1 Name: CREATE A BOARD GAME Assignment: You are part of team of board game manufacturers, and you have been asked to design a board game that will help students to learn about specific endocrine gland(s), the hormone(s) secreted by the gland(s), the actions of the hormone(s) and the disorders that occur when too much or too little of these hormone(s) are secreted. In a group of five, you will research, design and make a board game based on the teacher assigned gland(s): (1) Ovaries &Testes (2) Hypothalamus &Posterior Pituitary, (3) Pancreas & Adrenal medulla, (4) Anterior Pituitary, (5) Thyroid &Parathyroid, and (6) Adrenal Cortex. Game Requirements: For 2-5 players. Instructions must be clear and easy to follow. Must include a minimum of 25 trivia questions on the specific endocrine gland(s), the hormone(s) secreted by the gland(s), the actions of the hormone(s), and the disorders that occur when shortage or excess of the hormone(s) occurs. You must create/provide a board, game pieces and dice if necessary. Group Members: Assigned Gland(s):

2 As a group, begin by brainstorming the design of the board game. 1) Answer the following questions & record your answers below. You can use the sample design on page 3 or create your own design. a. OBJECT OF THE GAME: Decide how the game is won. b. EQUIPMENT: What is necessary to play the game? (Game board, die, cards, etc.) c. SET UP: How do you set up the board before play? How do you decide who takes the first turn? d. RULES OF PLAY: How does a player move around the board? Are there penalties for wrong answers? How many players can play?

3 Sample Board Game Design: 1. Design and create the board game. Use cardboard, tag board, construction paper, or legal sized file folders. Decorate the board with art that relates to the unit of study or book assigned. There should be a START and FINISH box connected by at least a 22-space path. Label one half of these spaces FACTS and one half DISORDERS, or other information that the group decides on. 2. Make up questions that relate to the unit of study or book. PRINT them neatly on 3 X 5 index cards cut in half. Divide your questions equally between FACT and DISORDERS (or other information that the group has decided on). Write the type of question (FACT, DISORDERS, OTHER) on the back of each question card. Number each set of cards. 3. On a sheet of lined paper, write the answers to the factual questions. Glue this paper to a piece of construction paper and label it ANSWERS. 4. Make up and write the rules for the game. 2) Decide on the roles of each group member and record the names below. Reader (reads directions, proof reads, etc.) Artist (draws or selects cut outs for the final version of game board) Scribe (writes questions, answers, and rules) Materials Manager (selects, gathers and returns materials) Monitor (makes sure everyone in the group contributes (stays on task), and turns in everyone s evaluation form) Other students in the group may assist in these roles, but the student assigned has the ultimate responsibility for completion. 3) Create your game using the suggested design or the design your team has chosen. 4) Make up and write the rules for the game. 5) Play the game through once. Adjust (correct) parts of your game as needed. 6) Exchange and play another group s game. 7) Complete an evaluation form for each game played.

4 PEER FEEDBACK SHEET Name: Boardgame Played: 1. Instructions were clear and easy to understand. 2. All parts of the game were present and worked well. (ex) Dice, cards, game pieces. 3. The game help you to review the concepts associated with the glands and hormones. 4. The board game is fun. 5. The game is challenging but not too difficult. 6. My favourite part of the game was 7. I would recommend that the group change this part of the game.. 8. Additional comments/suggestions:
