1 Stitching Memories Classes June-Aug 2016 Please call Stitching Memories at to register today!! Class Fees and Policies Payment of class fee is required at the time of class registration. Please note that class fees are NON-Refundable, unless the class is cancelled by the teacher. Our class prices are based on the student purchasing yarn at our store and receiving a 10% discount on all class supplies. Class fees are as follows unless otherwise noted in the class schedule. We ask that you call if you are unable to make your class. 1-week class is $ materials 2-week class is $ materials 3-week class is $ materials 4-week class is $ materials In-Store Private Lessons Private lessons are available for crochet, knitting and weaving. These run $25 for each 1½ hr session. Call us and we ll have an instructor contact you to set up a convenient time at the store. This is a great way to get the information and assistance that you need. Additional Services In-store felting: We will felt your finished knits for you for $20. Finishing: Need your needlework finished? Need a lining sewn into your knitted bags? We have a finisher who is great with needle and thread or a sewing machine if the job calls for it. 2 All Level Knitting/Crochet Projects NEW Drop In Class for Knit/Crochet Thursday afternoons: 2-4pm starting June 2. Need help with a knitting or crochet project? Taken a class from Dawn but you haven t finished the project and you need some help? Want to learn to knit or crochet and the beginner class times don t work for you? Drop in on Thursday afternoons and Dawn will be available to assist you. Cost is $15 per session or you can save by purchasing several sessions in advance. You do not need to attend consecutive weeks. Teacher: Dawn Friske U Pick It, U Knit It! On Tuesday evenings, 6-8 pm, you can learn to do a new project or ask for help on a specific project. Class is $15 per session or you can save by purchasing several sessions. You do not need to attend consecutive weeks. Teacher: Mary Verlager U Pick It, U Knit It/U Crochet It! MONDAYS: 10am Noon These classes allow you to choose any project. Can t make one of our evening classes? This class is a great alternative. Knit/crochet a sweater, knit/crochet socks, knit/crochet whatever you want! Need help on a specific project or finishing up a difficult one? You can come for only the help you need. Class is $15 a session or you can save by purchasing several sessions as a bundle. Teacher: Kelsey Schill Beginner Knitting Beginning Basics I A one night class on beginning knitting basics. Learn to cast-on, knit, purl and cast-off. We will also learn to do ribbing and moss stitch. We suggest that if you are a brand new knitter, that you take Beginning Basics I & II. 3 Advanced Beginner Knitting (must know the basics of knitting) Building Blocks Improve your knitting skills one square at a time! The Building Block Series is designed to help knitters navigate through the major knitting stills, techniques and principles. Each of the 12 patterns isolates a new skill. In a carefully designed sequential approach, knitters master each technique before moving on to a more advanced concept. Every pattern in Building Blocks focuses on development of a skill while knitting a lovely square... At the completion of the series, the reward is an abundance of knitting know-how along with 12 gorgeous blocks to assemble into a sampler afghan. What you will learn: How to read patterns Cast on and Long tail cast on How to use life lines How to read charts Yarn Overs and Bobbles Simple decreases Cables Right Twist Mock Cable Slip Stitch Left Twist SSK Make One Advanced Decreases Blocking Horizontal Seams Vertical Seams Weaving in Ends Materials: Building Blocks book, 10 Skeins of a solid color, or 12 skeins of multi-color. U.S. Size 10, 24 circular needle. (Straight needles are an option but can get a bit crowded on the needles), cable needle, tapestry needle; optional items, stitch markers, counter, sticky notes. Cost: We offer two payment options: Per class or monthly. Per class cost is $15.00 and the monthly option is $ Choosing the monthly options reflects a savings of $45.00 over the course of the six months. Materials are not included in the class cost. 4 Cool Hemp Ponchette An easy rectangular shape magically turns into a really cool ponchette. Wear it over your shoulders or slung low on the hips for the new trendy fashion statement. This is a great summer piece to chase off the cool of office air conditioning or a summer evening. See model in store. Materials: Pattern - #409 Cool Hemp Ponchette (available from Ravelry for in-store purchase); yds. Hemp/linen yarn (DK weight); US size 8 needles; stitch markers. Cost: $ materials Mondays 6-8pm June 6 & 27 Teacher: Dawn The Hole Story Knit a gorgeous shawl that features a new yarn from HiKoo Rylie. This luxurious yarn is a blend of baby alpaca, mulberry silk, and linen. This shawl is a great beginning lace project. See model in store. Materials: Pattern from Ravelry and 2 skeins of Rylie yarn, size 7 32 circular needles Cost: $ materials Mondays 6-8pm June 6 & 13 Teacher: