Natural Fibre Rope Sisal: Before the introduction of modern fi bres, sisal was the most coon generalpurpose rope. A member of the Agave plant family and relative of the cactus plant, the fi nest fi bre plants are harvested in East Africa. We stock natural sisal rope in 3-strand construction from 8 diameter to 40 diameter. Coon uses include: fender making, industrial and agricultural applications, rope slings and nets, landscaping and horticultural work, garden decking, tug o war etc. Grade 1 Manila: Still harvested and manufactured in the Philippines, Manila comes from the fi bres of the Abaca plant, a close relative to the banana plant. The fi bre carries a lot of natural oils and boasts a higher breaking strain than sisal. Along with sisal, Manila rope can be treated to prevent rot and mildew. We stock Grade 1 Manila from 8 diameter to 36. Cotton: Once the pride of the industrial north, cotton line was used in many industries from machine drive belts, to horse drawn narrowboats. We stock a three strand, yarn construction rope, perfect for decorative ropework, livestock halters etc. Also available in hanks, see page 15. Hemp: Not as widely used these days, although still popular in theatre rigging and indoor applications, for example school gym ropes. Can, and should be tarred for outdoor and marine use. We stock 3-strand hemp rope from 6 diameter to diameter. We also stock Tarred Marlin in 500gm balls. Coir: Manufactured from the fi bres of coconut husks, coir rope is extremely coarse and hard wearing. With its lightweight and natural waterproof qualities it makes ideal fenders and Kabelaring (wrap-around fendering). We stock 3-strand coir rope in a selection of sizes from diameter up to 96 diameter. 2 Man-made Fibre Rope Included in our man-made fi bre rope range, we stock two ropes with a classic natural appearance. Synthetic Hemp (0% Polypropylene) and Trad Matt Polyester (Posh or Matt Buff). Both of these ropes bear an amazing resemblance to natural fi bre rope; in fact our latest addition to the Trad Matt polyester range is POSH in a hemp colour created for the fi lm Pirates of the Caribbean. Polypropylene Fibre Ropes This is the most coon man-made fi bre for rope manufacture. Made from oil by-product granules it is generally available in all constructions for a great many applications. 0% water resistant it is rot proof and fl oats. Compared to natural fi bre ropes it has great strength, however its resistance to abrasion is poor and it can be badly affected by U.V. degradation. Synthetic Hemp (natural hemp colour) The soft feel and similar appearance to natural hemp makes this 3-strand polypropylene rope particularly popular with the traditional enthusiast. Made in the UK to our own specifi cation. Synthetic Black and Navy A multi-fi lament polypropylene 3-strand soft fl exible line. Staple Spun Polypropylene (white, hairy) Excellent general-purpose rope combines good abrasion resistance with fl exibility. Used extensively in marine applications. Victory Black Made in the UK exclusively for Tradline to our own specifi cation. Manufactured using top grade staple spun polypropylene yarn coloured to resemble traditional tar-steeped rope. Polypropylene Film (blue/white and black, coercial quality) Economic general-purpose rope, widely used in transport industry, lorry ropes, tarpaulin lashing, etc. Also available in hanks, see page 27. 3 Polyester Fibre Rope Polyester carries all of the best attributes a fi bre rope can offer. In general it has very low stretch properties, is resistant to U.V. and is extremely durable. The fi bres retain their fl exibility when wet and do not harden after prolonged exposure to the elements. The best polyester ropes are heat set when made and come in many constructions to cover a huge range of applications.) 3-Strand Standard Polyester (White, Navy, Black, Natural - hemp colour) High-density fi bre, strong and reliable, a great all round multi purpose rope.
