It can be built to enhance any garden, commercial or industrial setting, reflecting any lifestyle as it merges the indoors with the outside. To match, Brooks Bros offers quality decking materials and products for most applications. Deck boards are available from stock (for delivery within 48 hours) in a number of popular timber species, several standard profiles and a variety of dimensions. Boards can also be bespoke machined to order. We also supply matching components, like posts and spindles, to complete the project. Within each group there are many different species of wood; some suitable for decking, some not. Softwood tends to be less costly and easier to work with where the rich attractive colours of some hardwoods add greatly to their appeal. The key factor in selecting wood for use out-of-doors is durability. Some species have a natural ability to resist decay completely; others have varying degrees of natural durability and may require specialised pressure treatment. Properly constructed and maintained, hardwood and pressure treated softwood decks and walkways offer similar performance levels and, under normal use, can be expected to have a life of around 25 years. 5 Introducing Kebony Kebony is a revolutionary external timber product ideal for cladding, decking, flooring and yacht applications. It is a sustainable product made more durable, stable and aesthetically appealing through the infusion of biowaste (a process called Kebonization, that permanently modifies the cell wall of the timber). Kebony profiled products offer good resistance to weather, wear and decay with low life-cycle costs, have a very low carbon footprint and are manufactured by one of the world s top 100 Cleantech Companies. PEFC Certified deck maintenance Clear wax coatings will improve the deck s water repellence and are suitable for both hardwoods and softwoods. These coatings help to prevent water absorption that causes wood to expand, contract and crack. To maintain the deck s performance re-apply this coating every other year - preferably at the end of summer. The application of a stain (whether in a natural wood shade or a fashion colour) is an effective way of maintaining the appearance of the deck. Always use a product made for exterior use on a timber-decked surface. Depending on location, amount of sun received and general wear and tear a decorative stain should be refreshed periodically. It s important to keep deck surfaces clean: brush regularly with a stiff bristle brush to remove dirt, algae and dead leaves and give a more thorough cleaning (using a power spray or proprietary cleaner) to lift any stubborn stains once a year - preferably in the spring.
