2 Program overview York University's Bridging Program for Internationally Educated Professionals: Is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration (MCI) mid 2012 Prepares IEPs to transition into professional positions in Canada Helps IEPs to obtain relevant professional designations 2

5 Program structure: English Mandatory oral and written English assessment for everyone Recommended: CLBA 7/8; LINC 6/7; IELTS 6+ High level academic and professional English language training (not ESL) Training provided for 6-12 hours/week for 12 weeks prior to starting coursework Evenings 7-10pm + some Saturdays Once candidates successfully pass English training, they will then be admitted to York in the IEP Bridging Program. 5

6 Program structure: Phase I 6 Phase I: Foundation Skills Professional Communication in the Canadian Context Business: Fundamentals of Canadian Business Law and Ethics and Canadian Business Culture and Management Skills; or, IT: Management Skills for IT Professionals in Canada and Object-Oriented Programming Employment workshops: resumes, interviews, social networking, job search Once candidates successfully pass Phase I of the program, they can move on to Phase II.

14 Who qualifies for the program? 14 Permanent resident, landed immigrant, or Canadian citizen Ontario resident A recognized (non-canadian) Bachelor s degree in a related business or IT discipline Related professional work experience Good command of the English language

15 Program length & cost 15 8 to 16 months Full-time (3+ courses) or part-time (1 or 2 courses) Evenings: 4-7pm or 7-10pm English training: no charge Foundation skills: no charge Specialized skills funded at 50% (candidates pay approx $350/course) up to 10 courses Other expenses: $80 application fee, textbooks, transportation, living expenses

16 How to apply 1. Complete the York application and pay the $80 application fee; 2. Complete the IEP application; 3. Submit all supporting documents (transcripts, resume, statement, etc.); 4. Register in English placement testing. DEADLINE for a May start date: February 25 16
