5 National Numbers December Healthy employment growth US adds 292,000 jobs in November* Growth lead by professional & technical services, construction, health care, and food services & drinking places Mining employment continued to decline Unemployment steady at 5.0% Labor force participation rate at 62.5% Avg. hourly earnings at $25.24 *Job gains have averaged 284,000/month in the last quarter.
6 Minnesota Numbers December Employment growth picks up MN adds 9,100 jobs in December 42,485 jobs over the year (1.5% growth) Unemployment edges down to 3.5% Labor force participation rate at 70.4% Wages up 2.6% over the year *MN has gained 252,500 jobs since the low of the Great Recession, in Sept This averages out to 40,400 jobs gained per year, or 3,400 jobs gained per month. Average annual growth rate at 1.4%.

13 MN Employment Outlook With the labor market fully recovered from the recent recession, current projections show a more balanced outlook through 2022 Job growth over the next decade will average 0.7% a year, a slower pace than previous projections National projections at 1.0% a year The key macroeconomic assumptions driving the national industry projections are: Demographic changes drive demand for healthcare & related services Labor force growth will slow below 0.5% annually (baby boomers leaving) GDP projected to increase at an annual rate of 2.6% Economy will reach full employment by 2022
