1 DroboApps Installation and Examples Drobo FS and DroboPro FS 1. Enable DroboApps within Drobo Dashboard -> Advanced Controls -> Tools -> Settings -> Admin tab. Check the Enable DrobApps box. 2. Reboot your FS array and the share, DroboApps, will be created. 3. Mount the DroboApps share: In the Drobo Dashboard main page, check the box for the DroboApps volume in the Mount column. The DroboApps volume should now show up in your operating system. Note that the DroboApps volume does not show up when you click the Shares tab. 1

2 4. Download the DroboApps you would like to install from the list below. Note where you save the file(s). 5. Navigate to the DroboApps files on your computer. 6. Unzip the downloaded DroboApps: In Windows, use Explorer to open the folder and then extract (unpack) all files to the destination of your choice. (The files normally extract to the same folder as the zipped file.) On a Mac, double-click the zipped file and Finder will show the contents (typically the DroboAppName.README and the DroboAppName.tgz file). Copy the.tgz file from each DroboApp to the DroboApp share on your FS array 7. Restart your Drobo FS or DroboPro FS to install. The.tgz file will unpack (into several files and directories) and install. Once installed, these applications will start up automatically each time the FS array is restarted or powered on. The following examples include installing the Apache and DroboApps Admin Utilities. The Admin Utility requires Apache, so please install it before installing the Admin Utility. Apache is a server application that allows you to log into the Admin Utility in a web browser, using the IP address of the FS array. See the README file for more information. I. Apache Installation: 1. Download and unzip the Apache DroboApp (apache.zip). Note that in many DroboApps, the Readme file contains information that applies to the DroboApp after it is installed, such as how to access it, how to login, etc. 5. Wait for the Apache DroboApp to install into the DroboApps volume. 6. Navigate to the DroboApps volume on your FS array and verify that there is an apache folder and that it contains several files and folders. II. Admin Utility Installation: 1. Download and unzip the Admin Utility DroboApp (droboadmin.zip). 5. Wait for the Admin Utility DroboApp to install into the DroboApps volume. 6. Navigate to the DroboApps volume on your FS array and verify that there is a droboadmin folder and that it contains several files and folders. 7. Check the IP address of your FS array: Drobo Dashboard -> Advanced Controls -> Tools -> Settings -> Network. 8. Open a web browser and go to: (substitute the IP address of your FS array for the portion of the URL.) 9. Enter root for both the default username and password. 2

3 Note: After you have successfully installed the Admin Utility, you can use the utility to directly install other DroboApps. Simply click Install DroboApps from the main page of the utility. III. Firefly Installation and Use: Firefly serves digital music residing on the FS array to the Roku Soundbridge and itunes. You can install this by 1) using the Admin Utility described above (This eliminates having to restart your FS array to install the application.); or 2) use the following procedure: 1. Download and unzip the Firefly DroboApp (firefly.zip). 5. Wait for the Firefly DroboApp to install into the DroboApps volume. 6. Navigate to the DroboApps volume on your FS array and verify that there is a firefly folder and that it contains several files and folders. 7. Check the IP address of your FS array: Drobo Dashboard -> Advanced Controls -> Tools -> Settings -> Network. 8. Open a web browser and go to: (substitute the IP address of your FS array for the portion of the URL.) 9. Enter mt-daapd for both the default username and password. 10. Click on one of the tabs to configure, check status, etc. of the Firefly DroboApp. 3

4 Setting up Firefly: After you have successfully installed Firefly, please do the following: 1. Open the Firefly main page in your browser, if it is not already open. 2. Click the config tab. 3. Change the Server Name field to the IP address of your FS array. 4. Restart your FS array: Advanced Controls -> Tools -> Restart. 5. After your FS array restarts, you should still be logged in as the Administrator and the shares you created should automatically re-mount. 6. Drag and drop music files you want to share to the DroboApps/firefly/media folder. 7. Open itunes. 8. In the Shared section on the left, you should see the IP address of your FS array. 4

5 9. Select the music you want to play and use itunes as you normally would. IV. Dropbear Installation: Dropbear is a small SSH 2 server and client. SSH is included with your OS, but is not started by default. This DroboApp starts the SSH server and client. You can install this by 1) using the Admin Utility described above (This eliminates having to restart your FS array to install the application.); or 2) use the following procedure: 1. Download and unzip the Dropbear DroboApp (dropbear.zip). 5. Wait for the Dropbear DroboApp to install into the DroboApps volume. 6. Navigate to the DroboApps volume on your FS array and verify that there is a dropbear folder and that it contains several files and folders. The SSH server and client (in the OS) are now started and console access is allowed. WARNING: Use DroboApps at your own risk. A. DroboApps are the sole responsibility of their original developer.
