1 Institut d Etudes Humanitaires Internationales MASTER 2 Action et Droit Humanitaires - Parcours Humanitaire et Développement Humain MASTER DEGREE Humanitarian Action and Law - Humanitarian Action and Human Development (HAHD) course Participation in this Master Degree university course can be completed (on a voluntary basis) with the participation in the postgraduate diploma «Gestion des Crises Humanitaires et Réduction des Risques» / «Humanitarian Crisis Management and Risk Reduction» The specificity of the HAHD Master Degree This university course implemented in a Faculty of Law and Political Science comprises an important core of legal disciplines: general international law, international humanitarian law, international organizations law, refugee law, state and rule of law rebuilding, and even European Union Law as European Union appears to be one of the main technical and financial partners for humanitarian assistance) social legislation, transport law, associative law This specificity is reflected in the specialization course unit, but already exists in the fundamental course unit (composed with various legal and geopolitics disciplines units aiming at providing the needed tools and keys to understanding for the second semester/period. A strong focus is put on the safeguarding of humanitarian principles (against quantitative drifts/negative spiral), on the legal tools for humanitarian action management and on the international relations law; In addition, the IEHI pedagogical committee implements a continuous follow-up of geopolitical risk factors and develops a constant reflection on the potential legal responses to these risk factors. Courses are delivered, depending on their specificities, by academic teachers and/or by humanitarian professional and experienced workers. Courses are both practical and theoretical, and individual or collective exercises are regularly implemented (project design, fund-raising, etc.). This university course provides students with specific academic knowledge adapted to their future career. Page 1 de 5

2 Who is the HAHD Master Degree for? Requirements: 1. Law Master 1 Degree (all specializations) or other relevant Master Degree in view of humanitarian action specificities (e.g. Master 1 Degree in psychology, sociology, history, geography, foreign languages, political science, engineering, business and trade schools. In this case the recognition of the equivalence of this Master 1 Degree will be examined by an academic body. 2. Medical Master Degree or other medical qualifications (for example: Master 1 Degree in Public Health or Biology, nurses with relevant professional experience, etc.) 3. A strong-enough humanitarian professional experience after validation from the competent academic body Having a sufficient foreign language level (master of one or two of the mainly spoken languages English, Spanish, French is mandatory. Having a first experience in humanitarian action (volunteer work with NGOs or other organizations, trainings etc.) or another relevant Master Degree can be a plus. The pedagogical committee takes decisions according to the global profile of candidates. Education program/ What is the training offer? 1. This Master Degree aims at providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills to allow them being reliable interlocutors for humanitarian professional workers (doctors, engineers, logisticians).. Ability to analyze (with a specific focus on vulnerability) Master and knowledge of geopolitical follow-up (methods and tools) Project design methodology (general aspects) Ability to take in charge support tasks and activities (administration, human resources) Ability to take in charge protection-linked activities Ability to develop a multi factorial situation analysis Ability to identify situations legal aspects Ability to understand law effectiveness, gaps and implementation Ability to work in a team Knowledge of missions set-up and functioning Knowledge of logistics, accountancy and security issues What are the potential professional outlets? Graduate students will be able to: Work efficiently at headquarters/desk level Work efficiently as a field officer/manager Take in charge management or coordination activities for NGOs, UN Agencies or inter-state cooperation services.
