5 preparing for MEPC 227(64) in the Baltic Sea IMO regulation MEPC 227(64) for special area Baltic Sea will require all passenger vessels to install advanced wastewater purification system with nutrient removal the new regulations to be enforced in the Baltic Sea is well recognized by the Cruise industry Scanship has wastewater purification technology available for Cruise ships and Ferries, both to fit their planned newbuilds as well as to upgrades existing vessels as retrofits Most of the Cruise newbuilds being contracted from 2012 will be equipped with wastewater purification systems to meet the MEPC 227(64) RCCL has upgraded the Voyager Class and the Vision Class of ships to be prepared for the new legislation in the Baltic Sea MSC and NCL vessels equipped with Scanship AWP installed before 2012 can be modified to meet the new MEPC 226(64) technology is available for newbuilds and existing cruise fleet 5
6 black water & grey water treatment to obtain nitrogen removal, black water and grey water must be mixed to have enough organic matter in relation to the load of nitrogen in the black water the organic content in the grey water will be the required carbon source for biological nitrogen removal most of the phosphorous, organic matter and suspended solids origins from the grey water 1) incl. 7 Compliance test Scanship AWP Norwegian Breakaway the Scanship AWP on Norwegian Breakaway underwent an extensive compliance test period in October 2013 the test results were all within the requirement of IMO MEPC ), Alaska Murkowski and the IMO MEPC 227(64) with nutrient removal the removal rate of organic matter were measured at more than 95%, nitrogen at more than 80% and phosphorous more than 99% the effluent concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorous were well below the limitations of the IMO Marpol MEPC 227(64) DNV GL is currently certifying the Scanship AWP for the new MEPC 227(64) standard as an addition to the MEPC 159(55) certificates issued Test results % removal rate and effluent concentrations on Norwegian Breakaway Scanship AWP will be certified according to MEPC 227(64) 7
