2 My little herbal palace on excellent soil and my own micro-factory Brændesmark Urtegaard is situated on a ridge overlooking the Baltic Sea and Christiansø Island. Plants like hyssop, lavender, great mullein, mint, angelica, calendula and sage are cultivated in the fertile soil of eastern Bornholm. The plants in my oblong flower beds can be harvested several times a year. The land has been certified biodynamic since 1978, and it has been certified organic since 1992, by the Danish Ministry of Food. The garden is surrounded by wild roses, birch, mountain ash and cherry plums, which provide a habitat for abundant birdlife. The medicinal plants are dried immediately after harvesting and their ingredients are extracted in distilled water or oils. Brændesmark Urtegaard has its own laboratory where the beauty products are mixed, stirred and tapped into glass jars and bottles. Small batches are produced; the type of craft practised at apothecaries and beauty clinics up until only a few years ago. Fine wines are characterised by being cultivated, produced and bottled at the same location. Therefore, Brændesmark Urtegaard can rightfully claim to be a herbal chateau. The plants are gathered in baskets and carefully dried in wooden trays, and the ingredients extracted in enamelled pots and clay jars. A stirring machine is the most high-tech aid I use. As my production batches are limited, I do not need nor can I afford expensive advertising campaigns. I often get new customers by word of mouth, i.e. when my products are recommended by other satisfied customers. Personal contact with long-standing users is more valuable than commercial market research. This thoroughly positive response intensifies my commitment and courage to continue converting Nature s bounty into genuine skincare products.

The Moisturizer is used during the day to protect the skin. It attracts and binds moisture, and protects against wind and weather and the drying effects of central heating. The biodynamic herbs are primarily responsible for this cream s effectiveness. The ingredients of lemon balm, hyssop and sage from Brændesmark Urtegaard on Bornholm are extracted in distilled water. This extract preserves the plants potent properties. These very same excellent plants cleanse, astringe, and close the pores of the skin, to provide smooth skin. The plants inhibit weathered and flabby skin. The Moisturizer is also good against skin rashes and irritations and is recommended against acne. The plant extract is mixed into a cream using easily absorbable coconut oils which provide a non-glossy glow. The palm ingredients stearin and glycerin are admixed in just the right balance to protect and preserve the skin s own moisture balance. The cream s color also comes from the extract. The Moisturizer is preserved using the precious resin of the Styrax tree. The fragrance is provided by a mixture of the finest ethereal oils. The cream is economical in use, and contains absolutely no chemical or industrial fillers or alternative substances. Use less than you usually would: your skin only needs a thin layer as a cloak.

The ingredients of lime blossom and oat straw are both extracted in distilled water and mixed with virgin olive oil, grape seed oil, wheat germ oil, lecithin (vitamin A), beeswax and stearin. Moisturizer for Men eur 23 When I first marketed this cream a few years ago, it was still unusual for men to care for their skin. Fortunately, things have changed. Now men realize that their skin needs to be nourished just like any other part of the body. I put together a moisturizing, nutritive cream that is not greasy or shiny. It was conceived as a cloak for the skin after shaving and to counteract the piercingly drying properties of aftershave. It is ideal for all types of skin. The ingredients of these plants are extracted in distilled water and mixed into an ointment with olive oil, thistle oil, linseed oil, castor oil, wheat germ oil, beeswax and lanolin, as well as with Styrax resin and borax (a natural salt), both of which are wound-cleansing agents. 7 Make-Off and Eye Ointment eur 15 Dissolvent, cleansing and softening. This waterless ointment dissolves eye make-up, hence the name. Make-Off is also an eye ointment for the areas of skin around the eyes. If you do not wear make-up, it also splendid for treating dry, red areas around your eyes or unsightly wrinkles. The ingredients of wild roses, angelica and cornflower are extracted in almond oil mixed with castor oil, wheat germ oil and beeswax. This mild cleansing cream can also be used on faces with very sensitive eye areas or by contact-lens wearers. It is dissolvent, cleansing and softening. The roses, which are the best beauty-cream blossom by far, and the light vegetable oils keep the thin, fragile skin around the eyes smooth and supple without clogging the microscopic pores of this delicate skin. Skin Tonic with four medicinal plants eur 14 Cleanses, constricts and restores. Elizabeth Løvegal s Skin Tonic is mild and gentle to all types of skin. It does not dry out skin, but cleanses, astringes, heals and soothes (by balancing the skin s chemistry). Clean your face with a cotton wad containing Skin Tonic. Dab your skin dry with a tissue and enjoy its clean smoothness. The ingredients of calendula, hyssop, yarrow and sage are extracted in soft distilled water. The extract is preserved using the precious resin of the Styrax tree. In addition to keeping the plant extract fresh, it is reputed for producing virgin skin, i.e. fine clear skin. Calendula has this same property, and also cleanses, heals and soothes. It is impossible to overpraise calendula for its wonderful properties. Hyssop heals rashes and eczemas, while yarrow cleanses deep into the skin, is strongly astringent and is good against acne. Sage is anti-bacterial, astringent, and restores cells.

