See the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse and the famous Old Course. Next, stop at Pitlochry, a vibrant Victorian town. Discover its Old World appeal as you explore this popular resort town on your own. (B, D) Day 5: Friday, August 11, 2017 Eastern Highlands - Thurso Today you will visit Culloden Battlefield. On this spot in April 1746, a half-hour battle changed the course of Scotland s history. Next, make a stop at the majestic Dunrobin Castle** which dates back to the 1300s. Experience a fascinating falconry display in the formal gardens overlooking the North Sea. Later, take in the breathtaking views as you drive along the windswept cliffs of Scotland s east coast. Your day concludes in Thurso. (B) Day 6: Saturday, August 12, 2017 Thurso - Orkney Islands - Thurso A day of adventure awaits as you voyage via ferry to the Orkney Islands*** once a Viking stronghold off the coast of Scotland. On the crossing you ll see abundant bird life and, if you are lucky, porpoises and seals. A local guide introduces this magical place that very few visitors to Scotland get to experience. 5 Day 7: Sunday, August 13, 2017 Thurso - Loch Ness - Ballachulish Today, enjoy unspoiled landscapes as you return south through the Highlands. Take in the panorama of Loch Ness, one of Britain s most scenic bodies of water. Keep your eyes open you never know when Nessie will appear! Soak up the aweinspiring view at the striking ruins of Urquhart Castle. Travel through the Great Glen, famous for its many lochs (lakes), before arriving at your hotel situated on lovely Loch Linnhe. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Since 1950 the iconic Edinburgh Military Tattoo has dazzled millions of spectators with performances from musicians, pipers, drummers, singers and dancers. This epic show, unique every year, takes place at the haunting Edinburgh Castle illuminated under the open sky. In the past, the show s themes have paid tribute to nature, the Queen s 90th birthday and Scotland's homecoming, to name a few. This international festival comes alive with performers from a multitude of countries and audience members from around the world. Military pageantry and cultural celebrations, culminating with a spectacular fireworks display, set the stage for an amazing evening. Please Note: Days and features are interchangeable.
