7 1.0 Introduction This program directory is intended for the system programmer responsible for program installation and maintenance. It contains information concerning the material and procedures associated with the installation of IBM Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. You should read all of this program directory before installing the program and then keep it for future reference. This program directory lists all of the materials you will receive with Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. However, the installation instructions for each of the component products are found in their respective program directories or installation manuals. Although the installation instructions are not included in this program directory, it lists all materials that you will receive, as well as all known hardware and software requisites for the components of Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. You should read up to 5..3, Program Installation and Service Considerations on page to understand the components and requirements. The program directory contains the following sections:.0, Program Materials on page 6 identifies the basic and optional program materials and documentation for Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. 3.0, Program Support on page 18 describes the IBM support available for Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. 4.0, Program and Service Level Information on page 19 lists the APARs (program level) and PTFs (service level) incorporated into Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. 5.0, Installation Requirements and Considerations on page 1 identifies the resources and considerations for installing and using Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. 6.0, Installation Instructions on page 31. 8 1.1 Program Description The IBM Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux consists of the following products: IBM Wave for z/vm IBM Wave for z/vm is a provisioning and productivity management solution for managing both Linux servers and z/vm. IBM Wave for z/vm provides a totally new and fresh approach to the task of managing one or multiple physical servers (IBM's System z Enterprise class servers). Each of these servers can be configured with one or more z/vm instances that can run literally thousands of virtual Linux servers each. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition is a client/server program that provides storage management solutions to customers in a multi-vendor computer environment. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition provides an automated, centrally scheduled, policy-managed backup, archive, and space-management facility for file servers and workstations. Components of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition include: 1. Server The server program provides backup, archive, and space management services to the clients. You can set up multiple servers in your enterprise network to balance storage, processor, and network resources.. Administrative Interface The administrative interface allows administrators to control and monitor server activities, define management policies for clients, and set up schedules to provide services to clients at regular intervals. Administrative interfaces include a command-line administrative client and a web-based interface that is called the Operations Center. With IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition you can manage and control multiple servers from a single interface that runs in a web browser. 3. Server database and recovery log The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition server uses a database to track information about server storage, clients, client data, policy, and schedules. The server uses the recovery log as a scratch pad for the database, recording information about client and server actions while the actions are being performed. 4. Server Storage The server can write data to hard disk drives, disk arrays and subsystems, stand-alone tape drives, tape libraries, and other forms of random-access and sequential-access storage. The media that the server uses are grouped into storage pools. The storage devices can be connected directly to the server, or connected through a local area network (LAN) or a storage area network (SAN). 9 5. Client Nodes A client node can be a workstation, a personal computer, a file server, or even another IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition. The client node has IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition client software that is installed and is registered with the server. Network-attached storage (NAS) file servers can also be client nodes, but when you use NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol), they do not have IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition client software installed. 6. Backup-archive Client The backup-archive client allows users to maintain backup versions of files, which they can restore if the original files are lost or damaged. Users can also archive files for long-term storage and retrieve the archived files when necessary. Users themselves or administrators can register workstations and file servers as client nodes with a Tivoli Storage Manager server. The storage agent is an optional component that can also be installed on the same system as the client node. The storage agent enables LAN-free data movement for client operations and is supported on a number of operating systems. 7. Network-attached storage file server (by using NDMP) The server can use the NDMP to back up and restore file systems that are stored on a network-attached storage (NAS) file server. The data on the NAS file server is backed up to a tape library. The Tivoli Storage Manager software does not need to be installed on the NAS file server. A NAS file server can also be backed up over the LAN to a IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition server. Application Client Application clients allow users to initiate online backups of data for applications such as database programs. After the application program initiates a backup or restore, the application client acts as the interface to IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition. The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition server then applies its storage management functions to the data. The application client can initiate its functions while application users are working, with minimal disruption. The following products provide application clients for use with the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition: Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases Tivoli Storage Manager for Enterprise Resource Planning Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail 9. Application Manager Interface The API can help you to enhance existing applications to use the backup, archive, restore, and retrieve services that IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition provides. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition API clients can register as client nodes with a IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition server. Introduction 3

