CLEARING THE WAY CAUTION
Did you Know Not all roads in Brampton are the responsibility of the City of Brampton. The Region of Peel does winter maintenance on the major roads highlighted in yellow above. When you call us, you may be redirected to one of these other organizations. Region of Peel: Ministry of Transportation: Highway 407 ETR: Highway 410 is maintained by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). Highway 407 Express Toll Route (ETR) is privately operated.
Thanks neighbour You make a difference Thanks for doing the right thing: Clearing snow and ice from your sidewalks by 11 am the day after a snowfall. Clearing the sidewalks both in front of and beside your property if you live on a corner lot. Not shovelling snow from your property onto the road or sidewalk. Not parking on the street until it has been salted or plowed (even if you have a valid permit to park). Parking on the street during or after a snowfall blocks access for snow clearing equipment and emergency service. Did a neighbour come and shovel snow for you? on Twitter and say #thanksneighbour!
Our work crews maintain roads and sidewalks in a priority order. What s done? When? Primary roads carry high volumes of traffic (e.g. Main Street, Bramalea Road) on a Brampton Transit/Züm bus route have a Peel Public or Separate school First to be cleared when it snows Salted as needed, then plowed continuously during any snowfall Local residential streets and courts CAUTION Started once primary roads are complete Salted (may be sanded during extreme cold weather) Plowed when a single storm results in at least 7.5 cm of snow Completed within 24 hours after the end of a snowfall** City-cleared sidewalks on primary roads in front of City parks/facilities curb-faced (no grass boulevard) behind a property on roads with Brampton Transit/Züm bus stops Recreational facility parking lots Park recreation trails Plowed and sanded Salted and/or sanded Salted and/or sanded Plowed when snow accumulation reaches 7.5 cm Completed within 48 hours after the end of a snowfall** **These are our service level goals. Service may take longer if weather conditions are severe.
Did you know? Before a storm, we put a liquid salt brine down on primary roads. This prevents snow from sticking on the roads and makes them easier to plow. Not sure if you live on a primary or local road, or if your sidewalk is cleared by the City? Visit and click on Snow Plow Routes to search by address. The priority of our work crews is to clear the travelled portion of the road. The only place to move the snow is onto the boulevard, which includes driveways. As a result, the snow left at the end of your driveway (known as a windrow ) is unavoidable. In case of emergency Winter can bring severe weather conditions. Brampton s Emergency Management Office has information to help your family be prepared in the event of heavy snow, freezing rain, extreme cold or other conditions. City of Brampton recreation facilities are designated as safe haven locations. If an emergency is declared, you can take shelter or visit when in need of assistance. Visit for tips on developing an emergency plan, putting together emergency kits for your home and car, and staying safe when driving or shovelling.
Contact Us. For questions about: Status of winter road and sidewalk operations Snow removal from park pathways or recreation facility parking lots Contact: Public Works TTY: Parked cars blocking snow removal equipment Sidewalks not cleared by a homeowner Enforcement and By-law Services enforcement@brampton.ca or 311 Connect with us: Remember, please allow crews sufficient time to remove snow and ice. Only call if it s been more than 24 hours since the end of a snowfall. Alternate formats available upon request
