21 Blood Bank Automation Systems Manual Capture Work Station Due to it's high level of sensitivity and specificity, Immucor Gamma has been using Capture solid phase technology as an alternative to tube testing and column agglutination for over 20 years. Capture solid phase can be performed both manually on the Capture Work Station or automated on the NEO and/ or Echo. Capture can be used with erythrocytes (Capture-R) and platelets (Capture- P). For example, Capture-R is performed by adding plasma or serum from a patient or donor and Capture LISS to a microtitre well that has been coated with red cell antigens. During the incubation phase, if antibodies are present in the plasma or serum, they will adhere to the well. Next, a brief wash step is performed followed by the addition of Capture- R indicator cells and then a brief centrifugation step. Capture is read by looking for a button of packed red cells at the bottom of the well (negative) to a full coating of red cells across the well (positive).
