1 HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Service Release release notes These release notes provide information and describe issues related to the release of Service Release for HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage Systems running the Standard Edition of Microsoft Windows Storage Server Part number: First edition: April 2007

3 VERSION: Version Information can be obtained: In the HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Management console by selecting System Settings and viewing System Information On the HP All-in-One Updater utility screen These release notes provide information about the contents of Service Release and describe issues related to the release of Service Release for HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage Systems running the Standard edition of Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2. The Service Release provides an installation utility and a rollup of individual support update components for your system. Applying this Service Release will update your HP All-in-One Storage System to version Update recommendation Recommended Supersedes Not applicable. The HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Service Release is the firstservicereleasefortheall-in-onestoragesystem. Prerequisites Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 is required before installing the Service Release. For Web downloads, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 should be obtained separately from Microsoft; it is not included in the Service Release contents downloaded from the HP.com (Software & Drivers) site. Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 is included as a separate installable component located in the D:\OTHERS folder on the Service Release DVD. NOTE: If needed, the HP Storage System Installer for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 in the Service Release will guide you through the installation of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2. A reboot is required after installing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2. After the reboot, the HP AiO Updater will be automatically launched to continue Service Release installation. 4 French Italian German Japanese Korean Simplified Chinese Spanish Traditional Chinese Issues and workarounds This section details known issues with the installation of Service Release or use of the HP All-in-One Updater utility. General installation issues Service Release issues and workarounds Minimum disk space requirement for Service Release installation TheHPStorageWorksAll-in-OneStorageSystemshouldhaveatleast1GBof available space on the system drive when installing the Service Release. The specific amount of disk space required depends on the components that are selected for installation. Ensure that the system drive where the Service Release setup is installed has more than 1 GB of available disk space. To free up disk space, unnecessary files can be deleted from the C:\temp folder. This situation can also be avoided by ensuring that only the necessary components are selected for installation when theservicereleasesetupisrun. Free hard disk space requirements for Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) A minimum of 1.3GB of free hard disk space is required on your system when installing Windows Server 2003 SP2 from the Service Release DVD. For more information about hard disk free space requirements for Windows Server2003SP2,seeMicrosoftKnowledgeBasearticleKB926029at Not applicable. Running the Service Release setup using a network share results in an Open File Security Warning message When redirecting the All-in-One Updater utility to a network drive or share with Service Release 1.2.0, the Windows Open File Security Warning is displayed. Select Run to allow the installation process to continue. This message may display more than once. PSP Smart Components remain checked even though the components were installed Some ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) Smart Components remain checked for selection in the Feature Selection screen when the Service Release installation is re-run after a previous installation. This issue is caused by the necessary hardware required for the PSP components not being present on the server. 4

5 Service Release issues and workarounds Having the PSP Smart Components checked does not have any affect on their installation in this situation. This can be verified from the PSP Smart Component log file located at C:\CPQSYSTEM\log\cpqsetup.log. Install Shield Error 1607/1628 during Service Release installation Installation error 1607: Unable to install Install Shield Scripting Runtime and/or 1628: failed to complete installation may be reported during installation of the Service Release. This error can occur for various reasons, the most prevalent being a driver did not exit properly when the Service Release is run the first time. This issue is currently under investigation. Run the Service Release again after ensuring that no instances of the processes named msiexec.exe, setup.exe, oridriver.exe are running. User intervention required during installation of SMS v2.02 on HP StorageWorks 400 All-in-One Storage Systems with the IMB v3.0 driver During installation of Server Management System v2.02 on the AiO400 Storage System, the IMB v3.0 driver sometimes displays a security warning stating that the driver does not have a digital signature. Accepting thewarningmessagebyclickingcontinue proceeds with the installation without any issues. Save function in Notepad does not save the Service Release Readme.txt file During installation, when selecting View Readme on the Service Release End User License Agreement (EULA) screen to display the Service Release Readme.txt file, the Readme fill cannot be saved using the Save and Save As functions in Notepad. The Save As function displays the following Notepad error: Common Dialog error (0x3002). AcopyoftheReadme.txtfile is contained in the DOC in the Service Release web download and DVD. Some information in the Service Release may appear as English instead of the selected language During installation of the Service Release, some screens may display text as English instead of the selected language. This issue will be corrected in the next Service Release. InstallingtheHPStorageWorksAll-in-OneUpdate1.2.0componentintheServiceReleaseona HP StorageWorks AiO Storage System version system may display an error Installing the HP StorageWorks All-in-One Update component supplied in the Service on a HP StorageWorks AiO Storage System already using version AiO may display the following error: NTVDM encountered a hard error. The error message does not impact the installation of the AiO component and will complete successfully. All-in-One Storage System Service Release release notes 5

