2 Special Notes: This Camporee will be held at Sunnyvale County Park west of Wausau. To get there, follow the directions below: Take highway 29 west from Wausau. Exit at 72 nd Ave (Exit #162). At 72 nd Ave. turn left (South). Go ¼ mile to the stop sign, then continue South, the park is directly in front of you. Follow the BSA signs. We need to make sure that when we leave, there is no sign that we have been there (other than trampled grass). We may want to use this location again and we need to leave it like we found it. Remember to act like Scouts. Sunnyvale Park is a public park open to the general public. We must treat any visitors to the park with respect, or we will not be allowed to use the park again. For this Camporee, all Webelos are invited to come out and spend the day Saturday. Scoutmasters should make a special effort to invite their Webelos to come and join their troop for the fun weekend. The Webelos will be able to participate in the events on Saturday. Due to our location within the park and it s accessibility to the general public, there will be no site selection the weekend before. Campsites will be available on a first come, first serve basis on Friday October 9th after 3 pm.

6 General Information Participants This weekend Camporee is for all Boy Scouts and Webelos. Webelos are allowed to attend only for the day on Saturday, they may not stay overnight Friday or Saturday. Scoutmasters should make a special effort to invite their webelos out to enjoy the daytime activities. Check-in and Registration All troops should check-in at registration upon arrival. Registration Fee The registration fee will be $8.00 for each person staying at least one night and $4.00 for each day participant. The fee should be paid upon registration and will cover the cost of the patch, prizes, awards, insurance, and etc. Anyone participating in the events at the Camporee must register. Camping Area All camping will be in the specified areas only, so please check in BEFORE YOU SET UP Camp. There is to be no trenching around tents. Except during the raft race on Saturday afternoon, Man-Made Lake is off limits. Anyone caught in the lake at any other time will be sent home. Parking Parking is to be only in designated parking areas. There will be ample parking for all vehicles in the designated parking areas. Troops will be able to drive one vehicle into the camping area. Trailers will be allowed to stay in the troop sites, but all vehicles must be removed from the camping area. Firewood There is no down wood. All wood should be brought from home. Ground fires will be allowed. Be sure and return them to their natural condition when you leave. Due to the emerald ash borer we ask that all wood that is brought in come from no more than 50 miles away. Any extra wood must either be burned up or taken with you. It cannot be left behind. First Aid and Medical Care All injuries should be brought to the attention of the Camporee Staff IMMEDIATELY! They will get in contact with the on-site medical people if necessary. Minor cuts and scratches that can be handled with a troop first aid kit should be handled in the campsite. Lighting Bring your own lanterns. Lanterns using liquid fuel must have proper adult supervision at all times. No liquid fuel, other than in a lantern or cooking stove, will be permitted in the campsite. You may check the fuel in at the Headquarters Area for safe-keeping. Water Potable water will not be available at this Camporee. Please bring your water jugs full and what you will need for the entire weekend. An adequate supply of water should be available in campsites at all times for fire safety. Toilets The port-o-potties spread out across the grounds are for everyone s use.

