4 LAMBRI, THE WOOD PROFESSIONALS Lambri has been active in The Netherlands for more than 40 years. All work processes, from the selection of the veneer panels to varnishing, are carried out by our own workers. Lambri produces semi manufactured products for the yacht building and furniture manufacturing industries. Lambri also produces ready made panels for interior design as well as for utility building purposes. Wood is a durable material with a long tradition. The use of veneer is efficient and cost effective. Only the best tree trunks are used in the production of veneer, which is then sorted according to colour and structure and subsequently glued together to form a continuous pattern. Wood is a unique and living material - the growth patterns of each tree can be clearly seen in the veneer, including natural characteristics such as notches, outgrowth and colour variations. These qualities give wood veneer an accent and characterize it as a product of nature. Real wood is consequently uniquely differentiated and superior to artificial reproductions. Wood veneer offers architects the freedom to make unlimited choices when designing with a natural product. Collaboration between Lambri and the Architect ensures that the correct Crown cut veneer Quarter cut veneer choice of panel type, measurements and finish can easily be achieved for every design project. 5 Design with wood These maintenance-free and easily installed panels are acoustic and heat insulating, increasing the atmosphere and ambience of a building. Durability now and in the future Panels are veneered on both sides and have a low formaldehyde chipboard, MDF or multiplex core. Wood, which stems exclusively from reforestation areas, is used in this process. The production places no strain on the enviroment by way of its energy requirements since waste materials are recycled and used to generate energy. Modern production methods guarantee that wood is used economically: for example m 2 veneer can be produced from just one cubic meter of wood. Lambri panels are manufactured to be durable using indissolvable glues and varnishes. Panels are delivered in environmentally friendly packaging and they are ultimately recyclable as they can eventually be reused in the production of MDF or chipboard. Fire safety Modern buildings are fitted with complete fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers and special escape routes. Lowered ceilings filled with stone wool insulation combined with sprinkler systems increase this fire safety. Lambri acoustic panels consist of a basic core with fire resistant qualities. If necessary additional ingredients such as minerals and natural salts can be added during the manufacturing process to meet further safety requirements. The maintenance free UV Polyacrylic varnish is equally fire resistant; it will not melt but instead it insulates and contains the flame. Laboratory tests have shown that Lambri acoustic panels increase safety in buildings in the event of a fire. Certification is available upon request. 5

Lambri acoustic panels are ideal for use in auditoriums, conference centres, theatres, schools, restaurants, shops and offices: in short, wherever people come together for the purpose of communication. The acoustic principle Most of the sound energy (1) is able to pass through the panel openings and some is reflected (2). The acoustic membrane and insulation material absorb the majority of the sound energy (3). The remaining energy is absorbed by the building ceiling or wall (4). 6

7 The acoustic principle Vibrations cause an air mass to move and sound energy is thus created. The amount of air movement determines the frequency, which is represented in Hertz (Hz). There are three distinguishable levels: - Low pitched tones: Hz - Medium pitched tones: Hz - High pitched tones: Hz Sound strength is denoted in Decibels (db). The acoustic qualities of Lambri panels have been tested according to International Standards. Through numerous trials the sound insulation characteristics of the panels at various frequencies have been measured. 7

To be able to achieve this the resonance must be attuned by carefully balancing sound proofing and sound reflection. Wood veneer panels reflect sound and light. Many different sound absorption characteristics can be created by working the panels using computer assisted machinery. The desired resonance can be improved via the use of an acoustic membrane. When used together with stone wool insulation material the longitudinal sound proofing qualities can be further improved. Sound absorption When sound absorption is measured an Alfa value is attributed: the greater the Alfa value, the greater the absorption. The degree of sound absorption, denoted as an Alfa value ( ), is influenced by the distance between the panel and the building wall or ceiling. Lambri panels have been tested at varying distances, in combination with assorted insulation materials. The alfa value of each panel type is shown in the diagrams. The average absorption values are also provided for comparative purposes. 8

