1 SPORTS INFORMATION GUIDE Amendments: April 2016, 2.0 Competition Format, 4.3 Grade Definitions. Competition Dates competition for World Masters Games 2017 offers A Grade (Premier), B Grade (Competitive), C Grade (Recreational) and Open (65+, divisions) for men and women. The provisional competition schedule for WMG2017 is as follows: 21/4 Fri 22/4 Sat 23/4 Sun 24/4 Mon 25/4 Tue /4 Wed 27/4 Thu 28/4 Fri 29/4 Sat 30/4 Sun 1630 The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for the evening of Friday 21 April 2017 with the Closing Ceremony on the evening of Sunday 30 April Tuesday 25 April 2017 is Anzac Day a national day of remembrance in New Zealand and Australia, which commemorates servicemen and women who have served and died, and honours those that have returned. In line with the respect and tradition afforded to this national day, any sport competition on Anzac Day will not commence until the afternoon. All dates and times are subject to change, pending final entries received. A detailed schedule for each age category and division will be developed throughout 2016 and early 2017 based on final entries received. Competition Format The divisions and age categories for at WMG2017 are as follows: Sport Competition Division Age Categories A Grade - Premier B Grade - Competitive C Grade - Recreational Open Men s: 30+, , , Women s: 30+, , , Men s: 30+, , , Women s: 30+, , , Men s: 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+ Women s: 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+ Men s: 65+, 70+, 75+ Women s: 65+, 70+, 75+

2 For each team to be confirmed, a minimum of seven athletes need to be registered, with a maximum of 12 athletes per team. The age of the youngest registered team member determines which age category the team will compete in and for the Games, your age is determined as at 31 December The cut-off date for new teams (subject to available competition capacity) is 31 January New athletes joining existing teams is available up to and including 31 March 2017, however a late fee may apply. Venue Details WMG2017 competition is confirmed to take place across three competition venues, depending on the division or age category: North Shore Events Centre (4 courts) A Grade Premier / B Grade - Competitive Argus Place, Glenfield, Auckland 0627; located just over 10km north of central Auckland. AUT University, North Shore Campus (2 courts) B Grade Competitive / Open Grade Akoranga Drive, Northcote, Auckland 0627; located just over 9km north of central Auckland. Bruce Pulman Park (6 courts) C Grade Recreational Walters Road, Takanini, Auckland 2112; located just over 30km south of central Auckland. Limited courts at each venues may be available for each team to hire for practice prior to the start of competition. More information on the process for booking venues for training will be provided closer to Games time. Competition Details 4.1 Competition standards and rules The WMG2017 event will be conducted in line with the competition rules of the International Federation (FIBA), New Zealand or as otherwise specified in this document. 3 4.2 Hours of Competition It is anticipated that competition will start at 0900hrs and continue to approximately hrs each day (with the exception of ANZAC day). Competition will finish early on the day of the Closing Ceremony. 4.3 Grade Definitions The following grade definitions have been determined for the WMG2017 competition, and are to be used as guidelines to determine which grade teams should enter: A Grade - Premier: This grade is for teams consisting of players who compete or have competed at regional or national level. B Grade - Competitive: This grade is for teams consisting of players who compete in a high standard of domestic level basketball, such as A Grade in their local competition. C Grade - Recreational: This grade is for teams consisting of players who participate in noncompetitive and/or lower grade leagues and for social and casual players. Open Grade (65+, 70+, 75+): There will only be one grade for the competition in each of these identified age categories. The WMG2017 Organising Committee reserves the right to move teams between grades. 4.4 Format for play The following format for play has been identified for the WMG2017 competition: a) There will be a round robin tournament, with finals and playoff matches to determine final placings. Where sufficient entries are received, teams will be split into pools for preliminary rounds. b) Based on proposed competition format, each team can expect to play a minimum of five games and if finishing in the top four of their pool, will then play playoffs for medals. c) Final draw format will be determined once number of teams are confirmed. In order to produce a viable draw some grades and ages will be combined at the discretion of the WMG2017 Organising Committee. WMG2017 Sports Information Guide, Version 1.1, April 2016Plain 3 of 5

4 4.5 Timing rules The following timing rules have been identified for the WMG2017 competition: a) A Grade games will be 10 minute quarters played with full stop clock. 24 seconds shot clocks will be used. There will be two time outs per team permitted in the first half and three time outs in the second half. In the event of a draw at the end of regulation time, a five minute overtime period will be played. Overtime periods will continue until a winner is determined. The clock will stop for all whistles in the overtime period. One time out per team is permitted in each overtime period. b) B Grade, C Grade and Open Grade games will play 10 minute quarters with running clock. However the clock will stop for time outs, substitutions, fouls and all whistles in the last 3 minutes. 24 seconds shot clock will not be used however where teams are using stalling tactics the referees may implement a 10 seconds countdown. There will be two time outs per team per half. In the event of a draw at the end of regulation time, a two minute overtime period will be played. Overtime periods will continue until a winner is determined. The clock will stop for all whistles in the overtime period. One time out per team is permitted in each overtime period. c) Pre-Game / Half Time / Quarter time Breaks. A 5 minute (minimum) warm-up period will be allowed prior to the advertised commencement time of each game. A 5 minute half time break will be permitted and 2 minute breaks between each quarter. d) Statistics will not be collected as part of WMG2017. Therefore, no live statistics will be available. 5 4.6 Technical Meeting One representative from each team is expected to attend the Technical Meeting prior to the commencement of the event. Further information will be confirmed closer to the start of the competition. 4.7 Technical delegate FIBA has endorsed the appointment of Ken Coulson (NZL) to act in the role of Technical Delegate for the WMG2017 competition. The Technical Delegate will oversee the implementation of all sport specific rules and requirements at the Games. Equipment Game balls will be provided. The men s competition will use a Molten size seven (7) ball and the women s competition will use a Molten size six (6) ball. Teams are advised to bring their own balls for training. Teams are advised to bring their own water bottles and strapping tape Uniforms All teams are required to wear appropriate uniforms, with legal numbers being All athletes on the same team must wear team uniforms of the same bold colour. The size of the numbers shall be at least 2cms wide; on the back 20cm high and on the front 10cm high. All teams should have two sets of competition uniforms (dark and light). The first team listed on the schedule will be designated as the home team and will wear the light coloured uniforms. The second team listed on the schedule will be designated the visiting team and will wear the dark uniforms. However, if the two teams involved agree, they may interchange the colours of their uniform.
