1 AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Minimum Venue & Hosting Requirements AHL A minimum of x1 competition field of play of a FIH standard where the turf carpet must be of an unfilled type which requires watering with a certificate of compliance issued by one of the FIH accredited laboratories dated within the last two years pre-ceding the event date and meets the requirements of FIH National Performance Criteria in Laboratory Testing. FIH Global certified surfaces would be considered favourably. Synthetic Grass Hockey Surface AC A minimum of one pitch for AC with 8 teams or less, or a minimum of two pitches for AC with 8+ teams. The surfaces are to be a FIH standard where the turf carpet must be of an unfilled type which requires watering and need to meet the requirements of FIH National Performance Criteria in Laboratory Testing, with a certificate of compliance issued by one of the FIH accredited laboratories dated within the last two years pre-ceding the event date. A long pile surface that is classified as multi-sport and meets FIFA 1 star requirements is, at this point, not acceptable. Nor is a surface that utilises infill material in addition to or in replacement of silica sand. AHL Seating to accommodate a minimum of 500 people and undercover seating for approx. 150 people to accommodate VIP guests, invited officials and national selectors. Other grassed mound areas that are in a high quality condition that permit a large number of general admission spectators to view the hockey uninterrupted. Further temporary seating available should it be required for finals weekends. Seating A corporate lounge to accommodate these guests in an official function capacity. AC Seating for approx. 100 people, and a clubhouse / undercover seating for approx. 50 people to accommodate VIP guests, invited officials and national selectors. Other grassed mound areas that are in a high quality condition that permit a large number of general admission spectators to view the hockey uninterrupted. Lighting Toilet Facilities The lighting must meet the FIH minimum requirement of 500 lux. Should evening / night matches be required, a current test certificate by a qualified electrician is to be provided to HA upon confirmation of the venue allocation to support this. All globes must be fully operational. Adequate toilet facilities for spectators, officials and players, and sufficient separate toilet facilities for spectators. Update June

2 A minimum of two team change rooms at the facility that are in immediate access to the playing pitch. Change rooms must be adequate in size to accommodate up to 25 adult team members. Change rooms Each change room must have a minimum of 1 toilet and 1 shower. Facilities must meet the required statutory health standards as governed by the state / territory in which the event is being conducted. Change rooms meeting the requirements must also be provided for each of the following: Umpires x 3 Technical Officials x 3 Ball persons x 8 Refer to Section 8.2 of the HA Operations Manual to determine requirements for provision. The first aid room is to be fully equipped with a treatment table and a fully stocked first aid kit with supplies that are relevant to the injuries sustained in hockey. First Aid Room The first aid room should also contain the following: - Stretcher - Spinal board - Neck brace - Crutches - Splints for fractures - Details of nearest medical emergency centre - Seating. There must be two team benches with immediate access to the Field of Play. Team Bench Drug Testing Room Team benches must: - Have a minimum of 10 seats available for interchange players and team officials. - Be under cover. - Have adequate space for player, team official and medical equipment to be stored. Doping Control and the related drug testing venue requirements are only applicable to FIH sanctioned events, AHL & HA U21 National Championships 1. A dedicated room and toilet facility suitable for the conduct of drug testing of athletes by ASDA (Australian Sports Drug Agency) as outlined in Attachment I. 1 As advised to HA by ASADA on 13 Feb 2014 Update June