8 Body Oil with calendula eur 16 Beneficial for your whole body. A woman s body needs soft vegetable oils, enriched with medicinal plants and wild herbs which do not clog pores but cleanse them. The ingredients of hyssop, great mullein and calendula from Brændesmark Urtegaard are extracted in olive oil, grape-seed oil and wheat germ oil. Hyssop is reputed for its ability to soothe eczema, while great mullein softens skin cells. Calendula heals the skin. Pour a little oil into your hand and spread it over your body, preferably while it is still damp after bathing. Do not use too much. Instead of cleansing cream, we recommend washing facial skin with a wad of cotton with a little Baby Oil or Body Oil. This will dissolve make-up and the day s grime. Wipe off with a tissue and cleanse with skin tonic or cold water. Elizabeth Løvegal Body Oil does not have a sun protection factor, but protects the skin against the sun all the same. Medicinal Plant Oil eur 20 Heals large areas of skin. The ingredients of elecampane, comfrey, calendula, hyssop, marshmallow and thyme are extracted in olive oil, grape seed oil, peanut oil, thistle oil and linseed oil. The inherent energy of these medicinal plants is extracted in a carefully balanced mixture of oils. It has the soothing properties of the medicinal plant but without the firm texture of an ointment. This makes it easy to spread on the skin. Delicate skin impacted by the wide variety of modern chemicals it encounters will feel soothed by applying a thin layer. The nature of this oil corresponds to the oils used for skincare 2,000 years ago. The Massage Oil is made using the following process: the ingredients of curled mint and lime are extracted in virgin peanut, olive, grape-seed, castor, and lanolin oils, admixed with warming, stimulating ethereal oils. Massage stimulates blood circulation, activates cells, and your awareness intensifies, including your awareness of the body s many sensitive areas, and you experience heightened sensory awareness. Giving one another a massage requires time and trust. Baby Oil eur 16 A joy for baby skin. Massaging children is good for the skin and the soul. The ingredients of calendula and hyssop, which soften, heal, restore and relieve itching, are extracted in olive oil, grape seed oil and wheat germ oil, admixed with a drop of lemon oil and nothing else. Elizabeth Løvegal Baby Oil is suitable for massage or can be used instead of cream. Adding a spoonful to bathwater works miracles. Giving one another a massage requires time and trust.

I chose lime blossom and comfrey for their softness and mint for its muscle-relaxing affect. Wild roses evoke beauty. The medicinal plant ingredients are extracted in a mixture of virgin olive oil, peanut oil easily absorbed by the skin and grape seed oil (rich in vitamin E), and a little castor oil. The fragrance is accentuated by relaxing ethereal oils. Facial Blossom Oil eur 14 Mild, soft and tender. This mild oil is pleasing to facial skin. The blossoms soften the skin. The oil can also be used to cleanse the skin. Drip a few drops on a moist cotton wad. The ingredients of goldenrod, lavender, calendula, sage and wild roses from Brændesmark Urtegaard are extracted in grape seed oil and nothing else.
