2 What are the regulations in Europe? For news lifts: Directive 95/16/CE Annex 1: Essential safety and health requirements relating to the design and construction of lifts and safety components. Communication with a rescue service 4.5 Car must be fitted with two-way means of communication allowing permanent contact with a rescue service EN give presomption of conformity for this statement Access to the lift car for disabled people 1.2 «.. 3 What are the regulations in Europe? For existing lifts EN81-80 «Rules for the improvement of safety of existing passenger and goods passenger lifts This norm is not mandatory, application depends of the risk taken into account in each country and of the accessibility regulation applicable In France for example a two-way means of communication must be fitted on all lifts in service before 3/7/2013, in most of the installations due to a complementary regulation for accessibility this device must be accessible for alls EN and EN are used as reference

4 Accessibility of lifts The problem of access to lifts should be studied as an accessibility for all : aged people, handicapped people, pregnant women, with young children

5 Objectives of the EN Make easier the use of the lift for all users with or without disability. The requirements should minimize the handicap due to people s disabilities, without constrain for the others. Allow the use of all lifts by disabled people without particular device or assistant (no discrimination)

14 Signalisation of the alarm device The minimum marking in the car shall include Indication that the car is equipped with an alarm system and linked with a rescue service; Note: Pictograms may be used. The alarm initiating device, e.g. Button of the alarm switch, touch screen etc. Shall be yellow in colour and identified by the symbol:

15 Signalisation of the alarm device A yellow illuminated pictogram in addition to the audible signal for the emergency alarm transmission to indicate that the alarm has been given A green illuminated pictogram in addition to the audible signal normally required (voice link), to indicate that the emergency alarm/call has been registered (adjustable 35dB (A) 65 db(a) An aid to communication (induction loop) for people with impaired hearing (negotiations)
