4 BS3:60 Foreword This British Standard makes reference to the followg British Standards: BS503, Steels for fired and unfired pressure vessels. Forggs. BS560, Steel pipe flanges and flanged fittgs (nomal sizes to 4 ) for the petroleum dustry. BS50, Boltg for the petroleum dustry. BS335, Pipg systems for petroleum referies and petrochemical plants. and to the followg American Standards Association Standard (obtaable through the British Standards Institution): A.S.A. B6.0, Rg-jot gaskets and grooves for steel pipe flanges. This British Standard is one of a series prepared under the authority of the Petroleum Equipment Industry Standards Committee. It is complementary to BS560, Steel pipe flanges and flanged fittgs (Nomal sizes to 4 ) for the petroleum dustry. In view of the ternational character of the petroleum dustry care has been taken to ensure terchangeability practice between flanges of the sizes covered which are produced by British and American manufacturers. At present there is no national American standard for steel flanges above 4 nomal size. The dimensions given here are, however, general conformity with the standard practice of the American Manufacturers Standardization Society of the Valve and Fittgs Industry (SP44) and with those currently adopted by the prcipal American flange makers. Acknowledgment is made to the American Standards Association, the American Society for Testg Materials and to the American Manufacturers Standardization Society of the Valve and Fittgs Industry for data use. A British Standard does not purport to clude all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an side front cover, pages i and ii, pages to 3 and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments corporated. This will be dicated the amendment table on the side front cover. ii BSI

5 BS3:60 Section. General Section. Materials Scope This British Standard is a material and dimensional standard only and applies to forged carbon steel slip-on and weldg neck flanges of nomal sizes6 and larger, for use the petroleum dustry. Drillg, boltg, facg and thickness dimensions are applicable also to tegral end flanges of valve and fittgs. Four classes of flanges are provided for, namely Classes50, 0,400 and 600. The standard does not clude pressure/temperature ratgs; the flange designations quoted are for identification purposes only. Designation and pressure temperature ratgs To facilitate orderg and to ensure terchangeability, flanges this standard are designated as Classes50, 0,400 and 600. These class designations, however, do not imply specific pressure/temperature ratgs the same manner as flanges accordance with BS 560. Users shall therefore satisfy themselves that the flanges selected are adequate for the tended duty. Where it is required to use the flanges this standard at temperatures below 0 F reference should be made to BS Flange facgs For Class50 flanges, raised facgs only are specified. For Classes 0,400 and 600 flanges, both raised facgs and rg-jot facgs are specified, and the purchaser shall specify when orderg, which type of facg is required. The high facg is the regular type of raised facg for flanges of Classes 50 and 0, and the / 4 high facg is the regular type of raised facg for flanges of Classes 400 and Nomal sizes The nomal size of a flange as shown the tables is the same as the nomal. 5 Materials for flanges Flanges shall be carbon steel forggs to the followg specification, full details of which are contaed BS 503 Material to BS Grade Class A or B. (A.S.T.M. A05, GradeI) may be supplied if specified by the purchaser 6 Boltg materials All boltg material shall comply with BS 50 ). For pressures and temperatures above 5 psi and 450 F, bolts shall be of alloy steel conformity with Part of the above standard, and nuts shall be of carbon or alloy steel conformity with Part. For pressures and temperatures up to and cludg 5 psi and 450 F, carbon steel bolts and nuts complyg with Part3 of the above standard may be used. Section 3. Dimensions and tolerances Flanges British Standard BS Grade Class A or B. Comparable A.S.T.M. Standard A05 Grade II a) Flange dimensions. Flange dimensions shall conform to those given Table, Table 3, Table 5 and Table. In no case, regardless of the type of facg provided and the tolerances referred to Clause b), shall the mimum thickness of a flange, as specified the tables listed above, be reduced order to provide adequate height for a raised facg or adequate depth for a rg groove, except where a Class50 or a Class 0 flange is provided with a raised facg, when the height of the facg is cluded the mimum flange thickness specified. b) Tolerances on flange dimensions. The followg are the tolerances permitted on flange dimensions: i) Slip-on weldg flanges (Table, Table 3, Table 5 and Table ). On flange bore Dimension B On flange thickness Dimension C ) Boltg for the petroleum dustry. BSI
