3 A Letter from your President Dear Class of 2013, Ready or not, the time for us to grow up and move on from high school has arrived. Some of us, sadly, are going to move into big cities where you won t find a giant green dinosaur in the park. Wherever the wind takes you, I hope you never forget to tell everyone about the cute little town you grew up in. After all, this town is what makes each of us unique yet connected at the same time. Not very many people can say they have been to a headless chicken festival, or that they grew up with the National Monument in their backyard, we came from a unique little town so whether you stay or go I hope you always remember: Take pride in where you come from, and have faith in how far you can go. Seniors line up at 6:00 p.m. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT ATTEND PRACTICE AND HAVE NOT MADE PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS WITH MRS. KEIRNS, WILL NOT GO THROUGH GRADUATION EXERCISES. 5 IMPORTANT INFORMATION SENIOR CHECK-OUT DEADLINE THE SENIOR CHECK-OUT FORM WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO THE GRADUATING SENIORS DURING THEIR FIFTH/SIXTH BLOCK OR FIFTH HOUR CLASS AT FMHS ON MONDAY, MAY 6TH. All assignments, school fines, fees, and final clearance MUST BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN 2:00 p. m. Thursday, May 9th. You will not receive your cap and gown until this check-out sheet is cleared!!! REMINDER: You will not walk with your class or receive your diploma until all fees owed are cleared with the fees office. Handicap Seating Will be available to the handicapped person and one other, all other family members will need to sit in the bleachers. Handicap seating will be located along the fence line of the track. Thanks FINAL EXAMS Graduating seniors will be taking finals on May 8th and 9th. TESTS CAN ONLY BE TAKEN DURING THE REGULAR CLASSROOM SESSIONS. INCOMPLETE WORK Only students who fulfill the graduation requirements established by the Board of Education will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremonies. ALL INCOMPLETE GRADES WILL BECOME AN F. LOCKERS Be sure your lockers are cleared of all books and personal property by the time you leave school on May 9th. FMHS WILL NOT be responsible for any contents left in your locker. A fine will be assessed if the locker has been damaged or left dirty. Please remove all decals, pictures, and markings from your locker s interior and exterior. NON-PARTICIPATING GRADUATES Each year some seniors do not wish to participate in the graduation ceremonies. If you do not wish to participate with the Class of 2013, a letter stating these intentions must be filed with Mrs. Keirns in the Administration office by May 6th. If an emergency situation arises, please see Mrs. Keirns.

6 S E N I O R A C T I V I T I E S SENIOR PICNIC The senior picnic will be held on Monday, May Lincoln Park following Graduation Practice. BACCALAUREATE Monday, May 13th Baccalaureate is a graduating class non-denominational service. It will take place on Monday, May 13th, at 7:00 p.m. in the FMHS south gym. (Seniors will gather in the north gym at 6:00 p.m.). This is not a requirement, it is however, a FMHS tradition. In the past, this part of graduation has been especially meaningful as it is your first opportunity to WEAR YOUR CAP AND GOWN and be recognized as a graduate. COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES Tuesday, May 14th 6:00 p.m. Seniors will report to Stocker Stadium 7:00 p.m. Processional SENIORS WHO DO NOT ATTEND PRACTICE AND HAVE NOT MADE PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS WITH Mrs. Keirns WILL NOT GO THROUGH GRADUATION EXCERCISES.

7 GRADUATE INFORMATION PRANKS Any Senior who vandalizes, breaks into FMHS, or is involved in pranks leading to vandalism will not be permitted to participate in graduation ceremonies. These students will also be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for any crime they have committed against FMHS. REPORT CARDS WILL BE MAILED TO GRADUATES IN MID-JUNE. ANNOUNCEMENTS WCCC CLASSES - CAREER CENTER CLASSES Seniors attending classes at WCCC and Career Center will complete their final day on Wednesday, May 8th. IMMUNIZATION RECORD A copy of your immunization record will be behind your diploma. You may need it for college or employment. PICTURES Order forms will be available for you to purchase pictures of your graduate receiving his/her diploma, you will not be able to be on the field to take pictures during this time. Orders for announcements were taken by Scott Beilfuss/Rick Wilding in October, when your order was placed for your cap and gown. 8 GRADUATE INFORMATION CAP AND GOWN INFO Caps and gowns will be distributed by Jostens in the auditorium, on Thursday, May 9th between 10:42 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Any balance still owed will be due when you pick up your gown. If you have not placed an order for your cap and gown, you must contact Mr. Beilfuss or Mr. Wilding at as soon as possible. WEARING THE CAP AND GOWN Caps Gowns Caps should be placed on the head so that the mortarboard is level, with the long point of the crown to the back. The shorter front point should be well down on the forehead. In order for these caps to stay in place, they may need to be secured with a hair pin. Try these on BEFORE the big day. Young men will remove their caps during prayers and the National Anthem at Commencement and Baccalaureate. The gown is delivered folded and packaged in plastic. When you receive yours, take it home, remove it from the package, and allow it to hang on a hanger. It still may require pressing prior to graduation. If so, press lightly with a WARM - iron, as this fabric is delicate. Tassels The cap tassel is to be worn over the left temple. Tassels should never be pinned or sewn; they should be allowed to hang naturally. Other Medals, Tassels and Cords In addition, students are encouraged to wear other medals/tassels/cords they may have earned during the past four years. Examples: Honors in Excellence Medals, National Honor Society Tassel, Speech Cord, Four Year Academic Cord, etc. Only school approved Academic Cords and/or Medals may be worn.

9 WHAT TO WEAR UNDER THE GOWN Baccalaureate and commencement represent the culmination of thirteen years of formal public schooling. It is a time of pride, so look your best and congratulate yourself on a job well done. 1. Girls generally wear dresses under their gowns. It is recommended that girls wear light colored dresses to prevent the dress from showing through the gown. 2. Appropriate dress shoes should be worn by both boys and girls. Tennis shoes, hiking boots, flip flops and sandals are discouraged. 3. Young men generally wear light colored shirts, dark slacks and dark ties to complement the gown. Sport shirts, jeans or Levis are discouraged. 4. PLEASE NOTE: There is NO SAFE PLACE to leave coats, purses, etc. during the graduation exercises. Therefore, at both Baccalaureate and Commencement, leave your personal possessions with your parents or at home. THE FOLLOWING IS A STATEMENT OF FMHS AND SCHOOL DISTRICT 51 S POSITION REGARDING COMMENCEMENT. Graduation from high school is an event which comes only once in a lifetime. Your parents, relatives, friends, and most importantly you deserve a graduation ceremony that will be dignified and memorable. Your cooperation is essential. The following guidelines explain what is expected of you: NOT PERMITTED Informal attire (jeans, T-shirts, etc.), and decoration or deviation from the traditional cap and gown, which would draw undue attention to the individual. The administrator in charge will have the final decision in denying a graduate s participation due to inappropriate attire. It is not necessary to specify unacceptable, negative behavior at the graduation ceremony. Any behavior which draws attention to you as an individual or detracts from the dignity of the ceremony itself will result in your exclusion from the ceremony. We want graduation to be a special and class event. Please do your part to make your graduation the best ever at Fruita Monument High School.
