1 Woodlands Primary RE Scheme of Work The following RE Scheme of work has been developed using the Discovery RE Scheme of work and the Cheshire Scheme of work. The Scheme of work compliments the Cheshire Agreed Syllabus Foundation Stage 1 & 2: Special People Special objects/places Easter Friendship Important people/god What makes people special? What is? What is special to Christians? What is Easter? How can we show friendship?, Why is God important to Christians?,

2 Year 1 Does God want Christians to look after the world? Does the world belong to God? Should people take care of the world? What gift would I have given to Jesus if He had been born in my town and not in Bethlehem? What can I learn from stories from religious traditions? Are symbols better than words at expressing beliefs? Was it always easy for Jesus to show friendship? What can I learn from religious traditions? Should people follow religious leaders and teachings? why did the crowds welcome Jesus like a king or celebrity on Palm Sunday? Should people follow religious leaders and teachings? Are symbols better than words at expressing religious beliefs? Where do Christians worship? What can you find in a church? How do Christians show they belong to the Christian faith? How do Christians welcome babies into the Church family? The Creation Story The Story Jesus as a friend Easter- Palm Sunday The Church as a place of worship Baptism/Belonging To re-tell the Christian Creation story and explore how Christians behave towards nature and the environment To reflect on the story and decide what gifts would be meaningful for Jesus To identify when it is easy and difficult to show friendship and explore when Jesus may have found it difficult. To know that Jesus is special to Christians and how His welcome on Palm Sunday shows this. To recognise the Church as a place of worship for Christians. To identify some of the features of a church that makes it a special place of worship for some Christians. How belonging is expressed and made explicit. How Christian people show that they belong. That some Christian people baptize babies as a sign of welcoming them into the church.

What can I learn from stories from religious traditions? Should people follow religious leaders and teachings? The Bible ;; Jesus as a gift from God Passover Easter Resurrection Covenant What did Jesus teach? Religions: Judaism Religions: Judaism To know the Bible is a special book & it is made up of many different types of books. To know that Christians read Bible stories and try to live by its teachings To reflect on the story and the reasons for Jesus birth. celebrating Passover and keeping Kashrut (food laws) help Jews show God they value their special relationship with Him. To re-tell the Easter story and understand what Jesus resurrection means for Christians. To understand the special relationship between Jews and God and the promises they make to each other. To find out what the true meaning of is to Christians and compare this with what means to us To retell Bible stories when miracles have happened and question whether Jesus really did perform miracles. To recall key events in the Easter story and understand why Jesus crucifixion symbolises hope for Christians. To understand why Muslims visit the mosque and to explore whether this gives them a sense of belonging. To understand what happens during Hajj and to explore the importance of this to Muslims.

How do Muslims welcome children into Islam? Is forgiveness always possible? Should religious people be sad when someone dies? How important is sharing to Sikhs? Do people need to go to church to show they are Christians? Can the arts help communicate religious beliefs? The Amrit Ceremony and the Khalsa Features of Muslim life Easter - forgiveness Sharing and Community Community life Prayer and worship Religions: Sikhism Religions: Sikhism To understand the reasons why a Sikh may choose to join the Khalsa. To understand the symbolism in the story and think about what the different parts mean to Christians today. To know about the birth customs in Muslim families. Do religious people lead better lives? Does participating in worship help people to feel closer to God or their faith community? Prayer and Worship Hindu beliefs Easter - forgiveness Community and belonging Beliefs and Practices Religions: Hinduism Religions: Hinduism Religions: Judaism Hindus show their commitment to God and to evaluate if there is a best way. To evaluate different accounts of the story and understand that stories can be true in different ways. To understand the Hindu belief that there is one God with many different aspects. To question whether God intended Jesus to be crucified or whether Jesus crucifixion was the consequence of events during Holy Week. How significant is it that Mary was Jesus mother? Is anything ever eternal? Should religious people be sad when someone dies? How well do funeral and mourning rituals tell you about what a religion believes and about what happens after death? Is Christianity still a strong religion 2000 years after Jesus was on Earth? Does participating in worship help people to feel closer to God or their faith community? Why do Muslims call Muhammad (pbuh) the messenger of God? What are the 5 Pillars of Islam and how do they influence a Muslims actions? Explain why the Shahadah or any of the other pillars are important to Muslims. Can I explain how it influences their actions? To analyse the Christian belief in the Virgin Birth and to assess the significance of this to Christians.