7 Alcohol & Tobacco It is the policy of the Boy Scouts of America that the use of alcoholic beverages and controlled substances is not permitted at encampments or at any activity involving participation of youth members. Adult leaders should support the attitude that they, as well as youths, are better off without tobacco in any form and may not allow the use of tobacco products at any BSA activity involving youth participants. All Scouting functions, meetings, and activities should be conducted on a smoke-free basis, with smoking areas located away from all participants. Concession Stand There will be NO concession stand. Pets No pets are allowed at District Camporees or at set-up the weekend before. Ecumenical Church Services An Ecumenical Church Service is scheduled for 5:00 pm on Saturday. It will take place near the registration tent. Adult Leader Meeting There will be a very short meeting of adults and Senior Patrol Leaders, Friday evening at 9:00 pm. This will be an important meeting, as we will review the program and rules for the weekend. Campfire Program A campfire program of songs, skits, and awards, will bring the weekend activities to a close on Saturday night. All troops are required to participate by putting on a skit or leading a song. Camporee Traveling Trophy The Camporee Traveling Trophy will be awarded during the Saturday evening campfire. Check-Out Time for check-out will be from 8:00-11:00 am on Sunday. Your troop site has to be checked-out by a Camporee Staff member BEFORE you leave. All troops must be checked out by 11 am. Scout Spirit Bring and display your troop and patrol flags. A Scout is Courteous Remember this part of the Scout Law! Stay out of other troop campsites, unless invited or given permission to enter. Show respect to others by being in your campsite and quiet from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am the next morning. We ask that no radios be brought to District Camporees. Questions? 8 PROGRAM Raft Race: The raft race will be divided into 2 classes: Man-Made Natural Examples of the materials that qualify for the above classes are listed below. Keep in mind that these are only examples, other materials can be used. The only method that is not acceptable for building a raft is welding. A reminder that canoes are not allowed in the raft race, even if they are home made. Boats, or any boat parts are not allowed to be used. All judges decisions on material acceptability are final. Patrols are required to bring all their own materials, as none will be provided. Rafts must be built between 9 am and 12 pm on Saturday. No work will be allowed before 9 am, other than gathering the materials, and cutting to length. No hands-on adult help will be allowed will be allowed during the raft building. A Maximum of 6 members per team will be allowed to build the raft. A minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 will be allowed to race the raft. All members must stay on the raft. If a team member falls off the raft, the raft cannot continue forward until that member is back on the raft. Members that fall off are allowed to touch the bottom of the lake; however they are not allowed to pull or push the raft. All members who start the race must cross the finish line on the raft. The raft must be propelled using only paddles, poles or kicking. (Man-power). Any rafts powered by a means other than paddles, poles or kicking will be disqualified. The only exception to this rule is a sail. If you feel it would help your raft, a sail can be added. Rafts should be built for durability, as the race will be done in heats. Heat winners may end up racing many times. The troop number and patrol name must be present on the raft and visible during the race. A Coast Guard approved personal floatation device (PFD) must be worn at all time while the rafts are on the lake and each raft must have at least one certified swimmer on board. A patrol cannot participate in the raft race without PFDs. Teams should bring their own PFDs as none will be provided. Note: Boat cushions are not acceptable as PFDs. First, Second, and Third place trophies will be awarded for the fastest rafts in both the Natural & the Man-Made Class. Six other trophies will also be awarded. (The names of the awards will be disclosed at the evening campfire on Saturday). The Guide to Safe Scouting guidelines on tool use and safety must be followed at all times during raft construction! 9 Stew Cooking Competition: A stew competition will be held on Saturday at dinner. Anyone interested in entering (youth or adult) must register ahead of time. The stew should be cooked in your site, and must be brought to the designated location at 6:00 pm to be judged. Entrants will receive a bowl to fill with stew and bring for judging. Prizes will be awarded for the top 2 stew recipes in each division (Youth and Adult). Stews will be judged on presentation, ingredients, taste and looks. Please have a name for your stew and have a copy of your recipe to leave for the judging. Service Project: The Wausau/Marathon County Park Department is working on putting together a service project. Details will be provided as soon as they are available. Patrol Flag Competition: Patrol flags will be judged from 9 am to 11:30 am in the designated area. Each patrol will have 3 minutes to present their flag to the judges. During this time the Patrol Leader will explain their flag. The entire patrol must be present for the flag judging. The flag must be on a pole and be either free standing or have a stand. Only the flag and pole will be judged, not the stand. Patrols interested in having their flags judged must sign up so we have an idea of how many patrols there will be. The flags will be judged on the following items: Presentation by the Patrol Leader Appearance Use of Material (Color, Proper Knots, etc) Scout Theme Troop/Patrol Identification Individual Patrol Member s Names Other Embellishments Kite-Flying: Weather permitting, an area will be set aside for kite flying Saturday afternoon. Kites should be made ahead of time. Anyone interested in entering a kite for judging may do so. Kites will be judged in two classes (kit and homemade). Those interested in having their kites judged must sign up so we have an idea of how many there will be. Awards will be presented for the best kites. No responsibility will be taken for lost or damaged kites.
