2 Task 1: Line and Tone ( 40 minutes ) (15 marks) In the KITCHEN- EVERYDAY objects Recommended materials- 2B and HB pencils rubber a) Select 3 objects from your kitchen, make SURE one of these is a cylindrical object ( such as a mug, bottle or cup) arrange them so there is OVERLAPPING. b) In the box below draw lightly at first to create a line drawing of what you can see. c) Then with your drawing pencil add light and dark tones (shades) that you can see in your arrangement. It would be good if: you have a basic line drawing and attempted to add some shading. (1-4 marks) It would be better if: you have a more detailed line drawing and added a range of light and dark shading (5-8 marks) It would be exceptional if : you have produced an accurate and detailed line drawing with neat and well observed shading (9-12marks) 2 extra marks for OVERLAPPING objects 1 extra mark for including a CYLINDRICAL object.

3 Task 2 PATTERN and COLOUR (40 mins) (15 marks) Robert Indiana (born 1928) is an American artist whose work consists of bold, simple iconic images especially numbers and short words. Indiana often uses complementary colours ( red/ green, orange/ blue, yellow/ purple) and moves one letter or number so that it is angled. He uses a very simple and bold style of lettering which makes his work very easy to identify. a)using the letters and numbers below draw ONE letter or number into each box. They should have some MEANING to you. b) Add colour using Pencil crayons choosing from either i) primary, ii) secondary, iii) or complementary colours (red/green,blue/orange,yellow/purple) It would be good if: you have drawn out at least 3 of your letters/numbers in the boxes using the font provided. (marks 1-4) It would be better if: you have drawn neatly in each of the boxes and added some colour. (5-8) It would be exceptional if: you have added your design in each box and used a specific colour scheme to accurately complete each box. 4 Task 3 Artist Focus- Claes Oldenburg "Flying Pins"(40 mins)(20 marks ) One of the great sculptors of the Pop Art Movement is Claes Oldenburg, who took his inspiration from everyday objects. He would often make very large sculptures for public spaces. Please fill in each of the four sections; "Flying Pins" is a piece of sculpture created for a city called Eindhoven in The South of the Netherlands. Section A - Describing what you can see in this photo. a i) What is the sculpture of? (2 marks) a ii) What are the colours used? (1 mark) a iii) Where do you think it is positioned? 6 Task 4- Keith Haring - Creative design task (40 mins) (12 marks) Recommended materials - a drawing pencil and pencil crayons Keith Haring was an American artist who created his own style of drawing which became his "vocabulary". His style grew out of a love of graffiti and his animals, baby with rays, and dancing people developed with strong black lines around them. a. Look at the images and use these to help you design a mobile phone cover. Come up with a creative design using Keith Haring's figures and animals. Draw it in the template on the next page. b. Colour the image in strong colours with a bold outline. It would be good if: you have filled most of the phone case with a drawn design showing some understanding of Keith Haring s style. Line drawing only. (1-4 marks) It would be better if: you have added a design to the entire phone case showing a good understanding of Keith Haring s style. There has been an attempt to add some colour. (5-8 marks) It would be exceptional if: you have added a design to the entire case, really considering the shape. Album Cover Design (up to 1 hour) (18 marks) Recommended materials - a drawing pencil, pencil crayons and the 'Pop Art' resources on the next page. Many contemporary bands and singers use the 'Pop Art' style as inspiration when creating their album covers. Some examples below!

10 a) In the box on the last page of this booklet create a design for a 'Pop Art' style album cover in pencil. The singer/band/album name can be made up or could be one you already know. It can include patterns, instruments or faces. b) Colour the album design in pencil crayons using a carefully chosen colour scheme that is inspired by Pop Art. It would be good if you have drawn out a simple design and attempted to add colour with contrasting colours. (up to 5 marks) It would be better if you have drawn out a more detailed design with different logos inspired by 'Pop Art'. You also have an eye catching lettering for the name of the album or artist. You have a bold and contrasting scheme that is neatly coloured in (6-11 marks) It would be exceptional if you have also incorporated faces or depth into your design. Your composition is well thought out, inspired by 'Pop Art' and the position and the style of the lettering is considered.
