1 School Newsletter Dear Parents, School Evacuation/ Civil Defense As you know we were visited by the Civil Defense, Paramedics and Police on Sunday for our full fire practice which was very successful to the delight of the Brigadier of the Civil Defense. We evacuated the whole school in under 4 minutes - KG under 3 minutes and the students were very well disciplined along with our proficient and caring teachers. As a safety exercise it has given us useful information to act in the future should the need arise. There are photos on our website and we are hoping to get a video on there as well. School Fees I have asked you for a deposit of 1000 dirhams to secure the places for your children next year. This will give me a much better idea of who is returning so I can plan accordingly. I do not want to be without teachers for the new academic year and as we are expanding further I need to know how many classes and students to cater for. Thank you to all those who have paid and verbally told me of your intentions. I am attaching the Dubai First advert for your interest if you wish to spread the full school fees over 6 to 12 months.

2 English Lessons in the Summer Vacation I have been approached by a couple of companies who will offer extra English lessons throughout the summer vacation. If any of you are are interested in finding out more then please me for details. Final Assessments You should all receive information and the timetable for our end of year assessments in the very near future As you will note we have brought them forward so they will be completed before Ramadan begins. It is very important that all of the children attend fully and on time for the school day to start and finish at the normal times. DO NOT send drivers or indeed come yourselves to take children out at the end of an assessment as revision work will be done afterwards and who better to do it with than their teachers. From the Nurse Our nurses inform me that this has been the worst week of the year for sending sick children home. Please do not send them if they are sick as it is not fair for them to feel ill in school all day and nor is it fair to their classmates and teachers. You must send in a bottle of water a day or a canister that they can fill from our water. A hat would also be a good idea at play time but we encourage students to sit in the canteen during this very hot weather. Open Day We are holding our second Open Day for NEW parents only on Saturday at 10am. We still have vacancies for Nursery and Grade 2-8. We are also pleased to announce that as of next year we will be opening up Grade 11 - AS Level - leading to Grade 12 A- Level in Half Term and End of Term Next week the school will be closed on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th for Half Term. School will be open on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and we expect all students to be in attendance, especially considering assessments are only around the corner. The school year finishes on Thursday 30th June for the whole school. Unless we have formal notification from ADEC otherwise, school will be open up to this date and the days counted as school days for the purpose of the reports. Thank you Rob Taylor Principal

3 This week in Primary The children in Grades 1 and 2 have had lots of fun dressing up and celebrating their learning in Science and Theme. We keep the Facebook page updated with photos of the children throughout the week so if you haven you to our page. It school with a full water bottle. There are facilities around school to replenish bottles but bottles should be full each morning to save time filling them up in school. Snack and lunchboxes should be nutritious and should be a good balance of fruit, vegetables, protein and complex carbohydrates. This will give children the energy they require to get them through the day. Many children have been into the nurses office after lunch complaining of headaches because they are dehydrated and this can easily be avoided. Please ensure you that you explain and reinforce to your child the importance of hydration and drinking water especially at this time of year Today, you will receive a list of topics, via , that the children are going to be assessed on during the assessment period 22 nd May to June 2 nd. Please note that teachers are always assessing children and whilst these formal assessments are important, they are not anymore important that the other types of assessment children do everyday. Children s attainment will be based on their classwork and these formal assessments. Please ask your child what their targets are. They should all know them. Encourage them to work on these over the next few weeks. Additionally, attendance at school arriving on time and leaving on time is of paramount importance. It supports them in learning content and the life skill of time management. We expect children to be in school promptly everyday at 7.45am and leave at 1.45pm unless they have clubs or a medical emergency. Many thanks
