2 About Lisbon Lisbon is Europe s second oldest capital. It s known as the hilly capital and coastal city recognized for its laidback café culture and soulful Fado music. It has a population of around 2.7 million people. It is located at the mouth of the Tagus River and is the westernmost capital of a mainland European country. Getting around Lisbon Ride the city's metro, buses, and trams for FREE with the Lisboa Card. Of course, taxis are also a fast way to reach the city centre. They are lined up outside the terminals,

4 and even with luggage, it should cost you between 10 and 15 Euros. Be sure to ask for a receipt. As of July 2012 a Metro (underground) station at the airport on the red line quickly takes you to the centre of the city, passing by Oriente Station for train connections to other parts of Portugal. The line then continues towards the final station of São Sebastião in about 20 minutes. Several buses also stop right outside the arrivals terminal, and if you don't have large luggage, you can take bus 744 that runs past the major avenues uptown and ends up in the old city centre. Those with lots of luggage should perhaps take the AeroBus which runs between the airport and the city centre. A ticket may be purchased directly from the driver and currently stands at They run every 20 or 30 minutes and stop at important points in the city such as Entrecampos, Campo Pequeno, Avenida da Republica, Saldanha, Picoas, Fontes Pereira Melo, Marquês de Pombal, Avenida da Libertade, Restauradores, Rossio, Praça do Comercio and Cais do Sodré. On board, there are screens showing each stop as the bus approaches the area. This hotel has a restaurant, outdoor pool and fitness centre available. 2. Praia Mar a. Transfer will be supplied to and from the National Stadium. b. It offers panoramic ocean views facing the charming sandy beach on the Estoril Coast. About the ground The grounds are made up of 2 national rugby pitches and the National Portuguese Soccer training pitch. Due to the extreme price of hire of these pitches, no official training pitches will be available. It is recommended to simply find some unofficial green space if you wish to conduct training before Euro Cup. 5 Although the warmer weather starts to decline in Portugal during October we ll still see an average of 19 degrees Celsius. Sunrise gets close to 8am and sets at 6:30pm. The average sea temperature is also about 19 degrees Celsius. Basic Portuguese Words English Portuguese Pronunciation/Notes Hello Olá Olah This is quite an informal greeting. How are you? (formal) Como está? Komu eshta? You often say things differently depending on whether you are speaking formally or informally. Speak formally to people you meet for the first time, people older than you, or as a general sign of respect. How are you? (informal) Como estás? Komu eshtazh? This is the informal variation, which is only used with people you know well, family members, children, or people significantly younger than yourself. I m OK, thank you. Estou bem, obrigado/a Eshtoh baym[ng], Obrigahdu/a lit. I am well, thank you. This is perhaps the most common response to the above question. For thank you, men say obrigado, women say obrigada (regardless of whether the person they are talking to is male or female). More on this later. I am fine Is everything OK? Estou ó[p]timo/a Tudo bem? Eshtoh ohtimu/a note that the p in optimo (fine) is virtually silent (the Brazilian spelling, without a p, was adopted in the Portuguese orthographic agreement, so technically it should be omitted when writing). Note: This is probably the most common greeting in Portuguese - it is used much more frequently than como está? (this is true in Portugal, despite it being a Brazilian expression). The Eligibility Criteria are based upon those in force at the AFL International Cup. In the absence of any specific Rule, the Laws of Australian Football (Europe) shall apply. A. Submission of Squad List to AFL Europe In all cases, teams must lodge a completed Squad List to AFL Europe no later than fourteen (14) days before the date of the first match of the tournament. This list shall be accompanied by appropriate documentation (such as bona fide information) for local players, relevant evidence for exemptions and details of any support personnel. AFL Europe shall confirm whether the Squad List is approved or if further information is required. Until approval is received, the Squad List shall be deemed as not approved. B. Player Eligibility and Application for Exemption from the Eligibility Criteria To be eligible to play for a country (or as a non-australian at Champions League), a player must meet the Eligibility Criteria outlined in Appendix 1. To be eligible to play for a club at Champions League, a player must be duly registered to play for their club in accordance with that member league s by laws. A player may be deemed duly registered if their registration is for either the preceding or the upcoming season.