3 There must be a technical official s bench with immediate access to the field of play and team benches. Technical Bench The tech official bench must: - Be located in line with the centre line. - Have an uninterrupted view of the Field of Play, and elevated where possible to ensure this - Have seating for a minimum of 5 people (TD, TO, 2 x Judge, Time Keeper, Announcer) - Have 4 x temporary seats located at the front or side for temporarily suspended players. - Be under cover - Have safe and functioning electrical outlets at the site for computers and printers. Area for the players to have ice baths after their games. Ice Baths It is preferred that ice baths are performed in the change rooms. If this is not possible due to permanent infrastructure design limitations, then venue must provide a screened off area that ensures a privacy for the athletes. Running water must be directly accessible to this area. Check with teams as to whether they are bringing their own ice bath or whether they require venue/host state to provide bins. Ice for icebaths is at the expense of the teams, but is to be co ordinated and managed by the host state/host venue/host association. It is a requirement that the venue has an electronic and fully functioning score board and clock. Match Scoreboard & Clock This feature must be able to: - Indicate home and away teams - Indicate the score - Indicate the time elapsed / remaining in each half. - Be of a substantial size so that all players and spectators in the immediate surround of the ground can clearly see all detail. It is a requirement that the venue has a siren or hooter that automatically sounds when time has elapsed. The siren must be able to be audible over the entire venue & ground. Siren or Hooter The venue is to provide (as part of the tech kit) 2 x backup manual sirens / hooters in case of the primary siren malfunctioning. Whistles are not to be used as the official sound device. Update June

4 A quality sound system capable of amplifying announcements, music, National Anthems and advertisements at the venue. Sound System The PA system should be able to handle multiple channels where an internal function can occur at the same time as external announcements & music can be played. A PA system [portable or permanent] with, preferably, a wireless microphone is to be accessible to tech bench personnel, and additionally is required for end of tournament presentation ceremonies. Media Facilities- AHL The following facilities are to be made available to the media: - Priority seating at the centre of pitch with a clear view of game. - Supplied with team lists and starting line ups of each match. - Access to the internet (wireless preferred), power, phone and fax facilities. - A designated media platform for recording of the games. - Refreshments as per tech officials & umpires. Requirement for AHL and Country Championships but optional for Under Age Championships (note there is an expectation from teams that some form of elevation be available to team coaching staff or videographers). A tower situated behind the goals at one end is to be installed solely for the teams use. Video Towers An example of this set up is: - 20m from goal line directly behind goal - 10m high - Covered and enclosed - Access to power supply (essential) - Seat 4-6 people - 2 x small tables and 2 x chairs Player Warm Up Area Refreshment outlet Security The host state is to ensure a large flat area is available for the teams to perform their running warm up on, should the main pitch not be available prior to their game. All teams should be provided a minimum of 20 minutes on the playing pitch prior to the team call off before each game. A suitable refreshment outlet for players, officials and spectators. Sufficient security measures in place for change rooms and crowd control. Update June

5 Water / Ice Running water and ice is to be available in close proximity to the team bench. Ice for team drinks and players injuries is to be provided free of charge. Technical Kit HA supply: -Formal FIH documentation Technical kit Host State supplies: -Stop watches x 3-2 stick rings (FIH) x 2 -Umpire whistles x 2 -Captain s Armbands 4 optional colours, or coloured ribbons + safety pins -Air Horn, [for siren backup] -Warning cards for umpires x 2 sets -Tub/container for carrying equipment -Interchange number boards [corflute]- optional, at discretion of TD (Nos 1-30) x 2 sets Corporate Entertainment AHL Sponsors are an essential part of the AHL. It is therefore compulsory that they are entertained in special areas set aside for sponsors, VIPs and their guests in an allocated area at the venue. HA will advise of sponsor and VIP hospitality requirements prior to the commencement of the championship. 6 Hockey Australia Indoor National Championships Minimum Venue requirements The following are special requirements pertaining to Indoor National Championships as an exception to/in addition to the relevant requirements as above. FEATURE Location of venue DETAILS YES NO Must be accessible by direct flights into a major city and within approximately 1 hour drive of a major airport Accommodation Accommodation must be within a reasonable drive of the facility ie under 30 minutes travel. Field size Open Age: as per FIH Indoor Rules Book or a minimum of 40 x 20 metres. U21s - a minimum of 40 x 20 metres. U15s - U18s may use full size pitch but at a minimum needs to be a min of 36 x 18 metres Changerooms: The minimum requirement for a tournament is two changing areas each accommodating people. These changing areas should include sufficient shower and toilet facilities either within the changing area or within the stadium. For large tournaments increased changing rooms may be required; Additional and separate toilets for spectators Ice Baths Specifications and arrangements as per above, if requested by participating states. Spectator Area Sufficient room for Spectators in excess of 200 people. Update June
