2 Words Their Way : Word Study in Action Correlated to Introduction This document demonstrates how Words Their Way: Word Study in Action partners with. Correlation page references are to the Words Their Way: Word Study in Action Teacher Resource Guide (TRG) and are cited by level. This correlation is provided for reading teachers to follow the scope and sequence of the Reading Street program listed in the first column of this document and supplement with the matching Words Their Way instruction. Words Their Way (WTW): Word Study in Action is a developmental word study program for Kindergarten through Grade 5. It is based on the Words Their Way: Word Study for Phonics, Vocabulary and Spelling Instruction professional development text, currently in its 4th edition and published by Allyn Bacon/Merrill. Words Their Way: Word Study in Action is a supplemental product that is designed to be used for 15 to 20 minutes a day and can be used in conjunction with other reading programs. Words Their Way: Word Study in Action Sorts (lessons) focus on a systematic progression of alphabet, pattern, and meaning. Meaning connections among words as well as spelling-meaning connections are highlighted. The words chosen at each level were selected based on spelling patterns as well as relevance to curriculum and grade-level appropriateness. Activities in the lessons encourage students to search for words in context thereby deepening their understanding of word meanings., Grades K-6, is an all-new comprehensive Reading and Language Arts series for the 21st Century. Explicit, systematic, high-quality instruction, organized by grade level, focuses on the five critical elements of reading that have been identified by research: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students who use Words Their Way: Word Study in Action in conjunction with Scott Foresman Reading Street 2011 will achieve a high degree of success in all elements of reading.
