3 0. Introduction: context and aims of the study 3
4 ! 0.1 General context! ISL located in Le Mont-sur-Lausanne since 2005! Today, around 600 students and 110 staff members! Tomorrow, after ISL planned extension, around 800 students and 150 staff members! Today, serious traffic problems caused by parents dropping-off and picking-up their kids by car! Reduction of traffic problems = necessary condition for ISL development projects! An effective traffic and mobility management concept is needed. It must be based on:! planning and organizing measures of the road network and of the drop-off/pick-up area! a School Travel Plan, regrouping a set of information, communication and trip management measures to be implemented by ISL in order to change staff and students behaviours, and reduce traffic demand 4
5 ! 0.2 Context of the study (1)! ISL has implemented a School bus service, consisting of six bus lines! The diagnosis of the School Travel Plan has shown only a minority of students (25% in 2009) are school bus users...!...but the potential of users is far higher!! Reasons for the low percentage of bus users must be understood and measures capable of increasing the number of school bus users must be proposed 5
6 ! 0.2 Context of the study (2) SCHOOL TRAVEL PLAN STUDY ISL School Travel Plan SCHOOL BUS Public transport Carpooling Bicycle and walking Parking management Other strategies and measures Texte SCHOOL BUS OPTIMIZATION STUDY School bus service: an essential axis of the School Travel Plan, requiring a specific optimization study 6