Ann Knitting Pattern Reading Do knitting patterns seem like a foreign language to you? In this one night class we will explore the ins and outs of knitting terms, abbreviations and general pattern verbiage. Handouts will be provided. Cost: $15 Monday 6-8pm June 13 Teacher: Dawn Knitting 101 The Secrets of Gauge In this one night class we will discuss knitting a gauge swatch, how to measure it, how to adjust to get gauge, what to do if you can t get gauge and lots more. Bring a calculator & pencil to class. There is no knitting. Prior to class: using worsted weight yarn and US size 8 needles, cast on 60 stitches and knit in stockinette (knit one row, purl one row, repeat) for a total of 60 rows. Bind off and bring completed swatch to class. Materials: There is no knitting in this class. Bring a pen/pencil and a calculator to class. 5 Color Affection Shawl More garter stich and stripes to love. Choose your favorite colors, yarn weight (lace or fingering) and cast on for this shawl that will warm your shoulders and a bit more. Made with three contrasting colors and short rows. See model in store. Materials: Pattern from Ravelry, 1200 yds lace/fingering weight yarn, US size 8 32 circular needles Cost: $ materials Mondays 6-8pm June 20 & 27 Teacher: Ann Kumihimo Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braiding. Kumi himo is Japanese for gathered thread. This simple technique is quick and easy to learn. You can braid from 8 to 24 threads into a cord or flat ribbon. In this class we will learn how to create a cord that can be made into a bracelet. We will be adding beads to the braid as well. Once you have learned the technique, you will be able to make bracelets, necklaces, keychains, lanyards, purse handles, and embellishments for your knitting. Let your imagination run wild! Materials: Kumihimo kit Cost: $15.00 Monday 6-8pm July 11 Teacher: Dawn Band Heel for Socks Tired of knitting the same old heel flap on your socks? Are you unhappy with how your gussets look? Maybe you just want to learn a new technique for making sock heels. Whatever your reason, come learn how to make a band heel that you can substitute in any sock pattern. No picking up stitches and no decreasing. A fun heel to knit! The pattern also features a French toe that does not require the Kitchener stitch. Materials: Knitamazoo Band Heel Ankle Sock pattern (available on Ravelry for in-store purchase); 2 24 size 2 circulars for the 2 circ method or 1 40 size 2 circular for magic loop; 100g fingering weight yarn Cost: $25 + materials Monday 6-8pm July 18 & 25 Teacher: Dawn Mash Up Socks This customizable pattern is a basic recipe to make great fitting to-up socks for any size foot and with any weight yarn knitting two socks at a time, using magic loop technique, and featuring a gusset and heel flap with Eye of Partridge stitch. 6 Socks 2-at-a-time Magic Loop Do you suffer from second sock syndrome? Do you just want to finish both socks at the same time? Join us for this class and learn how to knit both socks at the same time using the magic loop method. Materials: Knitamazoo My First 2-at-a-time Socks pattern (available on Ravelry for in-store purchase); 400 yds worsted weight yarn & US size 6 circular needle at least 47 long. If you have knit socks before and would like to use fingering weight yarn, use 100g of fingering weight yarn, a size 2 circular at least 40 long and the Knitamazoo 2-at-a-time pattern for fingering weight (Ravelry in-store purchase) Cost: $35 + materials Mondays 6-8pm Aug. 15, 22 & 29 Teacher: Dawn Dirty Martini Sweater Dirty Martini is a very easy, comfortable, seamless, open cardigan which is mostly worked flat from the top down, with basic raglan sleeves. The cardigan features an easy colorwork pattern for lower body, striped sleeves, waist shaping and short row shaping for the back neck, right and left front. Great time to get started before the cold weather starts. 7 Crochet Classes Crochet classes may be scheduled on a one-on-one basis. Please contact the shop to be connected with our crochet teacher for any of your crochet needs. Class ideas: crochet for knitters; crochet finishing techniques; hair pin lace scarf; crochet w/cotton thread; granny squares; chunky socks; tweed tote bag; tote bag crocheted from plastic bags; private lessons; Tunisian crochet/crochenit; crochet for kids; crocheted edges & finishes; crochet w/beads; felted crochet; afghans; help finishing crochet UFOs; shawls; socks/mittens/slippers; Martha s prison poncho or advanced crochet. For knitters or crocheters, Kelsey offers a fitting Queen size class to fit and flatter the plus size person. Lock-Ins Need a night out from your family? Do you crave a few hours of uninterrupted knitting or stitching time and some spicy conversation? Then this is the night for you! We will lock-in from 6-10pm. The cost - $0, unless you opt to go in with the group and order out (to be decided by the group). Bring a snack to share if you like (CHOCOLATE is always welcome!!!) Lock-ins are usually held the SECOND Friday of the month (dates will be announced via the newsletter, Facebook and Ravelry).
