3 PRINCESS CHRISTINA CONCOURS Music is for All of Us! The Princess Christina Concours has brought music into the lives of young people for over forty years now. It does so in many ways and reaches children of all ages: from small children who have just started their musical education, to talented young musicians who make their way to the concert hall. The Princess Christina Concours organizes competitions (classical music, jazz, composition) for pupils in secondary schools and young students at conservatories. For pupils in primary schools, it has a competition on the internet. Prize winners receive support from the organization. Each season, the Princess Christina Concours organizes several hundreds of concerts to offer prize winners the chance to gain stage experience. The winners also help to introduce classical music to a new generation of children. To do this, they participate in children s concerts in the Classic Express, the world s very first mobile concert hall. The Classic Express pulls up to primary schools, institutions for handicapped children and festivals. The Princess Christina Concours also publishes the magazine Kies je instrument (Choose your Instrument). The magazine appears annually and is aimed at all eight-year-olds. It is distributed at primary schools. Next to that, all visitors to the Classic Express can take the magazine home. By publishing Kies je instrument, the Princess Christina Concours strives to stimulate young children to learn to play a musical instrument. The competition is organized on a yearly basis for all young instrumentalists, singers and ensembles, from 12 to 19 years old. The Princess Christina Concours has grown to be an organization with six competitions throughout the Netherlands, with 500 participants yearly and over 60 jury members. Every two years the Princess Christina Concours also organizes a Composition Competition and a Jazz Competition for young people. Laureates of the Princess Christina Concours give concerts all over the Netherlands in order to acquire experience in performing for audiences. In the past few years laureates gave also concerts in France, the United Kingdom, Venezuela, Japan, Switzerland, Greece, Denmark, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, the United States, Canada and many other countries, often in collaboration with Embassies or Consulates of the kingdom of the Netherlands.
4 Laurens de Man. From 2000 to 2010 Laurens de Man (1993) attended piano lessons with Anneke Siebers at the music school of his native town, s- Hertogenbosch, and with professor Joop Albracht at the Fontys Conservatorium in Tilburg. Starting in 2005, he also took organ lessons. At present, Laurens studies piano with professor David Kuyken and organ with professor Jacques van Oortmeerssen at the Conservatory in Amsterdam. In 2009 he won 1 st prize at the national finals of the Princess Christina Concourse. At present he performs regularly as a pianist and organist in concerts in the Netherlands and abroad, often together with other winners of the Princess Christina Concours. Annemiek de Bruin (1993) started playing the clarinet at the age of seven. At 13 she was admitted at the Young Talent Class of the Rotterdam Conservatory. As of September 2010, she studies with Harmen de Boer at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. She participated in numerous master classes led by (for example) Martin Fröst, James Campbell, Charles Neidich and Walter Boeykens. She also took chamber music lessons from Lars Wouters van den Oudenweijer, Stefan Metz, Marieke Schneeman and members of The Rubens Quartet. With the Rubens Quartet she played Mozart s famous Clarinet Quintet. Annemiek has also been part of various orchestras such as the Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands and the orchestra of the Free University of Amsterdam. Annemiek performed as a soloist with the 'Brabants Orchestra' (2011) and the 'Zeeuws Orchestra (2012). She has won various prizes with the Princess Christina Concours and other competitions. Besides playing the clarinet, Annemiek enjoys composing. She was awarded the Composition prize of the Royal Conservatoire. In 2009 he won the competition of the Dutch Mandolin Association and was invited to tour with the Dutch National Youth Orchestra.
