes it possible for current RNs, even those who are working full time, to earn a bachelor s or master s degree online. The university s accredited nursing degree programs include RN to BSN, RN to MSN, BSN to MSN in Nursing Education, and BSN to MSN in Nursing Leadership and Management. All of our degree programs are flexible and competency-based, allowing you to apply prior education and experience to move quickly through subjects you already know and focus on new learning. Superior programs and flexibility WGU Indiana offers CCNE-accredited nursing degree programs that allow you to achieve your career goals and further your education without rearranging your life or compromising your current position. WGU Indiana s unique competency-based academic approach is ideal for the busy, experienced nurse looking to complete a degree as fast and inexpensively as possible. Our approach allows you to leverage your strengths and knowledge you ve already acquired to master the competencies necessary to become a well-rounded clinician, nurse educator, or nurse administrator. Unlike traditional colleges, at WGU Indiana your program isn t based on credit hours or a rigid set of required courses. Instead, if you already have competencies in your field, you ll be able to draw upon this experience as you complete your assessments and finish your degree faster (and for less money). Programs begin the first of every month WGU Indiana offers degrees, not classes. Because we start new students at the beginning of each month, you can decide when to begin your studies. There are no traditional semesters, but rather six month terms. The six months that make up your term are based on when you begin your program

3 NURSING PROGRAMS WGU Indiana is a Fully Accredited University WGU Indiana is an online, competency-based university established by the state of Indiana in partnership with Western Governors University to serve the needs of Indiana citizens. As part of Western Governors University, WGU Indiana offers degree programs that are: Regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). CCNE Accredited WGU Indiana s nursing degree programs are accredited by the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). An autonomous accrediting agency supported by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), CCNE s mission is to ensure the quality and integrity of U.S. baccalaureate and graduate programs that educate nurses. The collaborative partnership between nursing service and nursing education will provide an important addition to the existing nursing programs to prepare individuals at the baccalaureate level. Linda Burnes Bolton CNO, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; Vice Chair RWJF Initiative on the Future of Nursing The Competency-Based Academic Approach Explained WGU Indiana s academic approach is fundamentally competency-based and dedicated to graduating highly competent professionals. Unlike traditional colleges, your progress isn t based upon sitting in a classroom accumulating credit hours or adhering to a rigid schedule. Instead, you earn your degree by demonstrating your skills and knowledge (competence) in specific subject areas. As a student, you will demonstrate your mastery of the necessary competencies by completing challenging assessments. An assessment may be a traditional test, a project, an essay, or another practical demonstration of a required skill. Each assessment measures knowledge and skills in a given area through appropriate means, allowing you to prove you know your stuff in that content area. The bottom line: When you graduate from WGU Indiana, your diploma will mean you ve mastered the critical skills and knowledge the workplace demands. You should expect to work hard to earn your degree, but when you re finished, you can be certain you ve learned what you need to succeed. National Advisory Committee Kathy Apple, CEO, National Council of State Boards of Nursing Geraldine Bednash, Executive Director, American Association of Colleges of Nursing Patricia Benner, Professor and Chair, Carnegie Study on Teaching Nursing Brenda Cleary, Director, Center to Champion Nursing Beverly Malone, CEO, National League for Nursing Margaret McClure, Co-Chair Committee on the Preparation of the Nursing Workforce, American Academy of Nursing NAC Co-Chairs Linda Burnes-Bolton, CNO, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Marilyn Chow, VP, National Patient Services, Kaiser Permanente 3 indiana.wgu.edu/nursing

Those included, all my credits transferring, a self-accelerated program, affordable, CCNE accredited, and that the school showed a true interest in my success. The more I researched WGU, the more I realized this was a program I wanted to be a part of. WGU Indiana s program was a perfect fit for my life. Dawn Hanson Greenfield, IN, B.S. Nursing
