2 Elwis Lighting Innovators in lighting Elwis produced the world s first working fluorescent hand lamp in Up until that point, hand lamps were cumbersome, fragile and posed serious risks to users and facilities due to the high risk of fire. By using fluorescent tubes, the temperature could be kept at safe levels, whilst making the lamp more durable and more energy efficient. Elwis s first two fluorescent hand lamps were constructed in rugged casings that could withstand being run over by a small vehicle. They were also waterproof.
