2 2 Indoors anti molld and anti condensation tratment Indoors anti molld and anti condensation tratment Implementation Year 2010 Work Duration 1 day No of Workers 1 Description of the intervention The intervention was made on the internal face of a private house perimeter wall where the mold was clearly visible; the mold often forms on the premises where, for normal use conditions, the values of relative humidity are too high. Description of the problem The problem to deal with was the formation of condensate with consequent mold emergence on the inside wall of a bathroom, at the point of contact between the infill brick, the vertical LCS pillar and the CLS beam of the concrete and mansonry flooring system. Moreover, it was located on the northern exposed wall of the structure. Either because of this point of severe thermal bridge, or due to the high relative humidity of the environment and the absence of thermal insulation, the constant presence of condensation and therefore of the mold on the wall could not be solved by traditional measures of repainting. The solution The C.W.C. Stop Condense anti-mold thermo-painting from Diasen was used for the intervention. C.W.C. is an acrylic resin based thermo-painting which, during production, is mixed with a special inert material providing a good heat recovery capacity: the layer of paint can absorb the heat of the indoors environment and extremely slowly release it in time, thus allowing an increase of the surface temperature of the support treated sufficiently to alter the dew point of environment

3 Indoors anti molld and anti condensation tratment 3 humidity. By eliminating the condensation, the cause of the mold is eliminated and therefore the mold itself. C.W.C is an extremely easy to use material: being a mono-competent product applicable by roller or brush, can even be used at a doit-yourself level. C.W.C is white and can be left exposed, in sight. Alternatively, if it should be applied on a wall painted on a color other than white, it could be colored using water-based tinted paints. Implementation First step: support cleaning and mold removal First of all, we proceeded with the removal of the existing mold on the wall using a simple solution of water and bleach. After mixing 9 parts of water with one part of bleach, we cleaned the entire mold affected surface with a sponge, in order to remove not only the mold but also the residual spores. Through this treatment it is possible to completely remove any dust or paint residues that could interfere the proper preparation and adhesion of the C.W.C.

Alternatively, if it should be applied on a wall painted on a color other than white, it could be colored using water-based tinted paints.

4 4 Indoors anti molld and anti condensation tratment Second step: C.W.C Stop Condense application After having checked the drying of the wall treated with water and bleach, we proceeded next to the application of the C.W.C. Stop Condense anti-condensate thermo-painting. Water was directly added in the bucket for the dilution of the paint and to facilitate its application. Generally, a 15% water addition is enough (about 0.75 liters). After mixing the material with a special drill mixer, we proceeded at the application of the first layer of the product directly on the wall, using a brush, in the amount of approximately kg/m 2. After 4 hours or when the first layer of material reached maturation, we applied again by brush a second layer of another kg/m 2. The total performed treatment is of 0.5 kg/m 2. In the case of severe thermal bridges presence and therefore particularly persistent molds, it is possible to apply a third layer of material.
