1 Directions Level: 1º/ 2º E.S.O. Grammar: Revision of present simple. There is /there are. Prepositions with means of transport. Functions: Describing places. Asking for and giving directions. Asking for general information. Vocabulary: Means of transport. Places in a city. Positive and negative adjectives. This unit deals with asking for and giving directions through a series of role plays and listening activities where the main character is situated in London. The structure of the unit is the following: PART 1 - The city 1. Calling home: This is a set of two activities: A: Listening exercise: Students listen to a dialogue between a dad and his daughter, who is staying in London. They can click on the pictures to listen to that part, or click on Run to listen to the whole dialogue. B: True or False: This is a comprehension exercise regarding the previous dialogue. They can listen to the dialogue again by clicking on Play. 2. Classify: This is a matching exercise for students to learn adjectives that express positive and negative characteristics. They must decide if the adjectives selected from the listening in this exercise are positive or negative by dragging them to the correct block of squares. 3. Vocabulary: In this exercise, students must decide in which category each of the words suggested goes by dragging it into the right group. They can get a description of what each thing is if they click on the Help button. 4. Match: Students listen to different items regarding a city and drag the sound icons under the matching pictures. 5. There is / there are: This is a set of consolidation exercises. Notice that each activity leads to the following one automatically when you give the correct answer. A: Complete the sentences: Students must choose there is or there are to fill the blanks in the sentences given. When they click on an option they will get feedback. B: Listen and choose an option: Now they must listen to a sentence and choose which the expression they can hear. As in the previous activity, they get feedback when they click an option. C: Fill in the gaps: Text completion using there is and there are.

2 PART 2 - Getting information 1. Dialogue: Listening exercise in which students hear a conversation that takes place at a Tourist Office. 2. Role Play: Students play the part of the girl in the dialogue they have just heard. They must record their sentences of the dialogue and then they can listen to themselves acting out the conversation with the man at the Tourist Office. If they want to listen to the original dialogue again, they can click on the music icon. They can move back and forth using the arrows under the picture. When they have finished all their recordings, they can listen to the complete dialogue by clicking on Run. 3. Gap Filling: This exercise is divided into two different activities: A: Here students must complete the dialogue by filling the words missing. They can listen to the dialogue again by clicking on the music icon. Notice that there are two screens, and remind your students that they can stop and repeat as many times as necessary using the audio bar under the picture. B: Another fill in the gaps exercise where students must recycle some of the words they have learned in the previous dialogue. 4. Match: Matching exercise in which students can read words regarding places in a city and drag them under their corresponding pictures. PART 3 - How to get to. 1. Dialogue: In this exercise, students must listen to the dialogue by clicking on the music icon. If they need extra help they may as well click on Text to read it. 2. Multiple Choice: This is a comprehension exercise in which students must choose the right answer for several questions regarding the previous dialogue. They will get feedback according to their answers. 3. Gap Filling: Students click on the pictures to listen to words with which they must fill in gaps in several sentences regarding means of transport. 4. Match: Matching exercise where students see and listen to vocabulary regarding means of transport and they have to drag the illustrations to the squares with the words below. 5. Role Play: In this final exercise, students must, first, listen to the previous dialogue again (they click on the music icon and the sound bar will appear), then record the part of the girl in the dialogue. When they have recorded a sentence, they can listen to it with the Play button. They can record a sentence as many times as they want until they feel satisfied with the result. When they have finished all their recordings, they can listen to the complete dialogue by clicking on Run. They can move back and forth using the arrows under the picture. As a suggestion, they should open the sound bar with the original dialogue, and keep it on the screen so that they can compare their pronunciation any time.

But it's busy and noisy and expensive. There are people, cars and buses everywhere! It's very crowded. Dad: Oh well, take care, Julia, and ring me tomorrow! Julia: Ok, bye! 4. Match: bus, statue, church, shop. 5. There is / there are B. Listen and choose an option: 1. There s an old tower, the Tower of Adventures. 2. There are many people watching the match. 3.
