Better bike routes would encourage me to bike more often, but it doesn't seem accessible at the moment. I live too far from campus to ride my bike. But perhaps you could get people to ride their bikes more by seeing if local businesses would offer discounts on bikes or bike repairs. Improve bike trail system. I think it is safe to say that most residents of Omaha (even non-students) know little to nothing about Omaha public transportation. Making students simply aware of their options would be a great way to encourage students to use Omaha buses. Allow students to ride city buses for free. The University of Nebraska at Lincoln does this. They give bus/shuttle passes to students and it is included in their tuition. Better routes or some way for student to be safer away from cars if they were to bike or walk. Possible set up a free bus pass. Encourage both Douglas and Sarpy counties to invest more money in creating a more user friendly bus system that is more time efficient, and will get me where I would like to go in Omaha in under an hour. (more buses and bus stops). Also, encourage these counties to make the fee to ride the bus very minimal or free for college students (not just UNO, but CU and UNMC as well!) Metro routes too convoluted. I live 3 miles directly north from campus, and the bus takes me to downtown Omaha, and then out Dodge to the campus. The other bus route available is a nice long walk, bus to Crossroads, shuttle to campus, shuttle to south campus, and reverse to get home. More direct metro routes, even with metro transfers, would be appreciated. I've only ridden the bus once due to these issues, and that was when we had major snow last year, and I had a test (or I would have skipped). Somehow get the sidewalks cleared better in the winter- they're often still very icy, treacherous, and snowy, even after they've been "shoveled" pay Metro Area Transit to allow UNO students to ride for free. Post bus schedules/routes at PKI, because to my knowledge that information is not available there. Send an with a link to transportation routes and schedules. Then everyone would have access to this information. Subsidize costs of taking the bus and providing information about the buses to students. I know next to nothing about the bus system in omaha. get us free Mat bus passes! We should have been the first to offer this to our students. UNO is so out of touch with student NEEDS Encourage MAT to improve their routes in West Omaha to the UNO campuses on Dodge and Pacific. Have more bike racks. Make bus fare cheaper or free for UNO students. 8 of 10

9 Encourage MAT to expand the bus routes, buy nicer buses, and have shuttle shelters for all stops. I'm not sure if there is an environmental/health club, but getting publicity for that would be good. Maybe hold some fun club events (with t-shirts and food of course) to get students to realize that there are other, better methods for transportation than the one that they know of. Have a Go Green Week, perhaps! Having a raffle for a new bike. Sell helmets in the student center (with a UNO logo, like the O on the football helmet). Make it free. Not sure how much could help individuals, but could "lobby" city for safe routes marked off and for extending some of the routes. Have a one-day freebie bus ride if you fill out survey. Perhaps providing lockers would help, so that students wouldn't need to carry everything. Discounted prices on bus tickets would be helpful. Making sure there are showers available for those who bike. Also, maybe start a biking or walking "buddy system" where you have someone to ride or walk with would increase safety. Get a deal with Metro for reduced or free buses, and encourage them to fix their busing schedules and system to where it doesn't take an hour to get from North Omaha to UNO when a car takes 15 minutes. provide some sort of locker system where the student could store books or belongings on campus. A cubicle locker such as the ones in the Bookstore would be sufficient. The campus could rent them out and keep them in the MBSC or Admin building somewhere... Help sustain safe and convenient pedestrian paths through campus even when construction is taking place. For example, current construction at Roskens Hall means pedestrians have to walk in the street, which is dangerous both for pedestrians and motorists. It would have been helpful to either cordon off a part of the street as pedestrian only during the period of construction and/or keep the sidewalk in front of Roskens Hall open. If people knew the routes and they were posted clearly at stops it would be bettter. It took me forever to even find out where the shuttle to the mall left from. If it was possible to make Metro Area Transit free for UNO students I think that you would find a lot of students and professors parking there vehicles and taking public transportation to get to campus. There is a lot of people who would prefer that so they wouldn't have to deal with the high traffic during times of the day on campus and surrounding areas. The free bus-ride to campus and back would be a lot of help. Make student rates for the bus cheaper or have a pass available for a monthly price cheaper to students. 9 of 10

10 More info on bus routes, etc. I've been on the bus website to map routes for international students.. and it's not friendly. Changing the name of the transit system and adding new buses doesn't cut it. Become affiliated with the MAT bus. Offer discounts. I already have the unlimited 30 day pass and am incredibly disappointed at uno that there is no discount Nothing they can do, I would walk, bike or take the bus if I actually lived close enough to UNO. As far as I'm concerned, student government is doing a great job with the transportation system. I just wish I could use it more often Although I have used public transportation in other cities I have never used Omaha's bus system and am not sure where to get on and off. Information packets explaining the routes and times ed to each student (to not waste paper) seems like it would be an easy and efficient way to pass on this knowledge. Also allowing UNO students to take the bus for free such as Metro does would help sway me into taking the bus much more often. keep the bus route areas better supplied on campus. Provide CHEAP!! bike rentals so that those who could not afford their own bike could ride one to and from school if they lived off campus. Say $10 a semester. Reccomend some sort of basket for the bike that will hold a large heavy backpack safely away from the wheels and off the back. The free bus rides to UNO sounds like a great idea. Maybe Student government could give out some free bike locks too. Promote a biking lifestyle. Find ways to better acclimate the schools environment for biking. Find sponsorships for bikes for UNO students. Make bus ride free for UNO students Encourage Omaha to develop a much more extensive mass transit system that allows use of mass transit in a more time effective manner. It would take me an hour on the bus to do my current fifteen minute commute. A more extensive system would relieve congestion on the roads, reduce congestion and save gas (energy). It would encourage people to use mass transit rather than their personal cars to go to and from work. 10 of 10
