2 Market Information VIRIDIAN S HISTORY Viridian entered the New York market in February 0. We currently serving electricity Customers of Con Edison, Central Hudson, National Grid, NYSEG, Orange & Rockland and Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E). In January 0, Viridian began offering natural gas service to Customers in Central Hudson, Con Edison, National Grid Metro, National Grid Long Island and Orange & Rockland. MARKET SNAPSHOT* As of April 0,,68,87 residential accounts had chosen a thirdparty supplier for electricity, representing 0.4% of the 5,77,47 eligible residential accounts in the state. In the commercial sector, 80,748 of 89,58 eligible non-residential electricity accounts had chosen a third-party supplier, representing.5% of the market. RESIDENTIAL MARKET SNAPSHOT 79.6% HAVE NOT CHOSEN 0.4% HAVE CHOSEN A SUPPLIER LOCAL LANGUAGE The utilities and state regulators refer to a third-party electric supplier as an ESCO, (Electric Service Company), Energy Marketer or Energy Supplier. REGULATORS New York utilities and suppliers are regulated by the New York Public Service Commission (NY PSC). The NY PSC licenses suppliers, monitors market activity and implements consumer protection policy when it comes to energy choice. Central Hudson believes that all Customers should have the choice to select a supplier who can best meet their needs. Con Edison still delivers your energy, but now you can choose to buy your electricity and natural gas from a number of Energy Service Companies (ESCOs). Source: National Grid: Now you can choose to purchase energy from a variety of suppliers... Even if you switch to another supplier, we will continue to deliver your energy, respond to service and emergency needs and provide storm restoration services. We encourage you to consider all available energy supply options and determine which one will best meet your needs. The supply charge is what you pay your supplier for the energy you use. You can purchase your energy supply from RG&E or a supplier other than RG&E. With any supplier you choose, RG&E will continue to deliver your energy safely and reliably. Source: Financial Assistance Most Customers in New York receiving financial assistance will continue to have assistance applied to both the supply and delivery portions of their bill. Due to the various forms of government assistance, however, it is always advisable for a Customer to contact the utility before enrolling with Viridian. Budget Billing Central Hudson, Con Edison, Orange & Rockland, National Grid: The utility manages budget billing for both the delivery and supply portions of the bill. Customers should contact the utility prior to enrolling with Viridian to see how their monthly budget amount may change. NYSEG, Rochester Gas & Electric, National Grid: Upon enrollment, new Viridian Customers need to notify their utility. Their budget bill amount will recalculated to include only the delivery charges, and the Customer will be billed for actual usage each month. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Bill of Rights New York State protects consumers by requiring all ESCOs to provide a standard Bill of Rights. All new Viridian Customers must initial the Bill of Rights on their paperwork or online. ENROLLMENT AND BILLING For your convenience, we are providing two sample utility bills. The first highlights key information your Customer needs to know in order to switch to Viridian. The second shows what the Customer s bill will look like after enrolling with Viridian. Comparing Rates Due to the way energy is produced in the New York grid, New York utilities set their Price to Compare on a daily basis. It is difficult to provide accurate rate-to-rate savings for this market, and Viridian will not always list a Price to Compare on the marketing rate tools. You may call the utility or check its website for the most current rates, but remember that any comparisons are strictly estimates, as the utility s rates and the Customer s usage will vary. After a Customer has enrolled with Viridian, the Customer will continue to receive a bill from Central Hudson as usual. A few things will look different. Viridian s name will be listed as the supplier on Page of the Customer s bill. Viridian s supply charge, which includes the MFC supply charge, market price and market price adjustments charges, will listed in a separate section under cost for an electricity supplier. 6 Con Edison Enrollment & Billing ENROLLMENT RATES To enroll with Viridian, a Con Edison Customer must provide his or her 5-digit Account Number, Viridian s rate will include all of the charges under Your Supply Charges on Page, as well as a located in the top left-hand corner on Page of the variable sales tax. Your Supply Charges include utility bill. the supply charge, merchant function charge and the GRT and other tax surcharge. Con Edison provides the Price to Compare in the text box below the Total Supply Charges on Page of the bill. You can compare this rate to Viridian s current published supply rate. Note: Con Edison has two pricing zones that receive different rates based on demand in the specific area. Customers in Westchester County will receive Viridian s Westchester zone rate and Customers in New York City will receive Viridian s NYC zone rate. 4 Most Con Edison electric Customers that are eligible for Viridian s service will have one of the following rate codes. 7 POST ENROLLMENT Utility Notification: Shortly after the Customer s enrollment is processed, Con Ed will send a letter in the mail notifying the Customer of the service change to an electric supplier. Viridian s charge will be listed on the bill summary on Page of the bill as the ESCO electricity supply charges. After a Customer has enrolled with Viridian, the Customer will continue to receive a bill from Con Edison as usual. A few things will look different. On Page, the supply charges section will show Viridian as the supplier. On Page 4, Viridian s name and information will be provided under your electricity supply detail. 4 On Page 4, Viridian s charges are outlined. Note that the supply portion includes a variable sales tax. Even though the sales tax was not listed as a singular line item in the supply portion before the Customer enrolled with Viridian, the sales tax was still applied to the entire energy charge from the utility. Sales tax always applies to the supply portion, whether the Customer is with an ESCO or with the utility. 8 National Grid Upstate Enrollment & Billing (Electric & Natural Gas) ENROLLMENT RATES To enroll with Viridian, a National Grid Customer must provide the 0-digit Account Number, National Grid has different loadzones based on transmission connections across the state. located at the top of page of the utility bill. The Customer s zone determines what rate the Customer will receive from Viridian. You can see the Customer s zone in the blue enrollment information column on the left side of page. Most Customers who are eligible for Viridian s service will have Electric SC or Gas SC for residential Customers and Electric SC or Gas SC for small commercial Customers listed as their rate. 10 New York State Electric & Gas Enrollment & Billing ENROLLMENT RATES To enroll with Viridian, a NYSEG Customer must provide the 5-character PoD ID, beginning with the letter N, located in the top right-hand corner of Page of the utility bill. Zones NYSE&G has 6 different loadzones based on transmission connection across different areas of the state. The Customer s zone determines what rate the Customer will receive from Viridian. Viridian s rate will replace the Electricity Supply charges, which include the Supply Charge and Merchant Function Charges. These charges are found on Page. Once a Customer enrolls with an ESCO, the Customer will no longer pay a merchant function charge. The rate code can be found at the top of Page, under the Customer s service address. A standard residential Customer s type of service will be Residential, while the standard commercial Customer s will be Commercial. For rate codes not listed, please contact the utility to fully understand how choosing a supplier will impact the Customer s service. Viridian s supply rate will replace the Transmission and Basic Generation Charges, found on Page of the bill. Most O&R Customers who are eligible for Viridian s service will have one of the following rate codes: RS (Residential Service) or GS (General Service/ commercial) The rate code description can be found at the top of Page. For standard residential service, it will say Electric Residential. Viridian s rate includes the supply charge found on Page of the bill. Customers who enroll with an ESCO such as Viridian will not be charged the merchant function charge. The rate code can be found at the top of Page, under the Customer s service address.
