CEILING SYSTEMS [ Between us, ideas become reality. ] Clean Room Systems
Introducing Clean Room Ceiling Systems From Armstrong A particle of dust can be a serious problem in an area that requires complete environmental control. Armstrong Clean Room Systems provide protection, performance and peace of mind. Armstrong Clean Room systems are suitable for Class 100 applications and have been independently tested to ensure exacting performance standards*. All Armstrong Clean Room HumiGuard Plus ceilings are nonperforated and feature no sag performance. A 15-year warranty is standard when used with Armstrong Clean Room grid. More Ceiling Options - Two, nonperforated Armstrong ceiling product options. Material, texture, noise-reducing performance and budget options for maximum design flexibility. More Grid Options - Hot dipped galvanized or co-extruded aluminum for installation, performance and budget flexibility. Proven Performance - Meets ISO Standard 14644/Federal Specification 209E for clean room systems Warranty - Limited 15-year warranty when installed as a total system. See warranty for details. Quick Ship Service - System components are inventoried and available to meet stringent jobsite schedule requirements. * Testing of the ceiling system was conducted in an environmental chamber following the methods established in Federal Standard 209E Airborne Particulate Cleanliness Classes in Clean Rooms and Clean Zones.
Whatever your performance requirements...arm Clean Room Suspension System Options Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel Minimum G40 hot dipped galvanized coating; inhibits red rusting better than electrogalvanized or painted systems Wider face (1-1/2") accommodates HEPA filters, lay-in panels and gasketing Heavy-duty load classification as per ASTM C 635 Facilitates the use of field-applied foam gasketing per clean room design specification Standard aluminum cap for greater corrosion resistance and cleanability An economic alternative to aluminum systems Main beam and cross tees rotary-stitched during manufacture by a patented method for additional torsional strength and extra stability during installation Co-extruded Aluminum Aluminum construction for maximum corrosion resistance and non-magnetic environments Lightly textured PVC face, to better match VL Clean Room panels Unique, factory applied gasket for better seal between panel and grid PVC hold down clip to ensure a good seal Staked on main beam splice for easy connections and module control Integral hook cross tee end detail for easy connections and module control Installation Guidelines Suspension System Installation With the existence of positive pressure in the clean room and the need to prevent contamination from entering the room from the plenum, it is necessary to seal the ceiling with either Mylar tape or closed cell foam gasketing to achieve a Class 100 clean room. In all clean room class applications, both gasketing and hold down clips are necessary; the only varying factor is the percent of HEPA filters in the ceiling. Hot Dipped Galvanized Clean Room Cross Tees Item #XL7947, XL7927 Retention Clip Item #414 NOTE: When using these products, specify light fixtures designed to install with 1-1/2" face suspension systems to allow for fixture maintenance. Hot Dipped Galvanized Clean Room Grid: Norton s closed cell gasketing (Type V764,1/8" thick x 1/4" wide) is recommended; 3M s #850 Mylar Tape and #4718 Closed Cell Gasket are acceptable. Armstrong Retention Clips (#414) are required to ensure a good seal. A retention clip on each side of a ceiling 2' x 2' panel will maintain constant pressure on the gasketing; for a 2'x 4' panel, 2 retention clips at third points on each 4' cross tee. Square Edge Lay-in Panel Install Closed Cell Foam Gasketing Clean Room Main Beam Item #XL7907