Upon the request of Lambri International BV, Peutz have conducted numerous tests on various Lambri Acoustic Panels according to the following international norms: - ISO 354:1985 Acoustics Measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room, accepted within all EU-countries as European Norm EN 20354: ISO 11654:1997 Acoustics Sound absorbers for use in buildings rating of sound absorption. - ASTM-C423-90a Acoustics Standard test method for sound absorption coefficients by the reverberation room method. The tests were carried out on veneered and varnished panels, complete with perforation or groove patterns. On the reverse of each panel was an acoustic membrane and 50 mm stone wool with a density of 46,3 kg/m 3. The measurements and calculations were carried out in the 1/3 octave band with a bandwidth of hertz. 11 LAWAPAN, EASY TO REMOVE Lowered ceilings offer the space for utilities such as ventilation channels, electricity conduction and computer cabling. The ceiling also serves to protect these installations and the building skeleton in the event of a fire. These utilities occasionally require maintenance and repairs. This means that access through the ceiling must be possible. LAWAPAN wood veneer panels create a lowered ceiling system which enriches the interior of the building. The core of the ceiling panels consists of MDF, chipboard or multiplex. LAWAPAN panels can be assembled using visible, concealed or half concealed hanging systems. Thanks to the particular attention to both the sizing of the panels as well as the even finish of the edges, individual panels can be easily removed at any place without causing damage. 11

The use of springs enables both the placement as well as the removal of panels from below. The ideal solution: because the total ceiling space can be fully utilized for facilities. The unique edge working hides in part the carrying construction and ensures a visible join of 8 mm between each panel. Due to this a contrasting effect can be created between the panels and the T-profiles. The System panel type is assembled using a carrying construction consisting of T-24 mm profiles. Various panel sizes can be combined in one ceiling system. The spring system also enables the panels to be used outdoors, where grill panels can be combined in the total ceiling system to reduce wind pressure. LAWAPAN SELECT carrying construction completely invisible The special edge finish of the panel type Select ensures that the lowered ceiling requires no visible weight bearing construction. Every ceiling panel is invisibly joined and is removed by pushing the panel upwards and passing it to below. In order to achieve this, a minimum hanging distance of only 150 mm is necessary. The panels have a slanted edge finish, bevelling, which creates a flat surface when mounted with a Z- or T- profile. 12

13 A special groove is made along the edges of the T-24 mm profiles, which enables the panels to be fitted together. LAWAPAN BASIC versatility in application The classic choice for Architects and ceiling specialists. The Basic panel type can be erected upon a carrying construction profile of T-15 mm or T-24 mm. The side finish with a "drop in" rabbet fixes the panels and produces a relief effect. The carrying construction remains visible and serves a decorative function. These panels are deliverable with a box grid profile which makes it possible to attach billboards, signboards and other information boards to the ceiling. Once assembled the carrying construction and the visible side of the panels form an even surface. LAWAPAN DESIGN possibilities without boundaries Following the Architect s design it is possible to veneer rectangular panels, to create bevelled edges on panels or to spray paint panels with a RAL- or NCScolour. Square, rectangle and trapeze shaped panels are also possible. The perforations are used to improve the acoustics as well as to enable the seamless assembly of wall and ceiling constructions. 13

14 LAWAPAN STANDARD & TREND A lowered ceiling with access to facilities such as pipes and electricity circuitry is not always necessary. In schools, open office spaces and existing buildings, the attachment of panels onto the bare ceiling provides extra ceiling height. Perforation or groove patterns on the panels are used to improve acoustics. Lawapan Standard and Trend panels can be mounted directly onto a wooden infrastructure using screw clips. A hanging distance of about 50 mm is sufficient for this purpose. Assembly using a turnclip onto a metal omega profile, or T-24 mm profiles, is also possible. To improve the fire resistant and sound absorption qualities of this ceiling type, the space between the ceiling panels and the building ceiling is insulated with stone wool. Veneered panels mounted onto a wall create a space with a warm ambience where the wood structure is clearly visible. The core of the wall panels consists of MDF, chipboard or multiplex. Thanks to exact sizing and with the help of metal profiles, hanging brackets and screwclips, the panels can be assembled quickly and may be removed as desired. Sound absorption is accomplished through the use of perforation or groove patterns on each panel to achieve an optimal acoustic effect. 14

