1 SESSION 4 - FRIDAY 5 OCTOBER LAND-BASED INDUSTRY Plasma based direct metal deposition, a means to cost and time efficient manufacturing of complex titanium components. CEO Petter Gjørvad, Norsk Titanium Components as The use of titanium is increasing rapidly, as the demand for light, strong, and corrosion resistant solutions are increasing. The limiting factor for an even wider use of titanium is the high cost of titanium, and particularly the manufacturing cost. As an example, it takes up to 110 tons of titanium to produce one Boeing Dreamliner, of this 110 tons, 80% to 90% is machined away leaving 10 to 15 tons in the finished aircraft. Norsk Titanium Component (NTiC) has developed a technology that reduces the manufacturing cost of titanium components dramatically. By using titanium wire and a plasma torch, NTiC is able to build up components by depositing titanium layer by layer to a near net shape component, reducing the material usage and machining time dramatically. CMT TWIN- the best of both technologies Mr. Andreas Millinger Fronius International GmbH CMT Twin is a tandem welding process that is based on the CMT and TimeTwin processes. This brings advantages like ultra-high welding speeds, superior gapbridging and ease of operation. CMT Twin is a true all-rounder that can handle anything from ultra light and light-gauge sheets all the way up to thick plates of any type. New generation ferritic and duplex stainless steels: Preliminary study on mechanical and in-service properties of welded joints Senior Scientist Mika Sirèn, VTT, Finland This pre-screening study covers two novel ferritic and one duplex stainless steel: the 17% Cr double Nb+Ti stabilised and , the latter with additional 2% Mo alloying, and the so-called lean duplex grade with 21.5% Cr 5% Mn 1.5% Ni N. The materials were used as sheets of 2 and 3 mm thickness. The ferritic base materials were characterised by using Charpy-V impact and fracture toughness testing, whereas reference fracture mechanical data for was acquired from literature. Reliable Joining Methods for Car Body Assembly with Challenges for Future Mixed Material Scenarios v/ Technical Specialist BIW Joining Tech. Johnny K Larsson, Volvo Car Corporation This presentation will review State-of-Art technologies for automotive car bodyassembly in a global perspective, with examples from the Volvo product range butalso from competitors in the luxury passenger car segment. Welding methods such as resistance spot welding, laser welding and arc welding, featuring the CMT [ColdMetal Transfer] technique, will be addressed, covering the latest innovative technologies for robust and quality assured welding processes Closing the meeting NORDIC WELDING CONFERENCE 2012 REGISTRATION FORM/CONFERENCE INFORMATION Date: 4 and 5 of October 2012 Place: Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica, Kongsveien 26, N-0712 Oslo How to find the hotel By plane to Gardermoen Oslo: Airport express train to Oslo Central Station. THURSDAY 4 OCTOBER Kemppi ArcQ A novel approach to welding quality monitoring DR. Petteri Jernstrøm, Business and Technology manager Kemppi Oy Kemppi ArcQ opens a new era in welding monitoring. It provides easy means for controlling that the welders are qualified and the WPSs are followed. The system reports non-conformances automatically in real time. It also anticipates service needs and collects data for quality documentation, offering traceability up to individual welds. The productivity benefits come from increased quality, automated monitoring and faster collection of project documentation. WPS assessment by Thermo-Mechanical Finite Element Simulations Principal Specialist Fracture Avoidance Per Lindstrøm, Det Norske Veritas The authors of this paper have developed, implemented and evaluated a material model to be used with the commercial finite element software LS-Dyna for the sake of Computational Welding Mechanics, CWM, of multi pass weld joints. [1] The features of the model has been benchmarked and evaluated against results of LS-Dyna s default welding simulation capabilities as well as published RSDP, Residual Stress and Distortion Prediction results presented by the IIW, International Institute of Welding, IIW RSDP Round Robin, Phase 1. [2] The Design and Application of High Nickel Alloy Welding Consumables for The Oil & Gas Industri Segment Mr. James Walker, Bøhler Welding Group The presentation covers the features of Nickel, its alloying with a variety of metals, and materials selection considerations to be taken into account with respect to use in Oil & Gas Segment applications. It covers weld cladding, joining of pipe materials and dissimilar material welding and other applications hope fully offering insight and assistance to welding and materials engineers.
