2 The agenda for the 13th EU Chile JPC was adopted The following were appointed rapporteurs: Political situation in the European Union and Chile: María Muñiz De Urquiza (S&D, ES) LAC-EU Strategic Partnership: Agustín Díaz de Mera García Consuegra (EPP, ES); EU-Chile Association Agreement: Assessment and prospects: Pablo Zalba Bodegain (EPP, ES); Association for Development and Innovation: progress made: António Fernando Correia de Campos (S&D, PT); Exchange of experience and information in Chile and the EU in the field of natural disasters, strengthening response capacity, and reconstruction: László Surján (EPP, HU); Programme for the 13th EU-Chile JPC meeting in Chile The programme for the EP delegation's visit to Chile from 29 November to 3 December was approved The following spoke: Agustín Díaz de Mera García Consuegra, António Fernando Correia de Campos 5 Exchange of views with HE Carlos Appelgren Balbontín, Chilean Ambassador to the European Union, and the European Commission, on the eighth meeting of the Association Committee to be held on 25 November in Chile: progress made and action planned for 2011 Before giving the floor to the Chilean Ambassador to the EU, Carlos Appelgren Balbontín, the Chair introduced the debate with a series of questions of special interest to the Delegation, in particular on the opening of negotiations on an air transport agreement between the EU and Chile, and the projects that have been completed and planned as part of the Association for Development and Innovation The Chilean Ambassador to the EU, Carlos Appelgren Balbontín, mentioned the key points that should be addressed at the eighth meeting of the EU-Chile Association Committee, in particular global, regional and bilateral political dialogue, stressing that both parties' interests coincided and that the Association Agreement needed to be strengthened and adapted to the new situation in both the EU and Chile He also noted the key trade issues, and the challenges that Chile had taken on as President of the LAC in its dialogue with the EU Lastly, he spoke about the second EU-Chile Civil Society Forum, which would be held soon, and the fourth EU-Chile Sectoral Dialogue on employment, highlighting Chile's commitment to improving labour standards, especially in the light of the recent rescue of the 33 miners trapped in the San José mine in northern Chile PE446637v /6 PV\840329doc
3 The European Commission concurred with the general points on the Association Committee's agenda, although this had not yet been finalised and agreed by both parties It also thanked Chile for supporting the EU at the UN, emphasising that this demonstrated the way in which both parties' interests and viewpoints coincided Finally, the Commission gave Chile its full support in organising the second EU-Chile Civil Society Forum 6 Any other business None 7 Date and place of next meeting The next ordinary meeting would be held on 10 January 2011 from 1700 to 1815 in Brussels The meeting closed at 1000 PV\840329doc 3/6 PE446637v01-00
