3 Summer in the city Accustomed to spend his summer holidays in the countryside, at his grandparents and in other interesting places, Floppy was sad to hear that, this summer, he will spend most of his vacation in the town he lives in, as his grandparents had to go for a longer stay at a spa and thermal resort. Floppy already saw himself sitting all day indoors, because most of his friends he used to go in the park, for a football, were not in town for the summer. But his mother started cheering him up: Don t be sad, Floppy! Here, there s a swimming pool pass, so you can take a dip every day, just as you like it! Hooray! That s great. Thanks, mom! And that s not all, says Floppy s father. Do you know Michael? Well, his brother is the tennis coach. He is about to start training a beginners group. I signed you up I imagined it would be a pleasant surprise. It is, dad thank you! And even if all your friends are away, there are a lot of other kids spending their summer in the town. You will get new friends. And then you will have new partners for football, basketball, handball or any other sports you might want, his mother added. The man tells him that the puppy was born with a limp and that problem would stay with him for the rest of his life. 6

7 That s the puppy I want, said the boy, with joy in his voice. If that s your wish, I am giving it to you for free! Upset, the child said: I don t want it for free, his price is the same as every other puppy. I will give you whatever I have now and each month I will play 1 leu, until I d pay the full price! Are you sure you want this particular puppy? He will never be able to play, jump, or run like all the others! The boy bent over, lifted his trousers end a little bit and showed the shopman the metal bracelet holding his croocked leg and feet. I cannot run myself. That s why I know this puppy needs someone to understand him!
