2 ii National Development Squad 2016 Aims, objectives and aspirations: National Development squad supports the National Promgramme by increasing both club participation and addressing coach education through quarterly training sessions. This squad initiative works towards an overall objective to raise national skill level of it s selected members and gymnast s personal coaches. Format: The annual calendar runs from January to December and will consist of 4 scheduled sessions throughout the year. Attendance for this squad is mandatory for both selected gymnasts and their personal coaches who will be responsible for following the training guidelines set out by the National coaches. It is the intention that by putting clubs together through regular training sessions, encourging coaches to work openly with all gymnasts in support of skill sharing that ongoing National progress will continue. Selection: Selection onto Development Squad is through testing of both Physical Preparation and skill level and furthermore through talent identification. Age eligibility of NDS targets gymnasts aged 7 on Jan 1st through Junior Age. (13 years on Jan 1st). This squad on occcasion can also function as an effective transition to and from OSS. When considering the suitability of an eligible athlete a gymnast may on occasion be invited to attend a squad session for further consideration. Clubs will be required to send in an expression of interest for all gymnasts requesting trials at the end of the calendar year. Skill level: Clubs will need to refer to current testing criteria for season which is each season Selection Testing Criteria - Development Squad The criteria for Development Squad is assessed on a points system. 0 = Can not perform requirement.5 = Can do requirement with major execution / technical errors 1 = Can do requirement with minor execution / technicial errors 2 = Can do requirement to a high competition standard The highest scoring gymnasts from each age group will be selected each year to form the NDS.
