1 MI Choice Waiver Program and Waiver Agents The MI Choice Waiver Program began in 1992 as the Home and Community Based Services for the Elderly and Disabled (HCBS/ED) waiver program run by Michigan Medicaid. This program is now know as the MI Choice Waiver Program, or simply, "the waiver." Through this program, eligible adults who meet income and asset criteria can receive Medicaid-covered services like those provided by nursing homes, but can stay in their own home or another residential setting including licensed assisted living facilities known as Adult Foster Care or Homes for the Aged. The waiver became available in all Michigan counties October 1, 1998 and licensed residential setting on July 1, Each community has at least one Waiver Agent responsible for administering the MI Choice Waiver Program. To identify the Waiver Agents in your community refer to the map below and the list of Agents by region.
