Currently we are planning for the 2016 UNK High School Indoor Track and Field Meets meet information is also located on the World Wide Web at Go to our website and then click on this link: for the 2016 meet(s). 4 IMPORTANT DATES Please read this information carefully, for there have been several changes in entry and declaration procedures from past years. Here are the important dates to put on your calendar for 2016 as the event draws near. Remember that due to the size and complexity of the meet, no exceptions can be made for late or incorrect entries or declarations. 5 COACHES INFORMATION TEAM PACKETS Packets can be picked up at the head table located right inside the south doors to Cushing Fieldhouse. Packets will be available one and half hours before competition begins. Only a team coach may pick up and sign for the packet. TEAM ENTRY FEE Thanks to our on-line entry system, teams will only pay for athletes who gain entry to the meet. Team entry fees must be paid before or at the time of packet pick up. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. There is a team cap of $65 per team. Boys and girls squads count as separate teams. (If you have six or less athletes; take the number of athletes X $10) T X $10.00 = Number of athletes accepted Total entry fee ($65 per team cap) NOTE: Scratches made after the declaration deadline still count towards your entry fee total. Three (3) entries per school in all track events. 2. Three (3) entries per school in Shot Put, High Jump, Pole Vault. 3. Two (2) entries per school in Long and Triple Jumps. 4. One (1) relay team per school in each relay event. 5. NSAA regulations govern the number of events at athlete can enter. TEAM CAMP / WARM UP AREA There are limited dressing facilities due to the size of the meet. Schools nearby are asked to dress at home. Space is limited for teams to set up camp. We ll utilize the racquetball courts and Hyper Gym. The bleachers are for paying customers only!!! UNK is not responsible for any lost items. The warm up area is limited in the field house; you may use the hallways or go outside. 5

6 ADMISSION COACH / ATHLETE ADMISSION Athletes, coaches, trainers and support staff will be admitted free through the pass gate. Coaches this is on an honor system. Please don t take advantage of this privilege. PUBLIC ADMISSION Admission into the meet will be allowed only to those people paying at the gate. Admission will be taken directly at the gate. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students K-12. Please pass this information to your fans, especially your athlete s parents. Every year we have problems with fans not prepared to pay for admission to the meet. CONCESSIONS / MERCHANDISE A concession stand will be provided in the Health and Sports Center. Food and drink are allowed only in the wooden bleachers. UNK High School Track and Field Invitational t-shirts will be on sale in the control center next to the south entrance. The t-shirts will be approx. $12.00 each. COACH/ATHLETE ACCESS ON TRACK AND INFIELD In a continued effort to create the safest possible environment during the UNK High School Track and Field Invitational, athletes (not competing in current race or field events) and coaches are aloud in the infield area. WE ASK THAT PARENTS AND FRIENDS TO STAY OUT OF THE INFIELD!! TEAM PARKING All parking rules and fees are administered by the University Parking Department. UNK is NOT on Spring Break on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday and Friday we ask buses to park in Lot 20. On Saturday parking is the lot north of Cushing Fieldhouse next to the football stadium. FAN PARKING All parking rules and fees are administered by the University Parking Department. Fan parking will be located west of Cushing Fieldhouse in Lot 14. ACCESSIBILITY Accessible parking is available to the east and west of the Health and Sports Center in Lots 10 and 14a. Accessible door access is on the east and west sides of the Health and Sports Center building. For further assistance please call (308)