10 10. Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition for Space Management provides space management services for workstations on some operating systems. The space management function is essentially a more automated version of archive. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition for Space Management automatically migrates files that are less frequently used to server storage, freeing space on the workstation. The migrated files are also called space-managed files. Users can recall space-managed files automatically by accessing them as they normally would from the workstation. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition for Space Management is also known as the space manager client, or the hierarchical storage management (HSM) client. IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux provides comprehensive information about the z/vm operating system, its resources, and the workloads. Information on Linux instances running as z/vm guests and the Linux workload are targeted so the user sees how these instances and workloads of Linux are running and impacting z/vm. This offering requires z/vm version 5 release 4 or later to be the platform being monitored. IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux utilizes the data collection from Performance Toolkit for VM. Performance Toolkit for VM is a prerequisite because it is the basic foundation for gathering z/vm metrics and has proven to be rich in information and provides the ideal base for z/vm data going into the OMEGAMON offering. The IBM Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux is built upon Tivoli Management Services and utilizes Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) which allows for all of TEP's alerting, actioning and integration capabilities to be leveraged with this information being provided. Functions provided: View workloads for virtual machines, response times and LPAR usage Includes historical reporting and trending analysis Has reports on z/vm and Linux usage of resources, for example, CPU utilization, storage, minidisks, minidisk cache, spin locks, and TCP/IP Has detailed reports on workloads of z/vm and the Linux instance workloads Manages z/vm and its Linux instances for a single point of control Provides the ability to identify, isolate, and correct problems between z/vm and Linux instances quickly Assists in optimizing the z/vm Linux environment as well as integrating this information with other IBM products that utilize TEP for a total view of your environment. Because IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux has parts that run on both z/vm and Linux it is packaged in multiple pieces. There are three parts and they are delivered in the following manner: 1. IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux, Performance Toolkit Extensions This part consists of a level of the z/vm Performance Toolkit containing extensions that allow it to format output data and place it in a DCSS where it can be retrieved by the IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux Agent. It also contains a tool to help you analyze your 4 Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux Program Directory

11 installation and decide how large of a DCSS you will need for your formatted output data. This piece is delivered as part of the z/vm operating system. Depending on your version of z/vm it may be necessary to install service to receive this support. Complete information can be found at the website: IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux Agent This is the z/vm agent that runs on a Linux guest. It will take the data gathered by the IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux, Performance Toolkit Extensions and deliver it to the Tivoli Enterprise Management Server (TEMS). It is delivered on a CD which also contains seeding files for the TEMS, the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS) and the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP). For instructions on installing and servicing this piece, see the IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux: Planning and Configuration Guide. Note: If you have not previously installed IBM Tivoli Monitoring Services at your installation, there are CDs containing the product and documentation included in this package. 3. IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux, Command Processor This is the Command Processor portion of the product. It is installed and runs on your z/vm system. The IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux Program Directory will provide instructions on how to install and service the Command Processor. IBM Operations Manager for z/vm IBM Operations Manager for z/vm helps improve the monitoring and management of z/vm virtual machines. By automating routine maintenance tasks and automatically responding to predictable situations that require intervention, IBM Operations Manager for z/vm allows z/vm system programmers and administrators to focus on more critical tasks. IBM Backup and Restore Manager for z/vm IBM Backup and Restore Manager for z/vm provides z/vm system administrators and operators the ability to efficiently and effectively backup and restore files and data on z/vm systems. Source files and data can be CMS and non-cms format and the target media can be DASD or tape. IBM Backup and Restore Manager for z/vm's full flexibility is apparent in its ability to do full physical and logical backup and restore operations with support for inclusion and exclusion of files, user IDs, and so on. The program announcement material describes the features supported by Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. Along with listing general installation considerations, this section will also provide a combined table of DASD and User ID requirements for all of the products in Infrastructure Suite for z/vm and Linux. This will enable you to plan out and make all the z/vm directory changes at once. VMSES/E is required to install and service all parts that are installed on z/vm. 29 IBM Backup and Restore Manager for z/vm These tables will assume that you are using the IBM suggested user IDs for installation. You are free to change these to any user IDs; however, a PPF override must be created. Note: It may be easier to make the above PPF override change during the installation procedure, rather than after you installed a product. Each Program Directory has directions on how to create a PPF override. 5.3 DASD Storage and User ID Requirements Figure 6, Figure 7 on page 4 and Figure 8 on page 7 list the user IDs, minidisks and default SFS directory names that are used to install and service IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/vm and Linux, IBM Operations Manager for z/vm and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition, respectively. Important Installation Notes: User IDs and minidisks or SFS directories will be defined during the installation procedure for each product. They are listed here so that you can get an idea of the resources that you will need prior to allocating them. The user IDs listed are default user IDs and can be changed.
