Mock air raid and blackout - listen for the siren and run for the shelter! Walls have ears, but have you been listening? Can you answer all the questions in our artefacts quiz? Your chance to enlist as a soldier - try on real army uniforms! Rationing demonstration - imagine, only 5 sweets a week! Take a seat in our 1940s front room - how does your house compare with how people lived during World War II? Feely Box activity - Guess the identity of World War II objects by touch with the help of clues. Be like a real museum curator and wear special gloves to handle actual objects from the Second World War. Use your powers of deduction to identify the mystery World War II artefacts! Make your own gas mask and miniature Anderson shelter to take home. Make sure you have your Identity Card with you or you might be arrested as a spy! Imagine being taken away from your home to live with strangers - our role play will let you share the experiences of a 1940s evacuee. A full day to link in with your KS2 Britain Since 1930s topic per child - adults go free! We can accommodate up to 60 children per day. World War II Teacher's Pack, Historical information, classroom activities and worksheets to support your teaching of the topic back at school. Can be used to follow up your visit or stand alone. Teacher s packs and activity packs are available from our gift shop, which also stocks a variety of World War II posters and postcards, plus a large range of replica items and books.

2 From Coal Face to Fire Place Tour Experience the history of Coal Mining on the former site of the old Hednesford Valley Pit. Discover how coal affected industrial and domestic life in a full day of hands-on activities with our Victorian miner and miner's wife. A presentation of a working mine illustrates and explains the complex history of mining and show what life was like underground, while working models demonstrate mining techniques. Be like a real museum curator and wear special gloves to handle actual mining artefacts and equipment. Our Victorian miner's wife will invite you into her cottage to help with the laundry and domestic chores - without the aid of modern appliances! She will show you how to wash clothes using old fashioned equipment and let you taste the miner's breakfast before you go! Become a miner and experience the dangers of shifting coal in our simulated coalface! Hand in your check before you enter the mine but watch out when the roof collapses! Continue your topic back at school using our Mining Gallery worksheets and our exclusive publication, 'Childhood Memories of a Miner's Son', the personal recollections of a local mining family during the early part of this century, a valuable aid to literacy work and local history resource. 3 Habitat Discovery Unlock the secrets of Heathland at your local Nature Reserve on our full day tour Adjacent to the Museum of Cannock Chase, the Hednesford Hills provides an ideal location in which to introduce your children to learning about the natural environment. Compare the rare heathland habitat with other habitats when you get back to school. Discover the plants and animals that inhabit heathland with our slide show and create your own food chain and food web! Your guide will lead you over the Hednesford Hills on a discovery walk, during which you will learn to find your way by reading a map and identify trees and plants that grow on the Hills. Take your own bit of heathland home! Time to make a mess! Make a rope using resources from the heathland, just as people did in the past! Meet some real animals and birds from a local wildlife sanctuary and learn all about them from their keeper. A full day to link in with your Science and Geography work at KS per child - adults go free! We can accommodate up to 65 children per day. 4 Toys and Games Past and Present Tour Compare the toys of today with those from the past in a full day of fun and informative hands-on activities! Learn about the history of toys and toy making in our Toys Past & Present exhibition, with a talk from your costumed guide. Play with the toys in our handling collection! Play games from the past and master the skills of the whip and top, skipping rope and cup & ball! Let the clown teach you how to pretend to be a clockwork toy in our dance workshop! Make your own puppets and peg-dolls to take home with you, just as children did in the past! Split your sides with laughter when you watch a traditional Punch & Judy show and hold a real Mr Punch! A full day to link in with your KS1 'Toys' history topic per child - Adults go free! We can accommodate up to 120 children per day, depending on availability. 5 Houses from History Tour Come to the museum and learn about Houses from History This interactive session aims to teach children about how our homes changed during the twentieth century. Our miner's wife will demonstrate how working families lived in a turn of the century cottage and will invite the children to help with the laundry. Children then enter our 1940s room to find out what homes and domestic life were like during the wartime era. This tour lasts for approximately 90 minutes and is designed to complement your KS1 History work in the classroom about changes in the way of life of pupils, their families and people around them, past & present. Worksheets are included for follow-up work back at school. Cost: 2.00 per child. We can accommodate up to 30 children per visit. Available all year round.

6 Outreach Service Toys & Games Past and Present Outreach Service Not able to visit the museum? We offer an Outreach service to primary schools. We will come to your school and hold an interactive session about Toys and Games from the past with your class of Reception or Year 1 children. Based on our popular Toys and Games educational tour at the museum, the outreach session provides a taster session of some of our activities for schools that are unable to visit us. The session will include: An introduction to the history of toys. A chance to look at and handle some old-fashioned toys. Learn some old fashioned games! Pretend to be a clockwork toy in our dance workshop! Sessions will last up to 2 hours. Museum Educators will visit your school and bring artefacts and materials for the session. All you need to provide is space for the physical activity. To ensure that all pupils get the opportunity to handle objects and have a quality experience sessions will be restricted to one class (up to 35 children). More than one session can be arranged for larger groups, but please note that we cannot deliver more than two sessions on the same day. The outreach service will be offered in Autumn and Spring term only. During the summer term, and at certain times in Autumn and Spring, schools can take part in the full Toys education tour at the museum. Cost: 120 per session, plus travel. Travel costs will range between 5 and 25 depending on your location. This service is only offered in certain areas. To find out if your school is included please call the museum on Extras: the museum can provide 'Make a Peg Doll' kits at a cost of 1.20 per child, for children to complete as follow up work to our visit.

7 Self-Guided School Visits in the Local History Gallery Bring your class for a self-guided cross curricular learning session in our new Heritage Lottery Funded Cannock Chase Local History Gallery. The study of local history is great for young learners as it helps them to gain an understanding of their local area and community, past and present. The Local History Gallery includes: Displays on the development of the Cannock Chase area, including our military, social, and industrial history. Local artefacts, written sources, oral accounts and photographs. Topics include: Natural History; Notable Local People; Health & Housing; Sport & Leisure; Wartime & Military; Rural to Industrial; Local Lifestyles... and more! Large open space for group working. Opportunity to view other museum galleries and use the gift shop. A Teacher's Pack will be provided in advance which include group activities for your pupils to carry out during their visit. Activities encourage pupils to use an enquirybased approach to compare their local area over different periods of history, stimulating discussion, evaluating evidence, generating questions and analysing different interpretations of the past. A session of 1-2 hours can be booked in the gallery, with your teachers pack included. We can accommodate one class per gallery per session. General admission to the museum is free - a small fee of 10 for administration and materials will be payable. Supports KS2 work on History, Citizenship, Geography, Creative Writing and Communication skills.