8 Exemptions to the Eligibility Criteria may be sought by application to AFL Europe. AFL Europe makes its determination on a case-by-case basis for teams who have not participated at International level in more than three (3) previous years. Applications for exemption must be made no less than twenty-eight (28) days before the date of the first match of the tournament to AFL Europe. AFL Europe shall confirm whether a player is exempted from the Eligibility Criteria or if further information is required. Until approval is received, the exemption shall be deemed as not approved. C. Drawn Matches If teams have scored equal points during the time allotted for a match, the match result shall: a. in the pool stages be a draw; b. in placing matches, semi-finals and quarter finals be determined by golden goal; and c. in finals be firstly determined by two (2) periods of five minutes each way of extra time and (where the teams remain on equal points), ultimately be determined by golden goal. D. Rules a. AFL Europe Champions League This tournament is held for Domestic teams and is a Reduced Format (9-a-side) competition. 1. Teams qualify for invitation to the Champions League by winning their domestic competition, where the domestic competition is based in Europe. 2. If the qualifying team declines the invitation, the runner-up will be invited and so-on. 3. The reigning Champions League winner will also be invited. If this team also won their domestic competition, clause 2 shall apply. 4. Matches will consist of two (2) halves of twelve (12) minutes each, with no time on. 5. Each side has up to nine (9) players on the playing surface and must have at least five (5) non-australians on at all times. Australian players will be identified by the use of coloured armbands. In addition to the provisions of Law 5.5 in the case of a player count, the score of a team found to have more than the permitted number of Australians on the playing surface shall be reset to zero (0). 6. Teams are allowed to bring squads of sixteen (16) players with up to six (6) on the bench. b. AFL Europe Championships This tournament is held for International teams and is a Full Format (18-a-side) competition. 1. All International teams from Europe are invited to take part in the AFL Europe Championships, which typically takes place a year before the AFL s showpiece International tournament, the International Cup. 2. Teams are allowed to bring a squad of thirty (30) players to the tournament with match day squads of twenty-four (24) permitted and eighteen (18) on the playing surface at any time Countries new to International tournaments are permitted to seek eligibility exemption for up to six (6) Australians as outlined in part B, if this is required for tournament participation. 4. Matches will consist of four (4) quarters of twenty (20) minutes with no time on. 5. Typically, the tournament runs for a week. Games are played on alternate days to ensure appropriate rest and recovery. c. AFL Europe Euro Cup

9 This tournament is held for International teams and is a Reduced Format (9-a-side) competition. 1. All International teams from Europe are invited to take part in the AFL Europe Euro Cup which is an annual tournament typically held in October. 2. Teams are allowed to bring squads of sixteen (16) players with nine (9) allowed on the playing surface at any one time and six (6) on the bench. 3. Countries new to International tournaments are permitted to seek eligibility exemption for up to three (3) Australians as outlined in part B, if this is required for tournament participation. 4. Matches will consist of two (2) halves of twelve (12) minutes each, with no time on. E. Expectations of Participants AFL Europe expects participants to behave in an appropriate manner during the tournament at large. This includes (but is not limited to) matches, functions, courses and any other associated activities. Non-inclusive behaviours are strongly discouraged. Australian Football in Europe is a sport played by humans, umpired by humans, coached by humans and watched by humans. AFL Europe expects all participants demonstrate a culture of respect as we are all prone to making mistakes. The umpire s decision is final. Field umpires shall have full control of the match. Boundary umpires may not be available. Goal umpires shall have sole responsibility for scoring decisions, with input from field umpires where relevant. Umpires are expected to umpire to the best of their ability with empathy, impartiality and decisiveness. They are expected to pay only the clear and warranted free kicks that they actually see. Players have a duty of care to their opponent and may use only reasonable force in the circumstances. Coaches and support staff are expected to lead their squad by example. A positive match day environment starts with the coach and the captain. Supporters are encouraged to be vocal but respectful and are expected to avoid making derogatory remarks about the opposition or umpires. Field managers will work closely with Tournament HQ to ensure the tournament runs smoothly. They will manage the logistical concerns for the field they are assigned to. This will include a stretcher, match timing and siren, recording match scores, votes submitted and a roster of teams and umpires. F. Investigations and Disciplinary Any matters arising from the tournament requiring further investigation or Law 19 matters requiring a tribunal hearing shall be heard by a panel duly appointed by AFL Europe in accordance with the Laws of Australian Football (Europe). The outcome of such hearings shall be final. Any participant found guilty of racial or sectarian vilification of any description will be suspended from the remainder of the tournament. G. Appendix

10 Eligibility Criteria enclosed. Aussie Rules Slang Ball! - usually yelled by spectators when an opposition player is tackled in possession of the ball. Short for "holding the ball" Ball sack - A term used by AFL Europe CEO, Megan Hession, when referring to the bag that AFL balls are carried in. Barrel - a "torpedo punt" kick. Centimetre perfect - a phrase commonly used by commentator Dennis Cometti to refer to a kick that could not have been placed any better. Don't argue - colloquial term for a stiff-arm fend Fat side - an imaginary area of the ground that indicates the greatest space occupied by the least number of players. Flood - the act of getting as many players as possible between the ball carrier and the goal a team is defending. Hospital Kick - a very high kick to a teammate, allowing opposition players to run in and crash into the person attempting to mark the kick. Jumper punch - where a player takes hold of an opponent's jersey and then pushes in a punching motion. Good pill/leg/hit - A low drop punt which hits the intended target as good as it possibly can. Prior opportunity - (sometimes shortened to prior) a player who has had the ball for long enough to make a reasonable attempt to dispose of it before being tackled is said to have had prior opportunity. This is important for holding the ball decisions, where a player who has had prior opportunity must dispose of the ball immediately, while a player who has had "no prior" has a few extra seconds to dispose of the ball. Red time - the final few minutes of playing time in any quarter. Sausage roll - rhyming slang for "goal" (also called a snag, from the Australian slang term for a sausage) Shirtfront - an aggressive front-on bump Smother - the act of stopping a kick immediately after it leaves the boot. Generally undertaken with the hands or body Specky - (or screamer, hanger; also spelt speccie, speckie, etc.) short for "spectacular mark". Generally, refers to the act of leaping onto another player's back or shoulders to take a high mark, usually in a contested situation.