7 AWARDS / SCORING / RESULTS We will score six (6) places. Team trophy to the winner of each class in both genders. The top three (3) individuals in each race and field event and top three (3) relays will receive medals. We ll hand out the medals and announce the team winners following the meet at the head table. Results will be posted outside the south entrance on the weight room windows. Results will be available at the head table when available. Full results will be available at FACILITY INFORMATION CUSHING FIELDHOUSE Located (attached) north of the Health and Sports Center is one of the few indoor track facilities in the state of Nebraska. The track has six lanes (160 meters) around the track and eight straightaway lanes for the sprints and hurdles. Cushing Field house houses one jump pit for the long/triple jump, one pole vault pit and one high jump pit. All surfaces are polyurethane Martin Surface. Please observe the spike length limits of 1/4 PYRAMID spikes only!! The shot put ring is made of wood. Please use soft sole shoes only!! FIELD HOUSE POLICIES & INFORMATION No smoking is allowed inside the building. All alcoholic beverages are also prohibited. Cans, glass, and glass bottles are not allowed in Cushing Field house. Concessions will be available when the gates open to Cushing Field house. Gates open one hour prior to the first competition of each meet. LOCKER FACILITIES We have locker facilities for your athletes. The girl s locker room is next to the pool by the northeast entrance to the building. The boy s locker room is down the hallway toward the Health and Sports Center across from racquetball court A. ATHLETIC TRAINING We ll try to have UNK Athletic Training Department at the meet this year for help with all medical emergencies, etc. An ice chest with ice bags will be available at the site. Teams need to supply their own supplies. LOST AND FOUND Any items lost during the track meet should be reported to the head table by the pole vault pit. Items can be reclaimed by blind identification or other proof of ownership. 7

8 HEATS / ADVANCEMENT / ATTEMPTS PREFERRED LANES, FLIGHTS AND HEATS All positions are selected accordingly to entry marks. All events will follow NSAA rules, including rules regarding false starts. The 200m, 400m dashes will use 5, 6, 4, 3, 2 as the preferred lanes. All other laned events will follow standard preferred lanes 4, 5, 3, 6, 2, 7, 1, 8. FLIGHTS All field events will be flighted in such a way that the top seeded athlete will be placed in the later flights. Athletes in the shot put will make three (3) attempts in the preliminary round. We ll take eight (8) to finals with three (3) more attempts. In the long and triple jump; athletes will take four (4) attempts within their flight, no finals. Meet management reserves the right to modify this policy due to time constraints, etc. ADVANCEMENT FORMULAS In the 55m dash and hurdles; the winner of each heat and next fastest times advance to the finals. RELAY START AND ZONE INFORMATION 4X800 METER begins with a one-turn stagger start. Each runner will run five (5) laps. They will hand off on the west side s yellow exchange zone. 4X400 METER begins with a two-turn stagger start. Each runner will run two and half laps. Exchange zones are yellow on both sides of the track. The number one runner will hand off to the number two runner on the east side (next to the bleachers); the number two runner will hand off to the number three runner on the west side; and the number three runner will hand off to the number four runner on the east side of the track. STARTING BLOCKS Starting blocks will be furnished by UNK. No blocks will be used in the 400m dash. HIP NUMBERS Hip numbers must be worn on the left hip. After the athlete checks in with the clerk of the start; the athlete needs to go to the hip number table to get their number. If an athlete is going to run with their shirt out, please make sure the hip number is visible on the shirt. Bottom line; the hip number needs to be seen for proper picking with our Finishlynx timing system. 8

9 LAPS How Many Laps? Race Laps Race Laps Mile EVENT CHECK IN Athletes must report to the clerk of the start at least 15 minutes before their race. The clerks of the race will verify who is running the race at that time. Please ask your athletes to pay close attention to the order of races to assure proper check in. When we begin the 55m hurdle prelims we ll begin a rolling schedule. Please make sure your athletes are aware that event times could begin earlier than planned. Field event competitors need to check in 30 minutes before the event. If their event follows another field event; they must check in to the judge right after the previous event is over. HIP NUMBERS Hip numbers must be worn on the left hip. After the athlete checks in with the clerk of the start; the athlete needs to go to the hip number table to get their number. If an athlete is going to run with their shirt out, please make sure the hip number is visible on the shirt. Bottom line; the hip number needs to be seen for proper picking with our Finishlynx timing system. RULES All NSAA and NFHSA rules apply for this event. 9

10 TEAM ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS All teams have to enter their athletes via our online entry system. Coaches need to go to their school classification website (each class has a different website).