6 NAS Updater issues Text does not get resized properly with the HP AiO Updater utility When the graphics settings are changed on an HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System while running the update application, the update application text does not get resized. Close and restart the update application. HP AiO Updater utility does not start. Sometimes the Service Release setup will not automatically start the HP AiO Updater utility. Restart the Service Release setup. This will launch the HP AiO Updater utility. You can also start the HP AiO Updater from your desktop. HP AiO Updater error message HP AiO Updater displays the following error message: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 is not installed. Please run Service Release installer to continue. Launch the Service Release installer to install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2. Enhancements Service Release provides the following enhancements and updates for HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage Systems. NOTE: Some of the following enhancements and updates may not apply to your All-in-One Storage System. HP StorageWorks All-in-One Update, version HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Update version contains the following enhancements: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 support HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System agent support on x64 application servers Support for externally attached Modular Smart Arrays (HP StorageWorks MSA20, MSA30, MSA50, MSA60, MSA70) Component-based VSS backup is now enabled by default, allowing Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 to acknowledge the backup and truncate Exchange transaction logs. NOTE: The HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Update version is cumulative; it contains the updates in HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Service Pack 1 and beyond since release of the product. The AiO Update component included in the Service Release does not contain Microsoft Windows Multilingual User Interface (MUI) pack to enable localization of the HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System. To obtain the HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Localization DVD, go to thehpsoftwaredepotathttp:// and NAS, thenselecthp StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Service Pack 1 and Localization DVD. 6

7 IMPORTANT: After installing HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Update version 1.2.0, update the Application Storage Manager (ASM) management agents on your application servers; the older agent version will not be compatible with version Run the ASM Agent Installer setup program on your application servers after installing the Service Release. The setup program is located at: C:\hpnas\Components\All-in-One Storage Manager\AGENT\ASMAGENTINSTALLER.EXE. The ASM Agent Installer takes you through the necessary steps for installing or upgrading the agents. HP ProLiant System Smart Components Updates HP ProLiant System Smart Components include software, drivers and management agents for your HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System. These components are from the ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) 7.70 release. 8 System Drivers and Components The System Drivers and Components includes other software, drivers and management agents for your HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System. HP Server Management System for Windows, version Broadcom NetExtreme BCM57xx NIC driver version Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2 (BACS) version Hotplug Service Update for Adaptec 2420 version a Java Runtime Environment Update, version The Java Runtime Environment is the minimum standard Java computing environment for running applications written in the Java programming language. It contains the Java virtual machine, Java core classes, and supporting files. Fixes In earlier versions of the HP All-in-One Storage System Management console, the Single Instance Storage page of the HP All-in-One Storage System Management console failed to retrieve information on the space saved. The calculation of the space saved by using Single Instance Storage timed out when the number of consolidated files was large. This issue is now resolved by installing the HP StorageWorks All-in-One Update in the Service Release. In earlier releases of HP StorageWorks 400 All-in-One Storage Systems using the Adaptec SATA RAID 2420 SA Controller, an error message appeared in the Windows System Event log reporting that a disk in a slot was plug out or removed although no drives were removed. This issue is now resolved by installing the Hotplug Service Update for Adaptec 2420 component in the System Drivers and Components category during installation of the Service Release.
