1 Technical Service Bulletin Date: April 25, 2014 Title: Pinnacle Lite Version 14 (5.7 & 7.5 HMI Screens) Affected: Pinnacle Lite 5.7 & 7.5 HMI Equipped Dryers Priority: Medium Overview This technical service bulletin will assist dealers with upgrading the software on Pinnacle Lite equipped dryers to the latest 2014 version. Since this is not a necessary upgrade for previous year dryers, we will no longer update returned PLC chips and HMI flash drives. Instead, to update a previous year dryer with version 14 software, the kit may be purchased. To order this kit, contact Parts Sales at Mathews Company, and be sure to specify the HMI that you wish to upgrade, which will determine the kit needed. Page 2 of 13

3 Added Features of Pinnacle Lite Version Listed here are the upgraded features of the Pinnacle Lite Version 14.00: A Service Guide has been added to the Settings chapter to assist dealers configuring the software. A User Guide has been added to the Settings Chapter to aid the end user establishing operational and alarm set points. The scaling for the discharge moisture has been re-scaled to display a clearer graph. Popup Screens alert the user when attempting to switch between discharge modes. Enhanced AccuDry Status popup screen advising user of suggested discharge speed and predicted discharge moisture. Confirmation of calibration popup for AccuDry equipped dryers. Additional AccuDry Service information for dealer service. Preliminary Steps The 2013 and earlier Pinnacle Lite production dryers were equipped with either a 5.7 or 7.5 HMI and PLC to control the discharge speed. The software for these installations can now be upgraded to provide the additional features and functionality. To upgrade to this latest software, these steps need to be followed: 1. Ensure that if the dryer is powered up that the screen is operational and that no damage is present. 2. Confirm that the printer, if equipped, is operational. Do this by running the discharge system for a short period of time. The default print interval is 5 minutes so it may be necessary to adjust this setting to a 1 minute interval to expedite testing. 3. Ensure that the RTD mid grain temperature signals are present by logging in, selecting the PLC I/O page and toggling across to the Analog input page. 4. Make sure all the components are properly installed. 5. If a moisture sensor is installed, check that the signals are reading realistic values. 6. Record any pertinent settings that the end user may have established such as Mid Grain Temperature band and Minimum and Maximum discharge speeds; this is important if the takeaway system is constrained to prevent over discharging. Loading the Upgraded Software The software has been provided on a special chip for the PLC and a USB jump or flash drive for the HMI. While you perform these steps, it is especially important that the power to the dryer is not interrupted while loading the software. Page 3 of 13

4 PLC SIEMENS CPU224XP Software Installation Procedure 1. The PLC should be installed and wired as per the electrical schematics. 2. The program for the PLC is loaded by using a small memory chip. 3. Make sure that the PLC is off. (2 Amp breaker) 4. You may need to remove the protective cover. 5. Insert the memory chip into the PLC in the slot just below the SF/DIAG, RUN & STOP LEDs. 6. Re-power the PLC; the run light on the PLC should illuminate and communication to the HMI will commence. 7. Make sure there are 3 LEDs illuminated on the Ethernet module (adjacent to the PLC) before removing power from the PLC. 8. Switch off the power to the PLC and remove the programming chip; re-insert the protective cover. 9. Re-power the PLC again; the run light on the PLC should illuminate and communication to the HMI will commence; the three LEDs on the Ethernet module should be illuminated indicating communications to the HMI. HMI Software Installation Procedure When the HMI software is re-loaded, it is necessary to configure the HMI with the required program and network settings; this program is supplied on a USB stick or thumb-drive. 1. Open the remote enclosure and insert the USB program device into the side of the HMI. Page 4 of 13

5 2. The HMI will either automatically load the application or prompt the user to load the application. A screen will indicate that there is a newer version of the software and asks the user if they want to install with a Yes or a No button. Press Yes to continue. 3. While the application and HMI is being configured, do NOT turn off the power. The process will take several minutes and will complete with a screen showing two buttons that ask the user to adjust the Network settings or Restart as well as a message prompting the user to remove the USB device. Remove the USB device and press the Restart button. Note: The network settings work in conjunction with the PLC and it is not recommended to change these settings without consulting Mathews Company. It will now be necessary to (re)-configure the settings for the dryer. When the program has been successfully installed, the HMI will probably display several alarm messages which will need to be acknowledged; for example: See the following page for instructions on how to re-enable features on your HMI screen. HMI Configuration Follow the steps below to help reconfigure your HMI settings. 1. Click on the settings button on the navigation bar. Page 5 of 13

6 2. Then you will be presented with the settings screen. Click on service login. 2. You will then be presented with the login area. Click on the white box. 3. You then will be presented with a keyboard. Enter the password mc500. Page 6 of 13

7 4. After entering the password, press enter. From there you will then press continue. You will then be presented with the setting screen where you will see multiple different features that you can now access. 5. Click on Service Guide. A sequence of screens is presented to permit the service technician to logically configure the dryer settings. See the section at the rear of this installation guide. 6. Alternatively, Click on factory settings. Page 7 of 13

8 7. From here you will click on the drop down list located at the top of the screen. Scroll down to find the model of the unit and then click on it. You will then click on the serial # box, enter the correct serial number for that machine. 8. Then Click Save Settings. 9. Then click return. From here you will click on features enable. 9 10. You will then be presented with the features enable screen. NOTE: Place a check mark by the features that correlate to the model and year that you are working on. 11. After placing a check mark by each individual feature that is available on the model that you are updating click Save Settings. 12. Then Click Return. NOTE: This next step applies only to models in which the Cal Temperature Controller communication feature is available. 1. Click on Temp Controllers. Page 9 of 13

10 2. Place a check mark next to each individual temp controller that applies to the model you are updating. After placing a check mark next to the controller, click Controller Setup. 3. Click on the drop down list located at the top of the screen. Scroll down to locate the model that you are updating. Then click Load Controller. Repeat these steps for each individual burner on the model that you are updating. After loading the controller(s) click return, and then click Save Settings. Page 10 of 13