strong has the best ceiling system solution! Installation Guidelines (continued) Co-extruded Aluminum Clean Room Grid: Factory-applied Norton closed cell gasketing (Type V764) Armstrong Hold Down Clips (CHDC) are required to ensure a good seal; install one on each side of 2'x 2' panel and two clips at third points on each 4' cross tee Co-extruded Aluminum Clean Room(CHDC) Clean Room Hold Down Clip Main Beam Clean Room Cross Tee Ceiling Installation Because Armstrong Clean Room products are not edge-sealed, it is important to install them carefully. Improper handling could result in particle contamination. After the ceiling installation, the seal provided by the gasketing or the MYLAR tape should prevent any possible contamination from the edges from entering the clean room. Armstrong Clean Room VL and Clean Room MYLAR are sealed with a back coat that is applied during manufacturing. Cleanup Process Following Installation After installation, the ceiling should be vacuumed and cleaned using a nonshedding cloth, such as Tyvek from DuPont, with deionized water and a mild surfactant. Square Edge Lay-in Panel It s easy to select the Armstrong Clean Room Ceiling System that s right for you Armstrong Clean Room Systems Design Guide % HEPA Armstrong Armstrong Class Filters Clean Room Ceiling Grid Support Clean Room Grid Grid Sealant % Clean Room MYLAR Wire Hangers 1-1/2" Aluminum or Mylar Tape or Closed Clean Room VL Hot Dipped Galvanized Cell Gasketing with 1,000 60% Clean Room MYLAR Wire Hangers 1-1/2" Aluminum or Mylar Tape or Clean Room VL Hot Dipped Galvanized Closed Cell Gasketing 10, % Clean Room MYLAR Wire Hangers 1-1/2" Aluminum or Mylar Tape or Clean Room VL Hot Dipped Galvanized Closed Cell Gasketing 100,000 10% or Clean Room MYLAR Wire Hangers 1-1/2" Aluminum or Mylar Tape or less Clean Room VL Hot Dipped Galvanized Closed Cell Gasketing NOTE: HEPA filters should be independently supported in seismic areas. The filter should exert enough pressure to compress the gasket, yet not so much pressure as to exceed the system s load carrying ability. Armstrong ceiling panel options should be specified as square-edge lay-in only.
Environmental Requirements for Clean Room Applications A clean room, or white room, is any enclosed space that requires environmental control over atmospheric contamination, temperature, humidity and pressure. In high-tech applications such as computer rooms, a speck of dirt not visible to the naked eye can cause a great deal of trouble. In fact, it could be powerful enough to throw off the entire system. Just like computer rooms, hospitals, aerospace and automotive industries, and other high-tech manufacturing facilities maintain exacting standards for cleanliness of the room and must be free of materials that release microscopic airborne particles. All clean room applications are governed by: ISO Standard 14644/Federal Specification 209E defines the number and size of particles in a clean room environment. The specification is defined as a total system and not based on individual clean room components. High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters that remove particles from the air. Class Definition Clean rooms are defined by class and the higher the class, the lower the level of cleanliness. Standards for airborne particles, measured in microns, and use of HEPA filters will vary depending on the class of the clean room. The cleanliness level is controlled by laminar flow, constantly flowing the air along a parallel path, usually vertical from the ceiling to the floor. For example, in Class 100 clean rooms, with vertical laminar flow, the entire ceiling should be installed with HEPA filters. Armstrong Clean Room System Solutions Armstrong clean room ceiling and suspension systems, suitable for clean rooms up to Class 100 as defined by ISO Standard 14644/Federal Specification 209E, are designed for budget and installation flexibility. Clean Room Ceiling Options Class 100 Applications - all Armstrong clean room ceilings are suitable for Class 100 clean room environments; Armstrong panels eliminate the need to use costly, customized metal lay-in panel options for perimeter and sprinkler panels HumiGuard Plus - Clean Room Mylar and Clean Room VL clean room ceilings are humidityresistant and feature BioBlock paint on back of panel to prevent growth of mold and mildew CLEAN ROOM APPLICATIONS CLASS 100 CLASS 1,000 CLASS 10,000 CLASS 100,000 Disc Drive Manufacturing Electronic Industry Semiconductor Industry Clean Rooms/Hospitals Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Aerospace/Automotive Computer Rooms Food Processing Facilities Product Clean Room Ceilings Substrate Material Texture NRC Acoustics AC CAC Fire Rating Humidity Resistance Light Reflectance Grid Face 1-1/2 Fire Guard Clean Room MYLAR * (Feild Units) Mineral Fiber Smooth Class A 0.80 Humidity (Sag) Resistance 4 drops = HumiGuard Max 3 drops = HumiGuard Plus Clean Room VL (Nonperforated) Mineral Fiber Smooth High Light Reflectance * DuPont trademark
