13 Workshop Active inclusion of people with disabilities in the labour market: what role forthe private employer? Questions : How to create inclusive environments for employment for people with disabilities? And what role do private organisations as important employers play in ensuring the integration of people with disabilities in the workplace? As a private company committed to citizenship and solidarity, ENGIE pursues a number of initiatives to encourage diversity in its workforce with a strong focus on disability. As long-time partners of the Belgian Paralympic Committee since 2009, ENGIE has embarked on an athlete coaching programme whereby athletes with disabilities benefit from a professional integration programme. This allows athletes with disabilities to be introduced to the job market whilst still competing as well as afterwards. This programme can serve as one of the many examples of how important employers can promote and implement a working culture which is fully inclusive of people with disabilities. These values go beyond mere CSR strategies and can become a fundamental feature of an organisation with a strong disability policy across its workforce.
