1 Company Name Your Name Stock Market Project Company Mission Statement Company Executive Members:

2 Learning Objectives: The students will be able to *define the purpose and structure of the stock market. *explain the benefits and draw backs that exist when a company allows investors to purchase stocks. *differentiate between a bull and bear market. *outline the benefits and draw backs of participating in stock market activities. *use advertising techniques to persuade peers to use their company by applying basic advertising techniques using technology into a multimedia presentation (PowerPoint Presentation, Video Commercial, ect.). Project Timeline and Assignment Due Dates Thurs., April 16 Intro to Stock Market Investment Competition For this activity you will serve as the Executive Board members for a stock investment company. Your first task is to come up with (1) a unique Company Name, (2) write a Mission Statement, and (3) make an Initial Investment into the stock market as a company. (All aspects of your company must be school appropriate!) Initial Stock Investments: you ve been given $500 of Mr. Goto s money to invest in local businesses. Your goal today is to find multiple stocks to invest in (D-- - P-- A-- Y--- E--- I- O-- B-----!) not exceeding the total amount you have been given. You don t have to spend $500 exactly, but any money not used will go into a fund which Mr. Goto will use to buy Taco Bell with on the way home. So you have to invest as much as you can today or it will go towards other expenditures! Initial Investment Company Name Symbol Stock Value # of Shares Total Spent EX. Goto Island Resort Co. GIR x 9 = localstocks.asp?siteid=azcentral&sortcol=3&sortdir=1&groupidx=1 Total Spent: (not exceed $500) We will be focusing on Stocks of Arizona Interest using the following site: Each week you are required to research two of your stocks to see what current news is circulating the company so that you have an idea of whether or not they are worth your money.

3 Tues., April 21 - Stock Market Update and Weekly Reflection Stock Market Activity: You will receive 20 minutes of class for your company to sell, trade, or purchase new stock to invest in. All transactions are public as nothing will take place behind closed doors. Remember that all decisions must be made as a group. The chart at the end of this packet will need to be updated during this time as well to reflect changes in stock options as well as gains and loses. (Remember for this stage you are not given another $500 to invest, you can only work with the money you have already invested or gained from the previous week.) For full points you must make at least two changes to your portfolio. In order to get new money to make purchases, you must sell the stocks that you have already invested in. This is the only way to free up money for new ventures. When buying out you must use the current value, not the previous week s. (If you are lucky you will have made money, but if you lose and you chose to buy out, it is money lost.) It is also important that on these days you also complete your Weekly Reflections as they will be randomly called on to check records. Don t let your group suffer because you slipped up on your paper work. Thurs., April 23 rd - Stock Market Update and Weekly Reflection Tues., April 28 th Stock Market Update and Weekly Reflection Fri., May 1 st Stock Market Update and Weekly Reflection Mon./Tues., May 4 th and 5 th Advertising Work Days How did your company make trading decisions? What stocks did you purchase? How much did you make? What caused your stocks to fluctuate or maintain? (include a chart/graph) How much do you think you should charge for your services? Why should a person use your services over others? This information can be presented through a live presentation with video or it can be through live presentation with a PowerPoint as an aid. Either way, your data must be reflected in the presentation. It is a rubric based requirement to dress the part! Wed., May 6 th Advertising Sales Pitch (Presentations) Each group will have the opportunity of selling their company to the class using the presentation that they created. The group who is able to persuade the class to their business will receive an automatic 100% on this project grade, no questions asked! PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED RUBRIC FOR REQUIRED ATTIRE AND PRESENTATION CONTENT! Fri., May 8 th Top Two Groups Compete for Mr. Goto s account and 100%!

8 Now its time to collect your data for your group s presentation! Some sample data to include How much did you lose/make? Did you make any decisions that seemed to pay off? Did you make any decisions that didn t work out? Based on your experience, what makes you confident you would do well with another person s money? Remember to include some sort of chart of graph illustrating your progress.

If you lost, you may consider taking a loss by dropping the stock and finding a new investment Selling/Acquiring New Stocks Remember that when buying out one of your stocks, you must use the recent value, not the value from the previous week. You can then use that money to be reinvested elsewhere. If you end up with a few dollars that are not spent, put it at the bottom of your chart and add it to your total sum. It may be spent the following week. Left over money Total Value: Sum of all stocks
