1 6060 Spine Road Boulder, CO USA T F Replacing the Flow Switch on Sievers 900 and 5310 C Series TOC Analyzers 1. Purpose: To replace the flow switch in Sievers* 900 and 5310 C Series TOC Analyzers equipped with a Standard ios. 2. Scope: This procedure applies to all current Sievers 900 and 5310 C Series TOC Analyzer configurations that include a Standard ios. Note: The ios on your Analyzer may look slightly different than the ios shown in the figures below. Such differences do not affect these instructions. 3. Safety: This procedure should be performed by personnel skilled in the maintenance of electromechanical instruments. 4. Materials: Flow switch replacement kit 1/4" open-end wrench 9/16" open-end wrench Phillips screwdriver 5/64" Allen wrench Small flathead screwdriver 5. Procedure: 5.1 If the Analyzer is taking measurements press the Stop Analysis button. 5.2 Insert a USB flash memory drive into the port labeled USB on the side of the Analyzer and back up the current Analyzer settings (Maintenance Advanced USB I/O Save System). For more information, see the section called Saving System Settings in the Analyzer s Operation and Maintenance Manual. 5.3 Remove the USB flash memory drive from the USB port and store it in a safe place. 5.4 If your Analyzer is currently equipped with a standard ios, slide open the door of the ios System for draining. Wait 30 seconds before proceeding. 5.5 Turn off power to the Analyzer. Also shut off the circuit breaker for the Analyzer. 5.6 Disable the flow of water to the Analyzer. 5.7 Open the Analyzer case. 2 5.8 Remove the ios from the Analyzer: Loosen the flow switch cable connector at the Analyzer bulkhead (see Figure 1 ). Figure 1 The External Connector for the Flow Switch Cable (900 Portable Shown) Remove the terminal block from the interconnect board by pulling the terminal block straight out from the board. Remove the flow switch wires from pins 1 and 2 by loosening the two screws and then pulling the wires free of the terminal block (see Figure 3 for the 900 Portable and Figure 3 for the 900 and 5310 C On-Line) Pull the flow switch wires through the pass-through port on the bulkhead and out of the Analyzer. 3 Figure 3 Location of the Terminal Block on 900 and 5310 C On-Line Analyzers Disconnect the waste line from the ios System Using a 9/16" open-end wrench, disconnect the sample inlet line from the ios System Using a 1/4" open-end wrench, disconnect the two Valco fittings located next to the ios System, labeled Sample Inlet and Waste Outlet. Refer to Figure 4 (note that the exact location of the fittings on your Analyzer may differ from the photo). Figure 4 Valco Connections on the Bulkhead Loosen and remove the three Allen screws and the three aluminum standoffs that secure the ios System to the Analyzer. 5.9 Remove the old flow switch by loosening the two Phillips screws (refer to the parts labeled 1 and 2 in Figure 5) If you are replacing the magnet, follow these steps: Remove the ios lid by loosening the three Allen screws with a 5/64 in. 4 Figure 5 Removing the Flow Switch and ios Lid Remove the magnet chamber cap by gently prying off the cap with a small screwdriver (see Figure 6) Slide the magnet out of the chamber (see Figure 7). 5 5.11 Remove the new flow switch and magnet from the packaging If you are replacing the magnet, follow these steps: Slide the new magnet into the chamber on the ios. Position the magnet so that the thicker end of the magnet is pointed up (see Figure 8) Slide the magnet chamber cap into place Secure the ios lid by tightening the three Allen screws. Figure 8 Orientation of Magnet 5.13 Secure the new flow sensor by tightening the two Phillips screws. Make sure to position the sensor as shown in Figure Reconnect the ios to the Analyzer Tighten the three Allen screws to secure the ios System to the standoffs and the Analyzer Attach the Valco fittings to the Sample Inlet and Waste ports. Tighten the Valco fittings onequarter turn past finger-tight with the 1/4" open-end wrench. Do not over-tighten the nuts Attach the sample inlet line to the bottom of the ios System. Tighten the fitting one-quarter turn past finger-tight with the 9/16" open-end wrench. Do not over-tighten the nut Reattach the 3/4" waste line to the bottom of the ios System by sliding the tubing over the barb fitting. Tighten the hose clamp Route the flow switch wires into the Analyzer and connect the to pins 1 and 2 on the terminal block Tighten the flow switch cable connector at the Analyzer bulkhead Close the Analyzer case Restore power to the Analyzer Return the Analyzer to normal operation. *Trademark of General Electric Company; may be registered in one or more countries.