15 LAWAPAN STANDARD Veneered panels selected by the Architect can be fitted with a melamine or veneer edge band. It is also possible to finish the panel with a solid edge strip or a plastic PVC edge band. After assembly a distance of 1, 5, 10 or 20 mm is visible between the panels. Screwclips and connecting strips in the same wood type, or contrasting colour, are used for assembly. LAWAPAN TREND These veneered panels are joined together using a MDF connecting strip and screw clip. After assembly only the bevelled edge is visible. In this way, it is possible to book-match the wooden structure of each panel and ensure continuation. It is also possible to mis-match the panels to provide a natural, variable wood art effect. Reverberation is reduced through the use of acoustic channels. Engineers calculate the desired alfa value for each space: the shape and measurements of the space as well as the types of materials to be used have an effect on this calculation. A total design profile is therefore advisable for every project. Soundtube panels are produced in many different finishes to fulfil these acoustic requirements. This panel type is ultimately flexible due to the choice in the number of channels which can be opened. In addition, the possibility of machining channels open on the reverse for extra sound absorption ensures that the calculated acoustic value can easily be accomplished. SOUNDTUBE acoustic achievements The desired sound absorption requirement is different for each space. For example, a concert hall has different requirements to a sports centre. Soundtube is available in many different panel types. The diagrams provide further information about the acoustic characteristics of each of the most used models. 16

They have a moisture content of % which is in accordance with a relative humidity of 65 % at 20 C. Due to the unique method in which the woodchips are glued together the panels may not be exposed to moisture. Soundtube panels can be mounted onto a wooden infrastructure, consisting of planed wooden slats. The panels are attached to this infrastructure using glue and staples where a join of at least 4 mm along the length between the panels is advised. Due to the handy lap over lap detail along the length of the panels, the panels appear to be invisibly joined together along the width. The mounting of these panels should be carried out by specialist builders. Before mounting, panels are selected based on colour and structure. Soundtube 31/2 Soundtube 24/1 17

18 SOUNDTUBE, ACOUSTICS THROUGH CHANNELS The core of Soundtube panels consists of channelled chipboard. Using special methods the woodchips are lightly glued together. Once the veneering process is complete the channels are machined open on one side only. The channel openings are only 4 mm wide when viewed from the visible side. In this way the colour and structure of the wood remain true and visible. Straight lines assist the Architect in creating a modern interior. Sound energy is retained in the airmass within the channels and the open spaces between the wood fibres enable sound absorption. Soundtube panels can be put to use anywhere where it is necessary for sound energy to be dampened and absorbed. If desired, channels can be machined open on the reverse of the panels in order to increase sound absorption. 18

19 TOPLINE, ACOUSTICS A LA CARTE TOPLINE lamella and cassettes Topline lamella are extremely suitable for use on walls, as door panels or as a suspended ceiling. Due to the innovative tongue and groove joints, it is possible to mount the panels of choice onto a wooden infrastructure using nailclips or a metal profile using turnclips. In the case of a tongue and groove ceiling, inspection hatches at fixed places permit access to the area above the ceiling. Wooden slats in various designs are available for edge finishing. In modern buildings the space above the ceiling often houses technical facilities. This means that the ceiling must be accessible at every point. Topline cassettes offer this possibility. Each cassette in the suspended ceiling system is individually removable. The Topline model, finished with a decorative groove pattern on the visible side and a groove/perforation pattern on the reverse side, is available in the13/3 and 28/4 designs and also as Lawapan panels in the following types: Basic, Select and System. 19

The view side of the panel is finished to the Architect s specifications: veneer, HPL laminate or a RAL / NCS colour. The necessary acoustic effect is achieved through a unique milling and groove pattern combined with the use of an acoustic membrane. In this way sound energy is almost completely absorbed, or if necessary, reflected. The design and acoustics for each project can be fully attuned by choosing from a wide variety of models. Prefabricated edge slats are available for edge finishing. These solid wood or MDF slats are produced per project from the same wood type or colour as the acoustic panels. 20

23 VENEER: ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY Wood is used efficiently in the production of veneer. Due to modern production methods around m 2 of veneer can be produced from 1 m 3 of wood. Lambri works only with veneer which originates from controlled reforestation areas. Veneer sheets with a width of cm are book-matched and glued to form panels. Upon request it is also possible to produce slip-matched or mis-matched sheets. Various patterns can be used together to form a unique design. The acoustic grooves of Ø8 mm with a center to center distance (ctc) of 24, 32 or 48 mm inspire special combinations. The panels can be placed perpendicularly to one another thereby creating a distinctive pattern. A whole new perception is created by using micro perforations. Perforations of only Ø1,5 mm, ctc 5 mm, enable the structure of the veneer to remain completely visible while at the same time providing effective sound absorption. Square perforations with a ctc distance of 32 mm are also innovative. 23
